Isabella felt a surge of warmth in her heart. Her efforts were indeed paying off.

“Since you have such faith in me, I won’t disappoint you. I’m planning to produce my own movie. You’ll be the lead actress,” Isabella said.

Maxine was taken aback. “Miss Patton, really?”

“It has the same theme as the project that dismissed you. Get ready for it.”

Maxine was moved by her words. “By the way, Miss Patton, if Global Entertainment is interested in signing me, they’re likely targeting others as well.”

“I understand.”

Maxine nodded and excused herself from the meeting when her phone rang.

“Honey, I’m coming to see you.”

“Mmone replied. “I can’t make it right now.”

“Why can’t you? Aren’t you done filming with that crew?” The voice on the other end sounded hurt. “I’m trying to find you another role. I heard that Global Entertainment is after you. Is that true?”

“Yes, but Patton has already provided me with a new role, so I need to start preparing for that,” Maxine guided.

“Alright then. When can I see you?”

“I’ll call you when I have free time.” Maxine ended the call.

That afternoon, Isabella received several resignation letters. Just before closing time, a group barged into her office and knelt before her.

“What is this about?” Isabella asked coldly.

They exchanged glances, and finally, one person spoke up, “We know we’re in the wrong, but we have no other choices. If this continues, I won’t be able to afford my mortgage. Miss Patton, I need to resign, please.”

“Just follow the standard procedures,” Isabella said, not looking up from her documents.

Everyone’s expression turned ashen. They were aware of the need to adhere to the protocol, yet that meant facing hefty liquidated damages! They were reluctant to pay such significant fines.

“Miss Patton, please, just let us go!” the group pleaded.

Isabella’s assistant walked in just as this scene unfolded, and she immediately became infuriated. “Shame on all of you! The company has invested heavily in your training. Now you want to leave without paying the damages?”

“I’m sorry, Miss Patton. We have no other options,” everyone wept, looking utterly desolate. To outsiders, it might seem as if they had been mistreated by Isabella. The assistant’s anger made her face flush red. “Our penalty fees are much more reasonable compared to other companies. Yet, you refuse to pay and create such a scene here. It’s truly shameful!”

There was silence. They knew it was true.

Still, everyone must look out for themselves. With the threat posed by Global Entertainment, they, as lesser-known talents, had virtually nothing left. Staying would mean facing an inevitable decline.

“I understand that Global Entertainment has put you in a tough spot. But I promise things will improve within a month. If you wish to stay, you’re welcome to. If not, you only need to pay half the usual penalty to leave,” Isabella said, looking at them earnestly.

Only half the penalty? This proposition touched everyone. Ultimately, most decided to pay and leave.

The assistant clenched her teeth and said, “Miss Patton, you’re far too kind to them, yet they show no gratitude at all!”

“Don’t worry about it. They’ve been with us for a long time and only left now because we are in trouble.”

“I heard Global Entertainment is snatching up artists. They could be joining them.” The assistant’s face tightened with concern.

“If that’s where they want to end up, let them.” Isabella gave a casual shrug.

These people were barely known in the industry, but Edge Entertainment still tried to push them forward. Did they really think moving to Global Entertainment would make them stars overnight? That wasn’t going to happen. Global Entertainment had even more celebrities, and the battle for attention was much tougher. If they switched over, they’d likely be pushed to the sidelines for quite a while.

Isabella’s top priority now was getting the sci-fi script finished. She’d come up with the idea a long time ago, but things kept getting in the way. This moment felt like the perfect chance.

For a whole week, Isabella barely stepped outside, staying in the office and writing nonstop. Her connection with the outside world slowly faded as she threw herself into the project.

On the seventh day, after typing the last word of her script, Isabella stood up and suddenly felt lightheaded. Before she knew it, she was enveloped in a warm embrace.

As she slipped into unconsciousness, she caught a glimpse of a familiar, handsome face.

When she awoke, a white ceiling greeted her, and she heard a deep, raspy voice nearby. “You’re awake.” Turning her head, she saw Andrew. His serious expression made her feel a wave of guilt.

“Yeah,” Isabella replied softly.

Andrew carefully placed a bowl of soup on the bedside table and began feeding her one spoonful at a time, his movements tender and deliberate. As Isabella savored each spoon, she studied Andrew’s face with intent. His quiet demeanor gave him a serious, almost intimidating look.

A flicker of concern passed through Isabella.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, her voice tentative.

Andrew had been furious, but when he saw Isabella’s cautious question, a bitter laugh escaped him, his voice laced with frost. “You told me not to worry about you, and now you’ve worked yourself to exhaustion? Do you understand how easily you could have died from this?”

Isabella, feeling guilty, gave a sheepish smile and fell silent, unable to meet his gaze.

“And you’re still smiling?” Andrew’s frustration bubbled up, leaving him feeling trapped with nowhere to direct his anger.

Isabella quickly replied, “I realize my mistake. I’m sorry. I promise it won’t happen again.”

“For the next few days, I’m staying with you. You’re going to rest at home,” Andrew said firmly, his gaze sharp. His usual calm demeanor was replaced by a stern one, showing just how upset he was.

Isabella, feeling the weight of his displeasure, simply nodded in agreement, not daring to say another word.

After transferring her responsibilities to the vice president, Isabella settled at home to rest, with Andrew staying close by.

“What would you like to eat? I’ll cook it for you,” Andrew said, his tone gentle.

Isabella pondered for a moment. “It seems like it’s been ages since I had fish. How about some grilled fish?”

“Got it.” Andrew set aside his tasks and headed to the kitchen, ready to prepare her meal.

Isabella’s face lit up with a warm smile, a sense of contentment washing over her as she thought about how blissful life felt. But the smile vanished in an instant when a breaking news alert flashed across Andrew’s computer screen. Her eyes widened, and without hesitation, she clicked on it.

“Explosion on Colto Road! The victim’s identity is unknown!”

The report showed cars smashed together, erupting into a massive fireball. This kind of alarming news seemed to surface with unsettling frequency.

Isabella’s eyes were fixed on the news images, her gaze sharp and focused. One of the cars—a sleek silver sports car—seemed hauntingly familiar. Could it be Howard’s? Unable to make out the license plate, she quickly dialed Howard’s number.

The phone rang for what felt like an eternity before someone finally picked up.

As Isabella opened her mouth to speak, a soft, heart-wrenching sob came through the line.

The fragile cries were as haunting as the distant wail of an injured animal in the night.

Isabella’s heart tightened in her chest. Howard had always been cheerful and optimistic, his smile a constant even through hard times. But he was crying?

“What’s wrong, Howard?” Her voice softened, laced with worry.

“Milly… Something happened to her,” Howard’s voice quivered, each word punctuated by his sobs.

“What happened? Was Milly driving your car?” Isabella asked urgently.

“Yes, I’ve been feeling this strange unease, like someone’s been trailing me,” Howard said, his voice cracking with distress. “Milly had an accident while driving my car today.” His tears flowed freely, as if his entire world had been torn apart.

Isabella quickly grasped the situation. It seemed that Milly had been found by her organization.

Howard continued, his voice trembling, “Milly must have noticed someone following me. She probably took the risk to lure them away.”

Isabella stared at the phone, unsure of what to say. How could she tell Howard that he was wrong?

The sound of his stifled sobs on the other end pierced through her. It was heartbreaking. She took a deep breath and said, “Where are you? I’ll come to you.”
