Chapter 246 – Returning to Her Not-So-Poor Family

It’s definitely not a bank card, nor was it valuable jewelry.

“I know you’re not short on cash, and your engagement party will have everything you could ever want. So I made you a matching set of bedding. It’s a symbol of a deep bond between husband and wife. I wish you happiness forever.”

Olga rolled her eyes. She thought she was going to get something special, but instead, she got a bunch of nonsense!

“I don’t need this; take it back!” Yolanda, holding Olga’s hand, was about to go inside.

“Yoli!” Yvonne hurriedly stopped her, watching her daughter’s unfamiliar back. Tears flashed in her eyes. “This might be the last time I come to see you, and I might not show up again. Just take it, and then I’ll leave!”

This might be the best wedding gift she could give to her former daughter.

Yolanda seemed impatient, signaled the maid, who took the bag directly from Yvonne.

The rude action and disdainful look were undoubtedly insults to Yvonne.

“Miss has accepted it. Can you leave now?”

Yoli

Just as Yvonne was about to say something, Yolanda showed impatience. “I’ve accepted it. What else do you want? Don’t you see we’re hurt? We want to go inside and disinfect the wounds and apply some ointment, okay?”

Tears filled Yvonne’s eyes. She nodded, sobbing, “I wish you happiness.”

Yolanda’s body instantly stiffened.

“Call the property management, tell them to be careful, don’t just let anyone in!” Olga said, as if this was already her home. She was already the mistress here!

Yvonne hadn’t walked far when she heard Olga’s words. She laughed at herself mockingly.

These years, she had raised Yolanda to the age of eighteen.

After Yolanda found her biological parents, Demetrius and Olga wanted to give her money as a thank you, but she refused. She just hoped to see Yolanda when she had time, but Yolanda didn’t recognize her, didn’t want to have any relationship with her, and the people of the Melton family didn’t let her come to visit anymore.

She had come a few times with a thick skin but was driven away each time..

Although she knew that Yoli had found her biological parents now, was living in a wealthy family, and her life must be better than before, Yoli didn’t appreciate her kindness, which made her very sad.

“What a thing! So ugly!” The maid opened the bag as soon as she entered the room, took out the things inside, and laughed while looking at them. “This kind of handiwork, if you didn’t know, you’d think the Melton family couldn’t afford bedding like it was bought from a roadside stall!”

Olga glanced at it and said coldly, “Throw it away!”

Yoli, even after getting married, can’t use such crude bedding. Otherwise, she’ll have nightmares!

Yolanda glanced at the pattern on the pillowcase and suddenly remembered that when she was a child, Yvonne used to embroider under the light every night to pay her tuition.

Yvonne’s embroidery skills were very superb, and she was especially good at embroidering swans, which were lifelike. In that poor place, whenever someone had a happy event, they liked to ask Yvonne to embroider a pair of swan pillowcases.

With this, Yvonne also made some extra money, paid the tuition, and had money to buy candy for her daughter.

That kind of life was completely different from the Melton family’s life!

The maid threw the bedding into the trash. She didn’t forget to complain, “In the future, when Yoli marries into the Panter family, she will naturally use the most popular, most comfortable, and most beautiful bedding. I think Yvonne just wants to let the people of the Panter family know that Miss had a disgraceful past, deliberately using this to disgust people! She wants to make Yoli feel uncomfortable.”

Olga didn’t want to hear about Yvonne anymore and waved her hand, “Go get the first aid kit.”

They were beaten black and blue by Erlinda’s people tonight, and in pain all over, they couldn’t think of anything else.

“Ma’am, hold on a second. I’ll check if there’s a first aid kit in the old lady’s room.”

This villa was never really theirs!

After a while, the nanny finally found a first aid kit, and luckily, some of the medicine was still good.

Demetrius, reeling from the pain, slumped on the couch while the nanny cleaned his wounds, “Easy, easy, oh my God, my back!”

“Mom, how could Mirabella possibly be Kenneth and Louisa’s biological daughter? And how could she be Romeo’s fiancée? She’s also recognized as Mr. Rollins‘ granddaughter and Ms. Archer’s niece.”

Such high–profile identities, each one more impressive than their own!

The nanny, who was treating Yolanda’s wounds, was taken aback by the news and exchanged glances with her colleagues. They had no idea Mirabella was so well–connected!

They had been too cold to her before! Now they were kicking themselves!

Yolanda gritted her teeth on the couch as the nanny treated her wounds, feeling a sense of injustice.

Why? Why did she get all the good things in life?!

Olga, lying on the couch in pain, said, “We, the Melton family, have raised her for eighteen years without ever asking the Collins family for a penny. They ought to treat us better. Ouch, easy! Are you trying to kill me with pain?”

“I’m sorry, Ma’am, I didn’t mean to hurt you,” the nanny apologized, having been eavesdropping on their conversation and lost her focus.

“Get a grip, Demetrius. We’ve been told that not only did their daughter not receive the care she should have from us, but also our current status is all thanks to her! They are already generous by not taking everything we have now, and you still want to ask for child support?” Demetrius spoke while wincing in pain.

“I was just saying!” Olga admitted she was in the wrong, “That Ms. Archer was too harsh tonight. She hit us so hard.”

They howled all night, and early next morning, Demetrius received a phone call that stunned him, “What did you say?”

After hanging up, he fell onto the couch, dazed.

“What happened?” Olga was scared to see him like this..

“I can’t believe this,” Demetrius could barely speak, his mind blank.

Yolanda was slowly coming downstairs, leaning on the railing because of her foot pain, and asked, “Dad, what happened?”

“Demetrius, say something! What’s wrong?” Olga was patting his back, bringing him tea, comforting him. It took a while before Demetrius came to his senses.

“The plot of land we bought must be developed within a month and cannot be traded or used as collateral for bank loans for five years.”

This meant, for five years, that land can only sit idle in their hands!

They can’t borrow more money from the bank using it, nor can they sell it to someone else, and they must start construction within a month! Otherwise, it’s a breach of contract!

Yolanda was shocked after hearing this!

“What did you say? Is this information accurate?” Olga was even more incredulous, “We are broke. We were hoping to turn our luck around by selling this land! You’re saying we can’t sell it for five years? How are we supposed to pay back the loans we owe to those rural banks, with interest amounting to millions every month?”

And the money they borrowed from other people, they promised to pay interest every month. The bank’s interest plus these people’s interest adds up to more than 300,000 dollars.

The Melton group’s current operating profit, the net profit per month, was less than 50,000!

How to pay back more than 300,000 dollars?

They simply can’t afford it!

“Who told you this? Is it true? Did you ask for clarification?” Olga asked hopefully, “Why haven’t we heard of this before?”

“All the big companies knew about this, so the bidders this time are all top–tier companies. They’ve got the dough, so even if they shelf the property for five years after buying it, it won’t affect their cash flow.”

But they just can’t do that!

They’ve borrowed a ton of money, including bank loans and personal loans, even sold some stuff, and finally scraped together $1.2 billion!

They originally planned to flip the property right after buying it, and they had no plans to hold onto it for long!

“The day I won the bid, the documents I signed already mentioned this situation.” Demetrius was full of regret.

He was too excited at the time, only thinking about putting his name on the dotted line, and didn’t bother reading all the fine print!

“Also, before the auction started, the organizers had already brought up this issue. But we just heard it through the grapevine, we didn’t look into it because we decided to join the auction last minute.”

Olga felt a wave of darkness wash over her. She reached out to steady herself on the couch, took a moment, then said, “So, the Melton family is really screwed this time. No wonder so many small companies didn’t dare to take on this property. On one hand, it’s a money issue. On the other hand, after buying it, they have to sit on it for five years.”

They can’t even wait five months, let alone five years!

With so much interest to pay back each month, there’s no way they can keep up!!

“Demetrius, what are we going to do?” Olga was on the verge of tears, “Such a big property, we don’t have the spare cash to develop it now, plus the $300,000 interest every month, how can we afford it?”

Demetrius also felt like the sky was falling. He remained silent.
