Jada looked at him, her eyes red and filled with evident fear. She immediately hugged him and cried out loud. She pressed her soft body against his chest, making him feel very uncomfortable. “I’ll take you out of here first,” he said awkwardly.
Norton took Jada to the car and was about to call the police when she hugged him again. “Norton, I’m so scared,” she cried out.
“It’s okay. I’ll make those two pay for what they did to you,” Norton said comfortingly.
But Jada still couldn’t stop crying. She hugged Norton so tightly he almost couldn’t breathe. She raised her head, exposing her plump and soft body under her torn neckline. When Norton noticed this, he immediately took off his T-shirt and put it on her.
“Thank you, Norton. If you hadn’t come in time, I couldn’t imagine what could have happened to me.”
“What were you doing here at this time of night?”
When Jada opened her mouth to speak, her eyes turned red again. At this moment, she looked particularly delicate and lovely. If others saw her like this, they would definitely want to hold her tightly and coax her. She looked at Norton, her big, watery eyes filled with caution and sadness. “I was too sad, so I came here alone to take a walk. I didn’t expect to encounter such a thing.”
“Next time you feel sad, don’t go out alone. Besides, let’s forget what happened during dinner. Maxine has put it behind herself, too,” Norton said.
“I know she would because she is such a generous woman. But what makes me sad…” Tears streamed down Jada’s face, making her look pitiful. “I didn’t understand my own heart until now.”
Norton furrowed his brow in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“When I found out that Andrew had a girlfriend, I didn’t feel sad. I was only disappointed because I could no longer grant my mother’s wish. But in your case, when I learned you had a girlfriend, I felt my heart was torn into pieces. It hurts so much until now.”
Jada clutched her chest, looking at Norton and asking, “Can you tell me why?”
Even if Norton was a fool, he would understand what Jada meant at that moment. Suddenly, his mind was a mess. He had no idea she had fallen in love with him. He was at a loss, not knowing how to answer her question.
Despite the struggle in his heart, he should be very happy, right? After all, she was perfect—every man coveted her. However, since he already had a girlfriend, he felt conflicted. Jada waited for Norton to respond quietly.
“Jada, we are just friends. Maybe you’re just not used to the situation.” Finally, Norton found his voice after a long time.
Jada looked at him affectionately and said softly, “Norton, I expected you to say something like that. But I am very sure that I love you. If you don’t love me, I won’t force you. Instead, I will silently wish you happiness. If Maxine makes you unhappy one day, you can come to me.”
After saying this, she forced a smile.
Norton had a complicated expression. Jada’s confession was completely beyond his expectations. “But Maxine…”
Jada put her finger on Norton’s lips to stop him from talking. Then she said, “You don’t have to refuse me now. I won’t ask you for anything. Can you just drive me home?”
Norton fell silent for a moment. Then he nodded. “Okay.”
Jada headed back to the Riggs family’s house. Everyone was already asleep at this hour, and Jada was still scared, so she asked Norton to send her to her room.
“Have a good night. I’m leaving now,” Norton said and turned around to leave. However, Jada suddenly grabbed his hand and said, “Norton, I have one last wish.”
Norton looked at her in confusion. Before he could react, Jada stood on her tiptoes and moved her face closer to his.
She wanted to kiss him on the lips, but she failed because he suddenly realized what she was up to and pushed her away. “Jada, what are you doing?” Norton asked with a frown, shocked and not expecting Jada to do such a thing.
Jada looked at Norton, aggrieved. “This is my last wish. Can you fulfill it? After this, I won’t bother you anymore.” Jada was bold enough to say those words because she was sure Norton would not refuse her. She knew that for men, an affair was always thrilling and appealing.
Jada was beautiful and sexy, and Norton didn’t even need to be responsible for her. How could he refuse her? So, she patiently waited for his kiss.
“Jada, I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person.” Jada subconsciously froze when she heard the cold and harsh voice in front of her. She slowly opened her eyes, and Norton’s expression was filled with disgust and disappointment.
Jada was stunned and didn’t know how to react. As the most coveted young lady in Ansport, she had always received admiration from other people since she was a child. Even Norton had always been gentle and doting toward her. This was her first time seeing him look at her with disgust.
Jada didn’t know what had gone wrong; all she felt now was a sharp pain in her heart. “Norton, please don’t say this to me. I… I love you so much. I don’t want you to hate me.” Tears streamed down Jada’s face. “I’m sorry. I feel like I’m about to go crazy because of my love for you. I’m sorry…”
Norton didn’t say anything more. He just turned around and left.
Suddenly, Jada slumped to the floor.
Ever since her return from abroad, Jada had the unsettling feeling that nothing was within her grasp anymore.
“Jada?” Mara said as she entered her room. “I saw Norton just left. Are you alright?”
The look on Jada’s face stunned Mara. She rushed over, lifting Jada from the floor and guiding her to the sofa. “What happened?”
Jada felt numb, a bitter hatred boiling within her as she balled her fists tightly. She remained silent, but Mara could already guess the situation.
“Did Norton… argue with you?” Mara questioned, confusion evident. “Why would you two fight?”
In that moment, Jada dropped her pretense, her expression dark and malevolent. “He’s got a girlfriend now,” she stated icily.
Mara blinked in surprise. “He’s dating someone?”
“Yes, an actress,” Jada answered before an idea struck her. “Mom, I need your help. Aren’t you close with Mrs. Santos?”
“Yes, Amanda has approached me several times, hoping you’d consider dating Norton,” Mara said, her tone laced with displeasure. “I told her you only see him as a brother. How could Norton lower himself to date an actress now? If Amanda finds out, she’ll be furious. I’ll visit her and straighten this out.”
Jada felt a slight lift in her sour mood. Even if she wasn’t with Norton, Amanda would definitely make life harder for Maxine.
The Santos family had always been beneath the Kleins, but Amanda was ambitious. She wanted Norton to marry someone appropriate to secure his status and elevate the Santos family’s position. Amanda would never settle for an actress as her daughter-in-law. Maxine would suffer.
Meanwhile, after he left Jada’s home, Norton’s thoughts were jumbled. He never realized Jada actually loved him or that she’d say such things. To him, she had always seemed pure and kind. Could it really be that she acted this way out of love, like she claimed?
Despite everything, Jada’s image in Norton’s mind had shattered. Norton felt even more for Maxine.
The moment he got home, he headed straight for Maxine’s room.
Norton had designed this room just for Maxine—a luxurious pink princess suite lavishly adorned with high-end brands, designer bags, and premium skincare products.
Maxine was at her vanity, carefully going through her skincare routine when Norton wrapped his arms around her from behind. “You’re here,” she said, squirming a little. “Let go; I’m trying to apply my cream!”
Noticing the natural beauty products she was using, Norton asked, “Why aren’t you using the expensive skincare products I got for you?”
“Natural Beauty works for me,” she replied simply.
“Alright, Maxine, I’ve missed you so much.” Norton rested his head on her shoulder, breathing in her sweet scent, feeling instantly at ease. He leaned in and gently grazed her neck with his lips.
“Ah!” Maxine yelped, pushing him away. “That tickles! Go to bed. I’m going to sleep too.”
“But I want to be with you just a little longer,” Norton pleaded softly, gazing at her like a hopeful puppy.
Maxine wasn’t swayed. “If I stay up late, my skin will suffer, and I still have filming to do.”
“Yeah, sure. Filming is clearly the priority to you.” Reluctantly, Norton backed off and left.
He couldn’t sleep until late, but the next morning, he woke up early to make Maxine breakfast. By eight o’clock, she hadn’t come out yet, which was odd, as she usually woke up at seven.
Norton decided to check on her and opened the door—only to find Maxine wasn’t in her room. When had she left?
He quickly dialed her number.
“The number you have dialed is currently busy.” He tried calling multiple times but got the same response. He sent her a message but found she had blocked his number.
Norton was losing his mind. What in the world had happened to Maxine?
As he sat there, a message came through. It was from Maxine—a photo of him and Jada standing close, appearing as if they were about to kiss.
Instinctively, Norton wanted to explain himself, but then he read Maxine’s message: “Your relationship with Jada is too complicated. I’m focused on my career. Maybe the picture doesn’t tell the whole story, but I can’t deal with the mess. Let’s end this here. Don’t reach out, and I won’t see you again.”
Norton’s eyes went blank as he slumped back against the wall. It felt like there was a gaping hole in his chest, and the cold air rushed right through it.
Desperate, he sent her message after message.
“Maxine, please don’t leave me. I swear there’s nothing going on between me and Jada. I’ll cut all ties with her, and she’ll never bother us again.”
“Maxine, I’m begging you. Please don’t do this.”
