I get them to spread out, hoping that someone will catch this girls’ scent. I move closer to the packhouse, as close as I can without crossing the borders. I’m a bit surprised that I haven’t seen or heard any patrols yet. Did they send every warrior to fight our pack? If so, then Thomas is a fool and his pack is open to attack from anyone.

He may be in an alliance of some sort with Quinton and Brady, but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t take advantage of a weaker Alpha to take over his pack, especially Quinton. The man is a greedy piece of shit, not caring who dies in his quest for power. It’s another reason that I am loyal to Warren. He doesn’t send us out to fight for no reason. There’s always a reason if we go, but usually, we’re on the receiving end of battles. Now, it seems, that it was a strategic move by Quinton.

I close my eyes, listening to the sounds coming from the packhouse. I can hear snoring, fucking, and in a room at the end of a hallway. crying.

I’ve got her, I let my warriors know. ‘Has anyone seen any patrols?’ No, Beta’ the warriors says, heading back in my direction.

Gregor stands at attention, listening intently to the girl crying. That will be Laney’s sister. She’ll have felt the snap of the pack link, and She’ll think her sister is dead.

When my warriors arrive, we sniff the air one more time, before shifting into our human forms. I’m still amazed that there aren’t any patrols. But we still carefully make our way to the packhouse.

Here we find some patrols, but it looks like these poor bastards got the raw end of the deal, or maybe they were the least injured after our battle today. Either way, my men and I make quick work of them before heading inside.

As we get closer, I can feel Gregor getting more excited. The scent of mulling spices is getting stronger in the air. I love mulling spices. It reminds me of fall and winter days, of changing leaves and the first Snow of the season, all things that I love. 1

We quietly sneak into the packhouse, climbing the stairs that the omegas would use to bring food and laundry up to the ranked members rooms. I didn’t get the impression from Laney that she and her sister were ranked. But maybe that’s why she wants her sister out of this pack. With limited options, a pretty girl like Laney and her sister would be hot commodities to an Alpha, especially if he only cared about having heirs.

The thought makes Gregor snarl in my head and he pushes me to move faster. When we get to the Alpha floor, I can see that this girl has been put in the room beside Alpha Thomas. Well, that makes this easier. If she was in his room, it would be harder to get her out without alerting the pack. This way, it should be fairly simple. Guard the door. I’ll get her, I tell my warriors who turn with their backs to the door, ready to attack if someone approaches.

I quietly open the door and when I do, the scent of mulling spices overwhelms me, nearly bringing me to my knees.’Mate!” Gregor says excitedly in my head.

Just then the girls’ head snaps up, as I’m sure her wolf smelled us entering her room.

I put my finger to my lips, asking her to be quiet.”I understand you like donuts,” I say softly.

She nods.”I love them.”

“I have a couple back at my pack that you may be interested in.”A couple?” she asks, swiping her tears away “One in particular I say, thrilled that I can tell her that her sister isn’t dead.

She huffs a relieved sob before standing up from the floor where she was quietly crying.

“Will you come with me?” I ask, extending my hand.

She nods, placing her hand in mine. Warm, electric tingles light up my hand shooting up my arm.

She gasps and I know she feels it too.

“Let’s go,Mate I say to her. She smiles softly and nods her head.

We swiftly leave the packhouse, having to kill a couple more of Thomas’ men as we leave. It says a lot that Thomas can sleep through his pack members dying. What a miserable Alpha he is and if he was planning to force my mate into a mate bond, then I’ll be thrilled if Alpha Warren gives us the go ahead to take out Thomas and the rest of his pack.

But for now, my mate is safe and I’m taking her back to her sister and into the safety of our pack.

Laney I really didn’t have a choice but to believe this Alpha, Alpha Warren when he said he would rescue my sister. I know Thomas hates him. but he’s never been clear about his reasons for hating him. Of course, Thomas is a follower, not a leader. The only reason he’s still Alpha is because he’s killed anyone who has ever challenged him. Some of us, myself included, have wondered if he cheated to do it. Because I’ve never been able to prove it and no one else has either, he’s remained our Alpha.

Well, he’s no longer my Alpha. Alpha Warren is my Alpha now. I hate that my sister thinks that I’m dead. I truly hope that they get to her quickly. Thomas was on the verge of taking her as his chosen mate, against her will, right before we were told we were attacking Alpha Warren’s pack. Since Alpha Thomas was hell-bent on getting my sister to bed so he could mark and mate her, I know the order came from someone else. I’d guess it was Alpha Quinton. He’s no better than Alpha Thomas, he’s just smarter.

When the lady doctor walks back in, she has two warriors and a nurse with her. The warriors are for me, I’m sure. I’m not going to hurt this woman. I wouldn’t have anyway, she’s obviously not a warrior. I don’t kill others who can’t defend themselves. We’ve been ordered to do it in the past, but I make sure I stay on the battle grounds, fighting the ones who are strong enough to fight.

Even if I was that type of person, a person who kills those weaker than herself, I would never do anything to put my sister at risk. If they’re going to get her, to get her away from Thomas, I will do everything I can to make sure they have no reason to hold my actions against Noelle.

I watch the doctor as she walks in. Four Alphas want this woman. Since she’s not a warrior, it makes me wonder if she’s really that good of a doctor. These days, just having someone that can set a bone is valuable. But this woman exudes confidence the moment she walks into the room. She didn’t before, when we were talking about rescuing my sister. She let her mate, Alpha Warren, do the talking. She deferred to him, even became upset when she found out that other Alphas are after her. Definitely not a warrior, but now that she’s here to deal with my broken leg, it’s like she’s a different person.

She begins looking over my leg again. “Are you sure you don’t want to be knocked out?” she asks me.”Have they left to get my sister?”

“Yes. Our Beta, Charlie, took a few warriors to get her.”

I nod. “Then no,I’ll stay awake.””How is your wolf?” she asks me.

“She’s fine.” I say, frowning. Why is she interested in my wolf?”I’d like to speak with her. she says.

Haise, my wolf, pushes forward. “What do you need, doctor?”

She looks up at my wolf. “What’s your name?” she asks. I’ve never  0

known a doctor who cares to ask if my wolf is okay, much less what their name is.

“I’m Haise, doctor.”

“Haise, are you strong enough to heal bones?”

“I believe so. I’m not at full strength. My human is a great fighter and because of that, she gets a lot of injuries,” Haise says, making me smile. I’m surprised when the doctor smiles at her too.

“You’re proud of your human?””I am,” Haise says.

“So, Haise, what I want to do is hold your bones together while you heal them. You don’t have to heal them all the way, just enough for them to set. Can you do that?” she asks.

“You’re going to hold the bones while my wolf heals them?” I ask, shocked.

“Yes, if she’s strong enough,” she says to me.

I’d like to try, Haise says in our mind space. In the past, we’ve just had braces put on our legs and while Haise healed me, the bones were never set properly. It’s probably why they break during battles. I’ve noticed that more and more, my bones have been breaking.

especially in places where they’ve broken before.”Haise wants to try,” I tell her.

She turns back to my leg. “Tell me if you can feel any of this,” she says and begins poking me around the injury. I let her know where and when I can feel it and she has the nurse, Savannah, give me something that numbs my leg completely.

“How long will my leg be numb?” I ask, not wanting to be at a disadvantage. I was hoping that once Noelle is here, she and I could make a run for it. I’ll find a safe place for us and get a job until we can settle somewhere permanently.

“A few hours,” she says, looking back up at me. “I intend to heal you, correctly this time. I can tell that you’ve had multiple fractures to this bone. I’ll be very unhappy if I do all this work and you ruin it by trying to walk on this leg before I give you clearance to do so.”

“Believe me, you don’t want our Luna to be unhappy with you,” one of the warriors says. I glance at them, frowning. Both warriors are trying to hide their smiles.

“She threatened to follow our Beta into the Moon Goddess’ realm and drag his ass back,” the other warrior says. While they’re teasing their Luna, or future Luna, there’s a huge amount of admiration and respect, even from them. It makes me even more curious about this woman.

I look back at this doctor and see her roll her eyes.

“I’m never going to live that down, am I?” she mumbles. I watch both warriors duck their heads, trying to keep from laughing.”Okay, Haise, ready? she asks, getting my attention again.

“Ready, Luna,” Haise says. I notice that Haise had changed from calling her doctor to calling her Luna. Whether its from the warrior’s respect for her or from this woman speaking directly to her, Haise is gaining respect for her as well.
