“You are bullying me right now by doing this, Zane. Why can’t you just leave me alone?” I asked, crossing my arms.
Zane narrowed his eyes. He stepped forward and grabbed my arm, pulling me tightly against his chest.
“What are you-“
“Sh.” He pushed my hand behind my back to keep me taut against his body, then clamped his free hand onto my lips. My eyes widened, and I tried to shout, but the sound was muffled. “This is bullying, love. This right now. And I have the power to bully you anytime anywhere. So please don’t ever ask me to leave you alone again. Especially not after you’ve spent the whole day with that jerk.”
Heat spread through my body, my heart hammering in my chest. Zane looked mad. Genuinely mad.
-LIA’S POV-
He slowly withdrew his hands, letting go of me.
I stepped away from him, staring at him silently.
“What was he doing here?” he asked.
I swallowed. “Nothing. He just came to see me. It’s none of your business.”
“You’re right.” He nodded. “But neither is it his when he tells you to stay away from me.”
“He’s my friend,” I repeated.
“And what about me?” he asked.
“I don’t know, Zane. You tell me. What is acceptable for you?”
He frowned. “Acceptable for me?”
“Yeah,” I nodded, sarcasm dripping from my tone. “Clearly, you’re too good to be seen talking to me. You’re the great Zane Adams and I’m just a loser.”
His frown deepened and he stepped closer. “That’s not true, Lia.”
“Oh really?” I asked. “Then you must have told your friends about our meetings, right?”
“I did.”
“Liar,” I spat, rolling my eyes. “Zane, you need to leave, please. Just go. I don’t want to see you.”
“Lia, what did I do?” he asked, trying to take my hand.
But I quickly slapped it away. “I am too smart to be fooled by your tricks, Zane. On one hand you act like I’m someone so important to you that you take the time to compile an entire photo album for me. On the other hand, you cannot bear to be seen talking to me. I get it, your friends despise me and if you were to suddenly be kind to me, you would have to relinquish your ‘Alpha’ title in the group. They would never respect you if you were friends with someone like me, so you cannot actually fulfill the promise you made to me. It’s fine, because I have Blake to protect me, alright? I don’t need you to do anything.”
Zane’s face fell. “You really think I do not want to be seen with you?”
“What other explanation is there?” I asked. “You find me in dark, hidden corners, or you show up at my house where no one else is. You claim you’ll get your friends to stop bothering me, and then your friends don’t even know about our meetings. Tell me what else it could be. I’m listening.”
Zane closed the space between us once more, the scent of his cologne washing over me. He stared at me, his dark blue eyes boring into mine. Somehow, just him stepping closer made me forget a bit of the anger I was feeling a second ago.
“Lia, if you’d allow me, I would grab you by the back of your neck and kiss you in front of the entire school,” he whispered, sending a shiver through me. “I would have it recorded and posted all over social media and everywhere else, for every man and woman to see and wish that they were us.”
My heart hammered away in my chest, my mind going completely blank.
Did he just…?
He…
Zane curled a finger under my chin, tipping my face slightly up. “You have no idea how difficult it is for me to stay away from you. How much strength it takes, for me to not rip your clothes off the second I’m anywhere around you. How desperately I want and desire you. So you should be glad, that the worst thing I do is keep my distance. Because if I stop, I don’t think you or your new friend will be able to take it.”
His voice was entirely serious, not a tinge of amusement or mischief lying under his tone. His eyes looked darker than normal, reflecting sincerity and a thirst of the forbidden.

“Zane,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “You’re… lying.”
“I wish I was, my Little Lia. I really do. Because at this point, I’m not certain how long I’ll be able to hold back.”
“Are you threatening me?” I asked, my voice small.
“If that sounds like a threat to you, then yes. Maybe I am. But if you ask about my intentions, my words were just meant to warn you of what’s coming in the near future.”
I took in a deep breath. “I don’t want that, Zane,” I said softly, my voice completely betraying my words.
His lips curled into a smirk. “I know exactly what you want, Lia.”
“Blake,” I said, clearing my throat. “I want Blake. I like him, Zane. I like him a lot. He’s kind to me, and he protects me. He saw me when no one else did. No photo album is going to change that.”
Zane’s jaw clenched. “Is this because I hadn’t told my friends. about you until today?”
“No. It’s because you still haven’t told them.”
“I have, Lia. I did.”
“Well, I don’t believe you. And even if you did, Blake is still a lot better than you. At least he has the guts to court me publicly. In front of everyone. He doesn’t seek me out when I’m alone and out of sight. He is my friend, and he accepts me before the world. Instead of just talking about it.”
Zane nodded slowly, then withdrew his hand from my chin and stepped away from me.
“I understand, Lia. Not a problem.”
He turned around and approached the window, pausing to glance back at me.
“See you tomorrow at school.” He then jumped off, and I sucked in a breath, hurrying to the window.
But he was nowhere to be seen.
I glanced around, bending forwards to make sure he wasn’t lying there dead.
But Zane was gone just as fast as he came.
I released a breath, stepping away from the window.
What was he going to do in school? And how would Blake react to it?
What if he really kissed me in front of everyone? How would I explain that to Blake and Christy?
Oh God, what had I gotten myself into?
-LIA’S POV-
I almost chickened out of going to school the next day, Zane’s threat or ‘warning’ running in my mind.
But if I did that, I feared he would never leave me alone.
I didn’t entirely believe he would do what he said, or even a part of it. Chances were, he wouldn’t have the guts, and then if he ever approached me or tried to break into my bedroom, I could tell him to get lost. If I stayed home and avoided school, I’d be giving him an excuse. Any time I’d try to blame him, he would say he was going to make our thing public, but I never showed up. So I had to be at school that day, just to prove that his words were just that. Words.
But showing up to school did not mean that I wouldn’t do everything in my power to avoid him. I wouldn’t hide away in places I’d be away from others, instead I was going to hang out in the most crowded areas of school, and have Blake and Christy accompany me at all times. It would make this a lot more challenging for him, and I could bet he would fail at it.
The three of us sat in the cafeteria, pretty close to the counter. I had purposely chosen this table as there were queues of students nearby, making anything that would happen a lot more noticeable. My gaze swept around as Christy rambled on about a werewolf movie she had seen the previous night. It had a

My gaze swept around as Christy rambled on about a werewolf movie she had seen the previous night. It had a ridiculous plot, where the wolf falls in love with a human and has a baby with her. Werewolves were supposed to be scary and ferocious, magical serial killers who ate people. Not some stupid teenage lover boys who would lose their hearts to human girls.
“And then he grabbed her and kissed her, before sinking his canines into her neck.”
Blake smiled, whilst I grimaced. “What? I thought you said he’s a werewolf.”
