Consequently, after the drama aired, Milly’s fan base grew rapidly. Meanwhile, the audience’s disappointment in Tatiana began to grow. In terms of both acting ability and appearance, Tatiana couldn’t hold a candle to Milly.

While the buzz around Milly’s stunning beauty reached a peak, an account that posted celebrity gossip suddenly leaked some news.

“‘Milly, the popular idol, has a boyfriend, and her boyfriend is none other than Howard Patton.” The candid photos quickly went viral online.

In the photos, the two of them had undeniable chemistry. Yet, netizens found it difficult to accept this pairing. After all, who was Howard? He was a member of the Patton family, a tech prodigy. How could someone like him end up with Milly?

“I’m a huge fan of Milly, but this news is really hitting me hard! Milly, you’ve really disappointed me. And Howard? Who would have guessed he’d be the type to fall for someone so pretty?”

“I like both of you, but now they’re ruined for me. Who else feels my pain?”

“No, I just can’t grasp why they can’t be together.”

“Milly is a new actress. How did she attract Howard? Is it all because of her looks? Howard has always been my hero. I always imagined he would pick someone intelligent and educated. It’s hard to believe he chose Milly. It makes him seem shallow. I’m so let down.”

“I don’t see the wrong with people falling in love because they want to. Even if Howard is drawn to Milly for her looks, what’s the issue? Everyone has their own preferences. It’s Howard; he should be with someone who fits his stature!”

“Milly is quite manipulative. It’s no surprise she managed to outshine Tatiana.”

“It looks like Milly and Tatiana don’t get along. Maybe she seduced Howard intentionally?”

Due to the clever spin of online trolls, everyone was convinced that Milly used her beauty to lure Howard. People thought that Howard, being a tech giant, should have opted for a fellow mogul rather than a celebrity like Milly. They considered his choice superficial, not befitting his status.

For a time, the internet was awash with criticism directed at Milly and Edge Entertainment. Isabella was certainly aware of the situation. She had not been fond of Milly initially, but her opinion shifted after Milly saved her and Andrew.

At the same time, Andrew was investigating the individual who helped them neutralize the bomb. It turned out this person was an assassin, likely connected to the Serpentine Players.

Serpentine Players weren’t exactly known for their benevolence or heroic deeds. Their only link to them was Milly.

Isabella summoned Milly to her office.

Dressed in her usual simple T-shirt and pants, Milly still looked striking.

“You wanted to see me, Miss Patton?”

“Was the person who saved me and Andrew connected to you?” Isabella inquired.

Milly remained silent.

Isabella didn’t push for an answer. Sometimes, silence spoke volumes.

“What are you really after?” Isabella found it hard to read the intentions of the woman before her.

Milly fixed her gaze on Isabella. “If I keep quiet, you’ll always doubt me.”

“That’s correct,” Isabella said. “I can’t allow Howard to be with someone whose background is a mystery.”

Milly was quiet for a moment, then she pulled a bill from her pocket and set it on Isabella’s desk.

Isabella picked it up. It was money, but its significance was unclear. Upon turning it over, she noticed writing on the bill. It was clearly her brother’s handwriting:

“Live a good life.”

Thoughts raced through Isabella’s mind. The bill was issued many years ago and was no longer used. It seemed to be from fifteen years ago. How did a fifteen-year-old bill with Howard’s handwriting end up with Milly?

Their mother had often mentioned how compassionate Howard was as a child, regularly helping with charitable projects. Back then, the country was less stable, with numerous slums that were often the target of these charitable works.

Isabella’s hands shook slightly. Suddenly, it all made sense to her. She placed the bill back on the desk and slid it toward Milly. “You once rescued me, and you’re an assassin,” Isabella said slowly.

Life was tough for those who grew up in the slums. She remembered the slums she visited as a child; they were filthy and disorderly. Many children there didn’t survive to adulthood. Those who did were not ordinary.

Howard might find it hard to believe that the girl he helped as a child grew up to join the Serpentine Players and became a top assassin.

Milly carefully put the bill back in her pocket. “I won’t harm him,” she said calmly. She could have chosen not to reveal her identity to Isabella, but if Isabella interfered, Howard would feel troubled.

She didn’t want Howard to be troubled, so she chose to tell the truth. This was a very dangerous move; Isabella now saw Milly in a new light.

“But since your associates have found you, the Serpentine Players will eventually find you too. Will they allow you to stay by Howard’s side?”

“No. If they find me, I’ll leave,” Milly replied. “I’ll come back after I leave the organization.”

Leaving the Serpentine Players was extremely difficult. After the organization had raised you, they expected loyalty in return. How could they even think of leaving?

“If you need help, you can come to me,” Isabella said, taking out a badge.

Milly’s eyes showed rare surprise as she looked at the writing on it. “You are…”

Isabella put the badge away. “I’ll handle the online rumors about you and Howard. My initial judgment is that there are a lot of trolls involved, and they’re all hired by Tatiana. I’ll sign you up for a variety show. Tatiana is in it, and it’s mainly about showcasing talent. Do you have any talents? Playing music, chess, painting, singing, or dancing?”

“I’m good at all of those,” Milly replied.

Isabella was convinced. Assassins had to master various skills, including how to act, which explained why Milly was such a convincing actress.

“Alright, head back and get ready. You’ll start filming tomorrow.”

Once Milly departed, Isabella rang up Andrew to fill him in.

“Leaving the Serpentine Players isn’t straightforward,” Andrew said.

“Indeed, so let’s hope they can’t find Milly. Sweetie, I’m relying on you,” Isabella said warmly.

The way Isabella called Andrew “sweetie” had a soft and endearing quality that touched Andrew deeply. His eyes twinkled with amusement, but his voice carried a playful scold as he said, “So, you only use that nickname when you need something? I would like to hear it more often.”

“That’s just too cheesy for me. I’m not doing it,” Isabella replied firmly.

Andrew, a bit disappointed, scratched his nose. “Alright. By the way, I got a call from Waylon yesterday.”

“Waylon?”

“Yes. He’s feeling the strain of constantly being overseas and missing out on time with everyone.”

Isabella pictured Waylon’s troubled expression when he spoke of his difficulties, which she found slightly amusing. Waylon had been overseas for quite some time. She phoned him, and as soon as he answered, he began venting.

Their conversation was lengthy. As they were about to say goodbye, someone came to visit Waylon.

Upon spotting this person, Waylon panicked. “Oh no, why is he here again?”

“What’s the matter?”

“Ah, I can’t talk right now. She’s been hounding me a lot lately.” Waylon appeared genuinely bothered.

“Don’t you just turn her down? Is there anyone you can’t refuse?” Isabella asked.

“It’s complicated. She’s the boss’s daughter.”

Clearly, Waylon was very charming if even the boss’s daughter showed interest in him. Waylon’s company was a leading business in the nation, and Tatiana also belonged to that company.

Isabella joked, “If you end up with her, could you inherit the company?”

“Cut it out. I don’t like her at all. If this continues, I’m going to lose my mind!” Waylon sounded genuinely upset.

Isabella couldn’t help but find Waylon’s predicaments amusing, making it difficult for her to feel sorry for him. “Hang in there, Waylon. If it gets too much, maybe try finding a girlfriend.”

“I’ll consider it if the opportunity arises.”

Then they ended the call.

As time moved on, the next day arrived. The recording for the variety show started. Upon Milly’s arrival at the venue, Tatiana was noticeably taken aback.
