Susan’s heart ached so intensely it felt hard to breathe. What was supposed to be a joyful day for everyone had turned into this.

“Go ahead and have dinner with them. Don’t worry about me; I’m just too tired and need some time alone to rest,” Susan said weakly.

“I’ll stay here with you,” Dane said gently, noticing her distress.

“No, you should go,” Susan insisted.

Eventually, seeing how troubled she was, Dane felt compelled to leave.

As the door shut, Susan’s tears began to flow once more. She struggled to comprehend why fate seemed so cruel. She had believed her happiness was everlasting, yet it was suddenly shattered.

Susan’s heart was overwhelmed with agony. Feeling lost and unsure, she took out her phone and anonymously sought advice online.

“If you are about to get engaged but then find out you’re pregnant and are uncertain about the father because you were once forced into sex, and your boyfriend is unaware, what would you do in such a situation?”

Before long, she received a multitude of responses.

“You’re unsure of the father? If your boyfriend treats you well, then it might be best to terminate the pregnancy.”

Susan responded, “He’s the best person I’ve ever known; I feel like I’ve betrayed him.”

“I’m so sorry for you. You should discuss it with your boyfriend. If he truly loves you, he’ll understand and empathize with your situation. I love my boyfriend as well, and if he found out, he’d be heartbroken. If I were in your place, I’d discreetly terminate the pregnancy and keep it a secret.”

After reading this suggestion, Susan considered it might be the most viable solution.

By ending this pregnancy, she could make a fresh start and begin a new chapter in her life.

Susan believed that if Dane learned the truth, he would only harbor hatred for Onyx. While he might not end their relationship, it would undoubtedly cause him pain. Thus, she resolved to handle the situation alone and keep Dane in the dark.

The following morning, she got up and prepared to go to the hospital. But as she stepped outside, she noticed a familiar car. The man beside it looked worn out, clearly having stayed up all night. Susan’s gaze shifted.

As Dane saw her approaching, he called out, “Susan.”

“You stayed all night?” Susan asked, her voice trembling.

Dane nodded. “I noticed you weren’t feeling well, so I stayed close. I wanted to be here in case you needed me.”

Tears immediately welled up in Susan’s eyes.

“Susan, what’s wrong?” Seeing her tears, Dane grew anxious. “What happened?”

Susan bit her lip, her sobs coming uncontrollably. Dane had always been so kind and wonderful to her. She didn’t want him to suffer because of this.

“I’m just overwhelmed with happiness. You’ve been so good to me. No one has ever treated me this kindly.”

Susan dried her tears and offered him a smile.

Dane noticed something was amiss but chose not to press the issue. Softly, he wiped her tears away. “You’re my girlfriend, and I’ll always treat you well. My family will be kind to you too.”

“Is that true?”

“Definitely. Since you’re not feeling your best today, let’s go out and enjoy ourselves.” Dane took her hand. Observing the resolve in his eyes, Susan felt she had no option but to agree.

However, she soon realized that ending the pregnancy wouldn’t be straightforward. Dane was always by her side, attentive to even the smallest changes in her behavior. He would undoubtedly notice if she felt any discomfort in her body.

It appeared that she would have to postpone her plan. The following few calm days passed in the blink of an eye.

After Waylon came back for a brief visit, he left once again to resume filming. Isabella had recently handled Edge Entertainment efficiently, so she was less concerned. Following lunch at home, she made her way to the office and encountered Maxine exiting, her expression mixed as her assistant spoke beside her.

“Miss Patton?” Maxine’s eyes brightened when she saw Isabella.

Isabella nodded in acknowledgment. “Hmm, what’s with the long face?”

Maxine sighed deeply and replied slowly, “It’s nothing major, just some work issues. I can handle them on my own.”

However, her assistant couldn’t resist adding, “Someone has been pursuing Maxine lately, Miss Patton.”

“Oh?” Isabella arched an eyebrow. “Who’s the person?”

Maxine shot her assistant a disapproving look, but the assistant continued matter-of-factly, “Maxine, Miss Patton is very kind to us. It’ll be simpler if you just let her know.”

“It’s… the vice president of Patton Group.” Maxine gazed at Isabella.

Isabella was taken aback.

The vice president of Patton Group?

A name crossed Isabella’s mind. “Hector Lyons?”

Maxine was surprised by how quickly Isabella had blurted the name out. “You know him? Ah, I’m such an idiot. Of course you do. You’re part of the Patton family.”

Instead of answering the question, Isabella asked, “How is he pursuing you?”

“Miss Patton, please don’t listen to my assistant. She’s talking nonsense. He isn’t pursuing me,” Maxine hurriedly said, glaring at her assistant. She didn’t expect her assistant to talk so candidly. But her assistant just stuck out her tongue, showing no regrets. The assistant always felt Isabella was a good person and would definitely find a solution for them.

Maxine continued, “He just asked me out to eat and talk about business. It’s nothing personal; it’s just that I feel we’ve gone out too often.”

Isabella’s eyes narrowed. Why would a man invite a woman out like that? Maxine felt uncomfortable because the man was Hector, the vice president of Patton Group. Besides, he was old enough to be her father.

Recently, Isabella had been thinking about finding an opportunity to visit Hector. Finally, she got one now. She smiled at Maxine and nodded, “Okay, I’ll go with you.”

Maxine lit up at once, but then her expression dimmed. “But Miss Patton, you are very busy. I can’t disturb you. Don’t worry about me; I can go there by myself.”

“It’s okay. I have nothing important to do today anyway. Let’s go,” Isabella said.

Maxine couldn’t help smiling. Since Isabella was with her, Hector couldn’t think of doing anything inappropriate.

It took them fifteen minutes to arrive at the restaurant. Hector was already there, wearing a refined brown suit. He looked exceptionally upright and noble. He was accompanied by his assistant.

His assistant said, “Mr. Lyons, women at Maxine’s age can’t resist your charm, so we must make things clear to her. Then she won’t pester you like that woman last time.”

In the assistant’s eyes, Hector was a charming man. He was in his forties, but his well-maintained face didn’t show his age at all. He looked like he was only in his early thirties. And his rich experience gave him a mature masculine aura. Furthermore, he was the vice president of Patton Group. This identity made him irresistible to women in their twenties.

This had happened before. Several young women kept pestering Hector after they met him. But later, for some reason that even the assistant didn’t know, they never appeared again.

Hector smiled and said gently, “Maxine is different.” As soon as he said this, they heard some noise at the door. He looked over, and his smile deepened when he saw Maxine come in and greet him. “Mr. Lyons.”

“Hello, Maxine,” Hector greeted back with a smile and an excellent aura.

At this moment, another woman walked in behind Maxine.

“Mr. Lyons.”

Hector looked at Isabella, who wore a blue suit. She looked beautiful, but her strong aura could not be underestimated.

His eyes narrowed; he knew Isabella. She was Glenn’s daughter. But this was their first time meeting face-to-face.

“Isabella… I heard you were back, but I’ve been so busy dealing with business that I haven’t found a chance to visit you. My bad. This is our first meeting. Let’s exchange contact details.” Hector smiled.

Isabella didn’t refuse. After exchanging contact information, Hector transferred one hundred thousand dollars to her account and said, “I didn’t prepare a gift for you. Please accept this and buy whatever you want. Your father and I are good friends, so if you have any problems in the future, don’t hesitate to come to me.”

“Okay, I will remember that,” Isabella replied.

The corners of Hector’s eyes twitched slightly. He had thought Isabella would at least try to return the money. His eyes moved to Maxine. He smiled and asked, “Are you friends?”

“Yes, Maxine is my favorite,” Isabella replied, taking a sip of her coffee.

“Oh, I see,” Hector said in a low voice. Then, he started talking about work.
