“That’s not everything. Something still feels off,” Isabella mused, glancing between the staff member and Susan.
Jada quickly interrupted, not wanting Isabella to dwell on it. “Right! We can’t keep so many people waiting…”
Wesley scoffed, “Exactly. Huh, both of these two are unbelievable.” His hatred for both Susan and Isabella ran deep. In his eyes, they were nothing but troublemakers, far from being decent people. The influential figures and elites in the room had completely lost any positive opinion they once held about Susan.
“Susan is downright ruthless. Why are the Patton and Klein treating her so well?”
“It’s all because of Isabella. Weren’t she and Susan close friends once upon a time?”
Rebecca sneered in disgust, “Susan, you’re beyond shameless. You used your friendship with Isabella to get close to Andrew and Dane, and now you have the nerve to betray her. You owe Isabella and everyone else here an apology.”
“Rebecca, you really need to relax. You can’t keep jumping to conclusions and letting yourself get misled,” Isabella replied calmly. Rebecca furrowed her brow in confusion. Wasn’t she trying to help Isabella?
“The staff member already confessed. It was Susan’s doing,” Rebecca insisted.
Ignoring Rebecca, Isabella turned her attention to the staff member. “You mentioned that Susan handed you the box and gave you money. So, where’s the money?”
“I haven’t received it yet, but she promised me one hundred thousand,” the staff member said.
A hundred thousand was no small sum, and everyone in the room seemed to acknowledge that.
“I didn’t do it. Why are you framing me like this?” Susan cried, tears welling up in her eyes.
Dane, his face stern and unyielding, responded icily, “I suggest you come clean and tell the truth.”
The staff member, visibly shaken by Dane’s cold glare, stammered, “B-but that is the…”
Jada turned to Susan and said, “Susan, the staff member has already confessed. You might as well come clean too. Are you seriously going to let her take the fall for everything?”
Jada’s words painted Susan as utterly ruthless in the eyes of everyone present. At least, that was how it seemed to everyone watching. Fighting back her tears, Susan exclaimed, “If none of you believe me, go ahead and set a professional to read our lips so you can know what we were talking about.” That was something no one had seen coming.
Wesley, out of the blue, chimed in, “Hey Jada, isn’t lip reading one of your skills? You are part of the Qiviut Organization, after all. Why don’t you go ahead and see what they were saying?”
Jada was caught off guard by Wesley’s sudden suggestion. But the moment Wesley finished speaking, eyes turned to Jada, filled with admiration and respect.
“Wait, Jada is part of the Qiviut Organization?” someone whispered in surprise.
“The Qiviut Organization is no joke. My cousin tried to get in, but they turned him down,” another voice added. “No wonder Jada’s so famous around Ansport. She really is incredible,” someone else remarked with admiration.
Jada had no interest in reading Susan’s and the staff member’s lips, but with everyone looking up to her, she felt compelled to say, “Alright, I’ll give it a try, though lip reading isn’t exactly my specialty.”
Wesley grinned, clearly impressed. “You’re always so modest, Jada. You say you can’t do it, but then you nail it every time.”
Jada had no choice but to start analyzing the surveillance footage. The movements of both Susan’s and the staff member’s lips were clearly visible on the video. The entire room fell silent.
“Alright, I’ve mostly figured it out,” Jada said a little awkwardly. “The staff member asked Susan what was in the box, and Susan told her to present it as Isabella’s auction item. She even promised to pay her a hundred thousand afterward.”
Upon hearing this, the staff member, looking deeply wronged, exclaimed, “I honestly believed it was Isabella’s idea! I had no clue Susan was setting her up. I swear I didn’t know!”
“If what she’s saying is true, then how does Susan still have the nerve to act innocent? She’s disgusting!” someone said angrily.
“Exactly! I agree. The charity auction should blacklist her right now. My company and my friend’s company will never do business with Susan again.”
“If Susan becomes the head of the Riggs Group, I’ll blacklist the entire company,” another person added. Jada’s eyes held a trace of sadness, but deep down, her heart was filled with joy. At long last, she had secured a victory that felt undeniably sweet. Did Susan honestly believe that things would go smoothly for her just because she had stepped away from the Riggs Group? She would never be free of the Riggs Group. It rightfully belonged to her. Once this situation became public, their father would never dream of handing the company to Susan. Meanwhile, Isabella and Susan’s friendship would officially come to an end. Everything was unfolding just the way she had hoped. Jada had to put in effort to keep herself from bursting into laughter.
“I really don’t think that’s the case,” a sudden voice broke through the discussions.
All eyes turned toward the source of the voice, and there stood Jared.
With a raised brow, he asked, “Jada, are you absolutely certain you’re reporting what they actually said?”
“Mr. Cooper, I’m not a professional at this. I can only make out the general idea of what was said,” she replied.
Jared nodded and responded, “You’re right; you’re definitely not a professional.”
Jada couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled by Jared’s sudden involvement. Someone in the crowd remarked, “Isn’t Cooper also part of the Qiviut Organization? Does that mean he can read lips too?”
“I’ve taken an interest in it and studied it a bit. But to avoid giving you any wrong information, I’ll have my friend handle it.” Without missing a beat, Jared made a video call.
A figure appeared on the phone screen. Those familiar with him couldn’t contain their excitement when they recognized him.
“That’s Jensen Kinney—the best lip reader in the entire county!”
“Mr. Cooper certainly has influential friends.”
Jared then angled the screen toward the surveillance footage and requested, “Could you play it again so my friend can take a look at what they actually said?”
The surveillance video was replayed. When Jada heard the name “Jensen Kinney,” her body went rigid. She had anticipated that Jensen would be involved. Jensen would undoubtedly know exactly what Susan and the staff member were talking about. No way!
Taking a seat, Jada pulled out her iPad. Soon, the screen was flooded with codes. Meanwhile, on stage, Rebecca felt increasingly uneasy. The situation was becoming more unpredictable by the minute. She stood there, her nerves fraying. If Susan hadn’t been behind this, wouldn’t she become a laughingstock? People would think she always relied on others’ opinions…
As the surveillance video began to play, it suddenly flickered and went black. “What happened?” The crowd murmured, growing restless. Isabella, narrowing her eyes, realized that someone was tampering with the auction venue’s internet connection. She swiftly pulled out her phone and began working on it. Andrew, following suit, also retrieved his phone but noticed that Isabella was already busy with hers, her fingers moving rapidly. He smiled and set his phone aside.
This was a battle fought without bullets. As confusion spread among the crowd, the screen remained completely dark. Jada stared at it, a smile playing on her lips.
“Crack, crack, crack!”
In the next instant, the screen flickered back to life, but the iPad in Jada’s hand suddenly powered down. Shocked, she attempted to restart it, but the screen remained stubbornly black, making it difficult for her to breathe. Had someone just counterattacked her?
Since Jada had managed to enter the Qiviut Organization, it was clear she was both skilled and adept at hacking. Was someone defending the auction network and countering her efforts? Could it be? Jada quickly scanned the room, but with so many people absorbed in their phones, she couldn’t pinpoint the culprit.
She fell on Jared, who was holding a laptop. If Jared was indeed a member of the Qiviut Organization, he would likely be a hacker as well. Could he be the one? Jada pursed her lips. It seemed she would need to bring Jared into the fold as soon as possible.
At that moment, a voice emanated from Jared’s phone. “I already know what they were talking about.”
“Okay, go ahead.”
Jared grabbed a microphone from somewhere and positioned it in front of the phone. Jensen’s voice echoed clearly throughout the hall. “The person holding the box said, ‘Excuse me, is this box supposed to be here?’ The staff member replied, ‘Yes, you can give it to me.’ The woman with the box then said, ‘Okay, then I’ll head back!'” After Jensen’s recitation, a profound silence followed. This was starkly different from what the staff member had initially reported.
At this moment, the staff member’s face turned an ashen hue. As everyone’s gaze fixed on her, her legs gave way, and she collapsed to her knees. The collective realization dawned on the crowd: the staff member had been lying.
“What a marvelous day today! The situation keeps turning on its head!”
“It’s more thrilling than a TV drama! If it wasn’t Susan, then who on earth framed Isabella?”
“It was worth coming here today.”
Jared remarked, “Generally speaking, when something happens, the person who stands to gain the most is usually the one behind it. What do you think?” His observation was spot-on, and several people nodded in agreement.
Everyone paused to reflect. Given that Isabella had gotten into trouble and Susan had been accused of framing her, who would have benefited from this scheme? It seemed the only plausible answer was Jada.
After all, if Susan’s reputation were tarnished, Jada would have a better chance of securing the Riggs Group. This maneuver could also estrange Isabella and Susan from each other. Realizing this, the crowd quickly grasped the complexity of the situation. They recalled that from the start, Jada had been orchestrating and steering the narrative.
Jada sensed the shift in the crowd’s perception. Overwhelmed by the realization and the weight of Jared’s words, she began to cry. “Isabella is my friend. I saw that she was being wronged, so I spoke up on her behalf. Isabella, you believe me, don’t you?”
Jada gazed at Isabella with a mix of grievance and hope, but Isabella’s expression remained conflicted. She lowered her head and said, “I don’t know. You’ve been asking me to admit my mistake and apologize from the start.”
That was true. Jada had initially doubted Isabella and suggested an apology. As a result, the crowd’s gazes toward Jada became complex. Watching Jada, Rebecca felt as though she had been struck by lightning. Yes, it seemed Jada had been guiding the situation all along! If Jada hadn’t made those statements, she would not have felt so compelled to confront Isabella about the authenticity of the crown. While others might still be unsure about Jada, Rebecca was almost certain that Jada’s actions were deliberate. At that moment, she had become a mere pawn, following Jada’s lead. She was a prominent figure in Ansport, but today’s events would undoubtedly tarnish her reputation in the future.
Clenching her fists, Rebecca confronted Jada. “Jada, did you orchestrate all this?”
“Rebecca, what do you mean?” Jada feigned innocence.
“It was your words that led me to confront Isabella about the authenticity of the crown. So it turns out I’m just another pawn in your game, isn’t that right?”
Rebecca sneered.
Jada’s heart sank. The folks in Ansport were far from foolish. The moment a loophole surfaced, everyone would be on it in a heartbeat, quickly figuring out what was happening. Now, she would never admit she was the mastermind behind this.
