Susan’s eyes widened in disbelief. “That can’t be true!”
Isabella sighed and explained the connection. “The Reed family backs Migge Skincare, and given Josie’s grudge against me, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was her doing.”
A heavy burden seemed to settle on Susan’s shoulders. “So… does wealth and power mean people can just ruin someone’s life like that?”
Isabella offered her friend a comforting smile. “Actually, I think being let go might be a blessing in disguise for you.”
Susan frowned. “Why would you say that?”
Isabella leaned forward, her eyes shining with a new idea. “Because I’m looking for someone with your skills. I know you’ve always wanted to be a formula developer, and now you have the chance. Come work for me.”
Susan blinked in surprise. “Really? You think I can do it?”
Isabella nodded with certainty. “Absolutely. I’ve seen your work, and it’s excellent. We need to develop a new product quickly, so the challenge will be tough—but I know you can handle it.”
Excitement replaced Susan’s uncertainty. “I’m up for it!”
Isabella smiled warmly. “Good. Let’s get started.”
Without delay, Isabella made the arrangements for Susan to join Natural Beauty. She also instructed her team to prepare some initial formulas for review.
That very afternoon, Isabella scheduled a meeting with a supplier of a rare raw material. The supplier was considering offering exclusive rights to one distributor in Gemond, and Isabella was eager to secure the deal.
Arriving early at the meeting venue, she was surprised to run into a familiar face.
“Isabella, you’re here too? Aiming for this deal?” Josie, dressed in a vibrant red outfit, expressed surprise at seeing Isabella in the same meeting room.
“Yes,” Isabella replied coolly, her attention focused on the documents before her, showing little interest in further conversation.
Josie scoffed. “You might as well quit now. Your struggling business doesn’t stand a chance. Who would want to supply materials to a company that’s failing?”
“Strength decides the outcome,” Isabella retorted, shutting her folder, her tone calm and unwavering.
Josie let out a mocking laugh, feeling confident. Perhaps another division of the Patton Group might have a shot, but Natural Beauty? What strength did they have to speak of?
Before Josie could continue, the door opened, and both women were surprised to see Andrew walk in.
“Mr. Klein,” Josie greeted enthusiastically, admiring Andrew in his polished suit. His charm was undeniable—no wonder her close friend Kristine had fallen for him. “I didn’t expect you to be the supplier.”
“Yes, I am,” Andrew responded, but his attention shifted to Isabella. “Let’s begin with your proposals and strategies.”
Josie smirked to herself. Migge Skincare was leagues ahead of Natural Beauty, and she was certain her presentation would blow Isabella’s out of the water.
Both women presented their cases, outlining strategies and projections. Just as Andrew was about to comment, his phone rang, and he excused himself to take the call.
Seizing the moment, Josie leaned toward Isabella, her tone dripping with arrogance. “Mr. Klein will surely pick me. You might want to leave now to save yourself the embarrassment.”
Isabella raised an eyebrow, her voice steady. “What makes you so sure?”
“Migge Skincare is light years ahead of Natural Beauty!” Josie declared proudly. “And don’t forget, Kristine is Mr. Klein’s fianc?e. I’m her close friend. Who do you think he’ll favor?”
Isabella’s expression remained neutral, but she couldn’t resist asking, “Mr. Klein’s fianc?e? Has he actually confirmed that?”
Caught off guard by the question, Josie faltered. “Well, Kristine is perfect. She’s accomplished, graceful, and the only one deserving of Mr. Klein. It’s only a matter of time.”
Isabella smiled faintly, choosing not to engage further. Josie’s confidence was rooted in nothing but wishful thinking.
Josie, annoyed by Isabella’s calm demeanor, pressed on. “Oh, and about your friend Susan… She used to work for Migge Skincare, right? Jobless now, I assume. If you back out of this deal, I might consider letting her return to her position.”
Isabella’s eyes darkened, her voice icy. “So, you admit you were behind that.”
Josie smirked, not bothering to hide her role in Susan’s dismissal. “Of course. You don’t understand the influence we hold. Even though you’re part of the Patton family now, you’re powerless. You won’t achieve anything, and you’ll bring nothing but misfortune to those around you.”
Isabella’s lips curled into a smile. “I actually owe you thanks. Without your interference, Susan wouldn’t have become such a valuable part of my team. Migge Skincare will regret losing her, but you’re too shortsighted to see that.”
Josie sneered. “Losing one sales assistant won’t make a difference. You’re delusional.”
Before Isabella could respond, Andrew returned, his face unreadable.
“Migge Skincare’s proposal is impressive,” Andrew began, causing Josie to smile smugly as she shot a triumphant look at Isabella.
“But,” Andrew continued, his gaze locking with Isabella’s, “Natural Beauty’s proposal surpasses it. I’ve decided to go with Natural Beauty.”
“What?” Josie shot up from her seat, disbelief and rage flooding her face. “That’s impossible! Natural Beauty is nearly bankrupt! You’ll regret this, Mr. Klein!”
Andrew’s eyes narrowed, his tone sharp. “Are you questioning my decision?”
Realizing the gravity of her outburst, Josie hesitated, her face flushing with embarrassment. She had just confronted Andrew, of all people.
Swallowing her frustration, she turned her ire back on Isabella. “Fine. You might have secured this deal, but don’t think this is over. At your product launch, I’ll be there to make sure you fail.”
Isabella met Josie’s glare with calm determination. “We’ll see about that.”
Josie stormed off, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. Isabella turned to Andrew, her expression calm. “You have excellent taste,” she commented.
Andrew paused briefly, then let out a deep chuckle, his voice warm and rich, like finely aged wine. “You certainly have confidence in your company,” he said, watching her intently.
“Absolutely,” Isabella replied with a smile. “I’ll make sure your raw materials are put to good use.”
Andrew reached out his hand. “It’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
Isabella clasped his hand, the rough texture of his fingers oddly comforting. “The pleasure is mine.”
“Are you heading back to your office? Let me give you a lift,” Andrew offered, his eyes kind yet unwavering.
“My car is in the parking lot,” Isabella replied.
“I’ll have my assistant take care of it,” Andrew said with a tone of finality, leaving little room for argument.
Isabella, moved by his assertiveness and kindness, accepted the offer. The ride in Andrew’s Lamborghini was smooth and comfortable, the silence between them easy and familiar.
Out of nowhere, Andrew reached into the backseat and produced two small cakes. “I had these prepared by my chef. Why don’t you try them?” he suggested, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Isabella’s eyes widened in delight. “These look amazing!” she exclaimed as she took one of the cakes, immediately captivated by its delicate presentation.
She quickly devoured the dessert, savoring each bite. “Your chef is incredible,” she said between mouthfuls, jealousy creeping into her voice at the thought of Andrew enjoying such luxuries daily.
Andrew watched her eat, amusement dancing in his eyes. “You’re quite the little foodie, aren’t you?” he teased, his smile widening.
Isabella, still licking her fingers, grinned sheepishly. “I can’t help it. These are too good.”
“If you like them, I’ll bring more next time,” Andrew said, leaning back comfortably in his seat. “Or better yet, you could come over and try some of my chef’s other dishes.”
The offer caught Isabella off guard, and she hesitated. It felt a little too intimate to visit Andrew’s home alone, especially with the recent attention surrounding them. She quickly calculated her options, thinking it would be better to go with Waylon or someone else present.
“Maybe,” she replied, her tone light.
They soon arrived at Natural Beauty, and as Isabella stepped out of the car, someone in the building noticed. Mina, standing by the window, saw Isabella exit Andrew’s luxury vehicle, and her mind quickly jumped to conclusions.
Mina had been harboring resentment since her bonus had been cut. Now, seeing Isabella with yet another powerful man, she felt a surge of anger. A cold smile crept across her face. This was something she could use.
When Isabella entered the hallway, she immediately noticed Mina’s smug expression.
“Something on your mind?” Isabella asked, her tone calm but firm.
“Miss Patton,” Mina started with a sarcastic drawl, “you sure have a way with men. First Mr. Patton, now another. It must be nice being young and charming, right?”
Isabella’s patience wore thin. “If you have something to say, say it.”
