Jada pursed her lips. She lowered her head, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Wesley’s heart ached even more. “Please don’t be sad. Even if they all turn their backs on you, I will always be on your side.”
“Wesley, thank you. Everyone thinks I’m a terrible person. No one wants to associate with me anymore.”
“What are you talking about? Jada, you are a good person. I won’t leave you. I will help you no matter what. So, don’t be sad anymore, okay? Come on, let’s go racing. When you race, you can forget all the pain.”
One of the reasons Wesley liked Jada very much was she was very good at racing.
She was a female racer. Jada thought for a while and then smiled.
She nodded, forcing a smile.
Norton was very happy to finally see his girlfriend. “When can you finish filming? You are too busy. I don’t like seeing you like this. I will arrange a tiring project for you later.”
As he spoke, he looked at his girlfriend with concern.
Was this really Norton? How could a man who used to be a playboy completely turn into a sweet and caring man?
The woman replied indifferently, “I don’t like you doing this to me. Didn’t I already tell you?”
Norton immediately fell silent, looking hurt. He only wanted to see her more often. How could she not appreciate it? But he soon forgot the unhappiness in his heart and began telling his girlfriend about recent events, including Jada’s situation. “Do you think I should intercede with Andrew on Jada’s behalf?”
“No, I don’t want you to intervene,” said his girlfriend immediately. “What do you personally think? Did Jada do it?” She looked at Norton intently, waiting for his response. Norton knew she was testing him. His girlfriend cared very much about a person’s intelligence. If he gave her a foolish answer, she would kick him to the curb.
“It is highly possible that Jada did it,” Norton replied truthfully. He didn’t want to admit it, but he could not deny that children of wealthy families often fought over family properties. This was very normal. In fact, some even resorted to framing their family members.
What he found hard to accept was that the trap Jada had set had gotten Isabella involved. Didn’t she have a good relationship with Isabella?
Norton suddenly realized he could no longer understand Jada. His girlfriend said indifferently, “You men are actually brilliant. It’s just that even if you already know the truth, you habitually deceive yourself. If this is the case, you will only become Jada’s pawn.”
His girlfriend’s straightforward remarks stunned Norton for a moment. Then he hugged her and said, “That’s why I need your advice. By the way, honey, can we really not publicly announce our relationship? I promise there will be no negative rumors after the official announcement.” Norton’s girlfriend shot him a glance, and he immediately fell silent.
What was going on with him? With others, he was a tyrant. But in front of his girlfriend, he was like a lamb. He didn’t dare say anything that might make her unhappy. It was strange, but he didn’t hate what he was doing. For some reason, he liked it so much.
Tonight, Norton had booked the entire restaurant for their dinner, and no one else was allowed to enter. Since only the two of them were inside the restaurant, he said, “Honey, why don’t you take off your hat and sunglasses? I have made sure this place is clear. Rest assured, there are no paparazzi here.” He felt frustrated looking at her entirely hidden face.
“I’m just being cautious.”
Norton was rendered speechless. Since his girlfriend insisted on hiding her identity, what else could he do? He could only respect her decision.
As soon as Norton’s girlfriend finished her words, she suddenly felt a flash of light next to her. “There is a paparazzo!”
Norton’s expression became solemn at once. He waved his hand, and the bodyguards rushed toward the person hiding in the corner.
“Damn! I didn’t expect a paparazzo to be so crazy that he pretended to be a sewer here. Don’t worry, I’ll have people investigate his identity. I’ll make sure this news never comes out,” Norton said reassuringly.
“It’s okay. I’m not in the mood to eat anymore. Let’s go back.”
Then she put on her mask again.
Norton could only agree, cursing the paparazzo in his heart. How dare he ruin this dinner he had prepared!
Meanwhile, Jada and Wesley had an exciting race. They were both in a good mood now. Wesley couldn’t help looking at Jada with fascination and envy. “Jada, you are really awesome! You are the best female racer I have ever known. Are you really not going to participate in this year’s race?”
Jada was busy with work and had planned to skip this year’s race. But now that her reputation was seriously damaged, she changed her mind. She urgently needed to change other people’s opinions of her. “Well, if you participate, I will also participate.”
“Really? That’s great!”
Wesley became very excited.
Jada removed her helmet and took out her phone. The first thing she saw was a message from the detective she had hired. “My man has taken a photo. I’ll send it to you for five hundred thousand.”
Jada transferred the amount to the detective’s account without hesitation. Then the photo was sent to her in no time.
The woman in the photo wore a hat and sunglasses, revealing only her delicate jaw. Jada immediately messaged the detective. “Is this all you’ve captured? And you dared to ask for five hundred thousand?”
The detective replied, “You don’t know how vigilant she is. My man was even driven away after he took this photo, so this was saved with great effort. Besides, there’s some useful information in this photo.”
Jada frowned. What did the detective mean? She looked at the photo carefully and noticed the woman’s earrings. She immediately understood the detective’s message.
The pair of earrings the woman wore was this year’s latest style and was limited edition. Jada had wanted to buy this pair of earrings, but she had missed out. She didn’t expect to see this woman wearing them. These earrings must have been bought by Norton for this woman.
At the thought of this, Jada’s heart was filled with bitterness. Her fallback for many years had been taken away just like that. She couldn’t compete with Andrew, but could it also be the same with Norton?
Didn’t Norton like her so much? He hadn’t even had a girlfriend for so many years. This realization bolstered Jada’s confidence. She replied, “Find out who has these earrings.” She also had other things to do.
At this moment, Andrew and Isabella had already arrived home. They took a quick shower and went to bed. What happened at the auction was significant. Isabella wanted to suppress the buzz, but she noticed it was becoming quite huge.
The night was peaceful for Isabella. The next day, she noticed that Jada was being scolded online. She never imagined that Jada would lose her title of the top young lady too.
“How could Jada do something like this? I can’t believe it! I used to admire her so much. She’s so educated, smart, and gentle—definitely not the arrogant type.”
“It’s really shocking! I remember when Jada used to respond to fan messages. I really liked her!”
“Seriously? Why do all my favorite celebrities end up with negative news?”
“Does Jada still deserve the top young lady title? I think it suits Isabella much better!”
“She can be ambitious, but she can’t pretend to be something she’s not.”
“Jada shouldn’t hold that title! Isabella is the top young lady in my heart. She auctioned a priceless antique—what a generous act!”
“I agree. That antique was worth a fortune!”
Soon, a poll surfaced pitting Isabella against Jada. The votes for Isabella far surpassed those for Jada. Isabella raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden shift in her favor. Her fan base was growing, and her inbox was overflowing with praise.
Just then, Jared called to congratulate her and asked, “Is Jada still part of our organization?”
“I’m not sure,” Isabella replied casually.
“Alright, I’ll look into it.” A while later, Jared called Isabella again. “She’s an intern at our organization,” he said, his frustration evident. “How on earth did she become a member?”
“Just leave it be,” Isabella said nonchalantly.
Jared then asked, “When does the evaluation start this year?”
Isabella checked her phone and replied, “At the end of the year.”
“Got it. I’ll inform the team.”
Isabella hung up and turned her attention to an urgent matter. The lab’s research and development on the new medicine had stagnated, and she needed to step in. While Jared was preoccupied with company affairs, an unexpected visitor arrived. “Mr. Cooper, Miss Riggs is here.”
“Who?” Jared asked, puzzled. Jada walked in. Wearing a white dress, Jada looked like a delicate flower swaying in the breeze—elegant, charming, and radiating a subtle air of nobility.
An ordinary man might be captivated by her presence. However, Jared had encountered many beautiful women, and since he met Isabella, who was exceptionally attractive, no one else could match her in his eyes.
“Miss Riggs, what brings you here?” Jared asked coldly. Jada remained composed despite his cold demeanor. With a warm smile, she approached him and handed over a set of golf clubs.
“Mr. Cooper, I’ve heard a lot about you. I was abroad for a while and didn’t have the chance to visit, but now that I’m back, I wanted to meet you. I brought this as a gift—I’ve heard you enjoy golf, so I thought you might like these.”
Jared inspected the golf clubs, noting their quality, but remained unimpressed. “Miss Riggs, I’m quite busy,” he said, not taking the gift.
Jada, feigning sadness, replied, “Mr. Cooper, did you misunderstand me because of what happened yesterday? I had no idea my assistant would do something like that. I’ve dealt with her, and she apologized.”
Jada feigned deep sadness and continued, “This issue does involve me, so I wanted to extend my apologies for any misunderstanding it may have caused.”
Jared sneered. Did she really think he was naive? Realizing Jared wasn’t swayed, Jada knew getting close to him wouldn’t be easy. But she was prepared.
