Chapter 262 – Returning to Her Not-So-Poor Family

“Even if you don’t acknowledge me as your mother, what about Demetrius? He’s the father you’ve called for eighteen years, Grace’s biological son. If Grace saw you put her biological son in prison and destroy everything about the Melton family,”

“I forgot to tell you.” Mirabella leaned against the wall, looking cold and fierce. “I’ve already verified on my way to the engagement party that Grandma did have a son that year, but he died shortly after birth. To spare her the sorrow, Grandpa adopted an abandoned baby boy.”

“What are you saying?” Olga was in disbelief.

“So until the last moment of Grandma’s life, she didn’t know that Demetrius wasn’t her biological son. While Grandpa was alive, even though he knew the truth, he raised Demetrius as his own.”

Olga shook her head, her face as pale as a ghost. “No, that can’t be.”

“Believe it or not, that’s on you.” Mirabella had already anticipated her reaction and said nonchalantly, “By the way, before I came here, I had a DNA test done. Demetrius and Grandma aren’t blood–related.”

Olga turned even paler, as if the last glimmer of hope had vanished. She whispered, “No, that’s not true.”

If Demetrius and Grace weren’t blood related, then Demetrius had zero ties with the Melton family. They can’t inherit anything from the Melton family, and, on the contrary, Mirabella won’t let them off the hook because of past relationships.

No wonder Mirabella was so ruthless at the engagement party, humiliating them. She even slapped her and kicked her.

So, Mirabella knew about this all along.

Before, Mirabella helped them because Demetrius was Grace’s only son!

But now

“You’re lying! You’re lying! You’re making this up!” Olga shouted, “You just want to see me make a fool of myself, so you made up this excuse!”

“You’re pathetic.” Mirabella gave her a cold look, then casually turned to her henchmen and said, “You two, have fun torturing her.”

“Mirabella, Mirabella!” As Olga saw Mirabella’s retreating figure, she rushed forward, begging on her knees, “Please spare my life. I didn’t mean to kill your Grandma!” Mirabella tumed around, seeing her crying her eyes out and trembling with fear. She said indifferently, “You’re begging me not because you realize your mistakes, but because you know your last hope is gone.”

Without the protection of blood ties, it would be easy for Mirabella to deal with them.

“Mirabella, we’ve been together for 18 years, and even though wasn’t much in your life, I still considered you my daughter! It was all because of the priest’s nonsense. The day you were born, there was a fire and an explosion in the hospital. A few days later, Demetrius and I went to the church to pray and met a priest. He said a daughter would bring misfortune to our life, making our future hard. We thought about the fire on your birth day, and on the way back from the church, I fell down some steps. So, we distanced ourselves from you and handed you over to Grace. I was too trusting in what the priest said.”

So, that was it.

Mirabella laughed coldly, saying, “The priest was pretty accurate.”

Olga was stunned, not understanding what Mirabella meant.

“Yolanda is indeed the curse in your life, not me. She’s the one who ruined you.” With that, Mirabella turned and walked away.

Olga collapsed on the ground, only realizing after much thought that since they brought Yolanda home, the Melton family had indeed faced many difficulties. Could it be that the misfortune the priest spoke of wasn’t about Mirabella but about Yolanda?

With that thought, Olga was filled with regret. She hadn’t expected that believing in the priest’s words would put her in such a predicament.

If she had been a bit nicer to Mirabella over the past 18 years, perhaps her fate would be different.

After Mirabella left, her henchmen took turns torturing Olga, dunking her head underwater until she was about to suffocate, then letting her come up for air, and repeating it.

They also physically abused her, tormenting her for a while.

It wasn’t until Yolanda showed up that Mirabella’s goons finally stopped what they were doing and bounced off without a care.

After getting the green light from the cops, Yolanda had just stepped inside the room when she saw her mom being tortured to the point of passing out.

She was scared out of her wits, rushing over to her mom and asking, “Mom, what happened? Was it those two guys?”

One of those guys Yolanda had seen before. He was one of Mirabella’s!

Who would have thought Mirabella would be so bold as to pull off something like this in a police station?

Olga was soaked to the skin, crying her heart out, “It’s over. Yoli, we’re done for.”

“Mom, don’t be scared. We still have Dad. He’ll figure something out.”

Olga shook her head in despair. She knew they were caught in Mirabella’s web this time.

“Mom, about the land deal, I think Mirabella did it.” Yolanda voiced her suspicion. “The shares you sold recently have all ended up in her hands! Plus, with those shares and Grandma’s will, she’s become the head honcho of the company! She even changed the company’s name! It’s called the Moonlight Group now!”

Olga nearly passed out.

“And we got kicked out of Grandma’s villa.” Yolanda filled Olga in on what had happened at the villa gate. “I rented a small apartment- with the money I got from selling my jewelry. We can probably only stay for a short while. The creditors are hounding me day and night.”

“Yoli, it’s all our fault.” Olga hugged Yolanda, crying again. They thought bringing her back would provide her with a better life. In the end, they couldn’t even afford her college tuition.

“Mom, it’s not your fault. It’s all Mirabella’s doing!” Yolanda was seething with anger toward Mirabella. She wanted nothing more than to smash her to bits.

“Yoli, listen to me.” Olga suddenly seemed to remember something. Wiping away her tears, she urgently said, “From now on, don’t mess with Mirabella.”

“Why?” Yolanda asked, puzzled.

–“Because your dad is not Grace’s biological son, I was the one who caused Grace’s death. Mirabella won’t let me off that easily. She’ll torment me, your dad, and even go after you. Remember, don’t mess with her! Otherwise, you’ll end up dead!”

Yolanda was dumbstruck. How could this be?

Her identity as the proud daughter of the Melton family was a sham.

“Remember what I said, alright?” Olga reiterated, still worried, “Your father has nothing to do with Grace. Mirabella started treating us like this after she found out. Remember what I said? Promise me!”

“I got it.” Yolanda bit her lip in defiance.

“Where’s the lawyer? Why didn’t he come with you?” Olga suddenly remembered.

“Mom, I think Mirabella spread some rumors. No one wants to help us now.”

On their way home, Romeo noticed Mirabella had fallen asleep, her face still wet from tears, probably from dreaming about her Grandma.

When their RV pulled up to the gate of Reflections Villa, Romeo didn’t wake her, letting her sleep on.

If she could see her Grandma in her dreams, that would comfort her.

Considering she had been through surgery from 2 a.m. until 1 p.m., attended an engagement party, worked at the company, and dealt with everything afterward, she must be exhausted.

Romeo gently cradled her in his arms, letting her sleep peacefully.

The chef watched as Mr. McMillan cradled Ms. Bella to sleep in his arms and wondered if his arms were getting tired.

But seeing the contentment and indulgence on Mr. McMillan’s face, he knew that he was thoroughly enjoying the moment.

Romeo signaled to the chef to fetch a blanket. The chef tiptoed away and returned with it. Romeo gently draped it over Mirabella.
