Karl leaned in closer, eyes glinting with trouble again. “Should we kiss to seal it?”
I smiled. “Should I throw you off the balcony?”
“Nah,” he shook his head, face falling, “I’m good. I’m wearing the best outfit I brought.”
My eyes automatically flickered down his body, quickly returning to his eyes once I realised it.
There was a cheeky grin plastered on his face. Karl wiggled his eyebrows. “Like what you see?”
“First of all-“
“Get away from her,” Elijah hissed, appearing out of nowhere. He pulled Karl away from me by the back of his neck, slamming his brother against the wall. I gasped and moved away, covering my mouth. Elijah growled at Karl, who laughed while his brother held him by the throat. “I told you to keep a distance, Karl. What the hell were you doing to her?”
“Nothing,” Karl chuckled, his face slightly red. “Relax, dude.
“Don’t lie to me!” Elijah yelled, shoving him aside.
Karl fell to his knees, coughing.
Elijah moved towards him again, his eyes gleaming gold.”
-1 alonood at me. raising her eyebrows.
I blinked, impressed.
Zane clapped gently, while the others nodded in approval.
Christy smiled. “What do you think?”
“I think it’s amazing, Chris. I love the tension,” I said honestly.. “I have a question,” Ajax said, raising his hand. “Who is Nia? Why is she talking in Kayley’s head? I didn’t get that part.”
“Nia is Kayley’s wolf,” Christy explained. “In my book, their wolves are named entities living inside them, who they can talk to and give up control to when they transform.”
“Oh,” we all said in unison.
“And why were Elijah’s eyes glowing?” Zane asked.
“Their eyes glow when they’re mad.”
“Instead of turning black.” Sapphire nodded. “That’s a nice change from the real world.”
All our eyes widened, gazes turning to Nathan.
“Dool world? There are no werewolves in the real world…”
-AJAX’S POV-
The music was loud, the drinks were flowing, and honestly, I was having the time of my life. in
Warner, though, was stiff as a board next to me, his eyes darting to the doors every two seconds like Sapphire was about to pop and grade him for effort.
“Relax, man,” I said, bumping his shoulder with mine. “It’s a party, not an exam.”
He shot me a look. “You don’t get it. Everything needs to be perfect. Sapphire likes things done a certain way, and she especially enjoys making fun of werewolves for being sloppy.”
I snorted into my drink. “Never thought you’d be so whipped, Warner. You’re worse than Aaron and Zane sometimes. This is proper simp behaviour. Next thing I know, you’ll be asking me to iron your shirt because ‘Sapphire likes crisp collars’.”
Warner’s jaw ticked, but his lips twitched like he was holding back a smile. “Laugh now. Wait till you find your mate. Let’s see if you’re still talking big then.”
“Mate or no mate,” I said, grinning, “I’ll never be as gone as you. You’re done for, brother.”
Before he could fire back, the doors of the pack house creaked open, and everything inside me froze.
Warner straightened immediately, standing up from his chair, barely keeping himself from rushing forward to receive her.
The first thing I registered was a scent. Sweet. Addictive. Like fire and wild roses twisted into one.
My heart thundered in my chest, as sharp tingles shot through .me, skin prickling like I’d been hit by lightning.
I frowned, breathing slowly, the world around me blurring.
Black glitter floated into the pack house first, setting the stage for a dramatic entrance straight out of a fairytale.
Witches and their magic tricks.
Then they walked in-Sapphire at the front, her coven following behind like shadows made of silk and magic. The room shifted, energy sparking with the kind of tension only witches carried with them.
My chest rumbled before I even realised, a low growl clawing up my throat. My eyes went black, claws threatening to surface, instincts snapping awake like I’d been waiting for this exact moment my whole life.
Maybe I was.
Then my gaze finally locked on her, and everything started to make sense.
She had long red hair that caught the lights, falling around her shoulders in waves. Her eyes scanned the room, sharp, clever, and somehow soft all at once.
My whole body went still, every muscle flexing, a single thought replaying in my head over and over.
The word left my lips before I could stop it, raw and certain.
“Mine.”
-ZANE’S POV-
The main hall of the pack house was buzzing, music booming through the air, the scent of food and wine thick around us.
Lights hung from the beams and candles burned on every table. People laughed, voices carrying above the sound of clinking glasses, and for once the tension that had lived in this house for months was gone.
I stood on the platform with Lia, her hand resting in mine, both of us looking out over the room. Sapphire and her coven had just arrived, their presence attracting every pair of eyes. She was dressed sharp as always, that dark witch elegance that made people stare without even realising it.
“Tonight we welcome new family,” I said, my voice echoing across the room. The music dropped low, conversations dimming until there was only silence and the soft crackle of the torches on the walls. “Sapphire, you’ve done more for us than most will ever know. If it weren’t for you, we would never have stood a chance against the Order, or all the other threats we’ve faced in the last year. You gave us strength when we were close to breaking. You risked your life for people who weren’t your own. And because of that, you are our own now.”
The pack cheered, clapping and howling, a lot of them already drunk.
I glanced at Lia, her smile wide, eyes shining.
Then I looked back at Sapphire, who gave me the smallest nod, her lips twitching into a smile.
Warner pushed forward from the crowd, his face practically glowing. He didn’t hesitate, didn’t stop, just grabbed her face in both hands and kissed her like the world wasn’t watching. The pack erupted again, half whistles, half laughter, people shouting his name. Sapphire actually laughed against his mouth, and for
Clase once, she looked like she belonged here.
“Our warrior meets his witch,” I announced, starting another rumble of applause.
Lia laughed beside me, whole-hearted and full. My heart warmed in my chest, and for a long moment, I simply listened to the sound.
The noise settled eventually, though people kept sneaking looks at the two of them. I cleared my throat and lifted my hand slightly for attention.
“There’s something else I need to say,” I went on. “It’s been a long year. Longer than any of us thought we’d survive. I won’t stand here and pretend it was easy. I lost count of how many nights I thought we were done for, how many times I thought I’d never see another sunrise. But every time I was about to give up, someone pulled me back.”
I turned then, looking at Lia. She looked up at me with those eyes that had me ruined, her lips parted, her hand tightening around mine.
“My mate. My Luna. She saved me more than once. She saved all of us. She stood in front of death more times than I can count, and she never hesitated. She’s the reason I’m standing here at all, the reason this pack still exists, the reason we can look around and see each other alive. If you ever doubt the strength of women, just look at her. Her, and Sheila, and Sapphire.”
Everyone clapped once more, beaming and shining with happiness and pride.
“I’m proud of you, Lia,” I added. “More than I could ever put into words. And I’m lucky. In fact, the word doesn’t even begin to cover it. I love you, my world. Always.”
The hall erupted again, the sound of whistling and cheering filling the space. Lia’s cheeks burned pink, her eyes glistening. She lowered her head for a second before looking back up at me, and I couldn’t resist leaning down to kiss her.
She kissed me back with matching enthusiasm, her heart hammering against mine as I pulled her to myself.
“Now,” I said, forcing myself to pull away, “enough of me standing up here. Everyone enjoy yourselves. Eat, drink, dance until you can’t stand anymore. Tonight is for family.”
I laced my fingers with Lia’s, and together we stepped down from the platform into the sea of faces, people patting my back, squeezing her hand, the celebration already bursting back to life around us.
I steered her through the crowd until we reached the quieter side of the hall. She tilted her head at me, smiling.
“This was supposed to be about Sapphire,” she said, eyes wide in a mock glare as a smile played on her lips.
“They won’t mind,” I replied, pulling her into another kiss.
She laughed against my lips, then pushed me back by the shoulders. “You’ve got that look,” she said. “What’s going on?”
“What look?” I asked, smirking.. “The one that means you’re hiding something.”
I leaned closer, resting my forehead against hers. “I’ve got a surprise for you.”
