He was already ticked off.
“Is that important?”
Calvin asked.
“Just Anabell, she misses me.”
he smiled and got up.
“Did she get to meet that author she likes?”
Calvin asked him.
“Mm, she did, signed her book a second time as well.”
Wil nodded with a smile.
“Get a pic with her, isn’t that what they all do, so their fans can share it on all their social media and get some free publicity too?”
he asked.
“Not that she said,”
Wil stated, as they disembarked the plane and walked across the air strip to the waiting car. He hoped not because if she had and shared it, s**t was going to hit the fan when Calvin saw it, and he would at some point he was sure of it. Calvin was likely to look at this woman as if she was just another one of those that were out there trying to get their hands on his money.
Though from all Anabell said about this Marilyn Riddley over the years, she was a bit of a recluse, always had been. He even recalled Marrin stating it. Though his brain was ticking on that now, they’d gone to the same college Marrin had told them that herself. He recalled that. He wondered if he could check that out. He knew which college Marrin had gone to. rtainly weren’t any of the
He also knew there were no pictures of Marilyn Riddley or not back then. The back covers or with any of the author bios in any of her books. He’d have to read that and see what it said. It might actually state where she studied or lived, if she was married, single or had a family. That would depend on what she, as the author, was happy for her fans to know about her.
It was a quiet drive into the city and Calvin was already on the phone, so Wil took a moment to google this author. There was no picture of her. All it stated was that she lived in the state of Virginia, with her two sons and enjoyed being out on the nature trails when not writing. Okay, so that was making him lean towards her, definitely not being Marrin. The woman didn’t live here in Texas and had two children.
There was no mention of a husband or where she’d grown up, what college she attended, so it was likely she grew up in Virginia as well. Though Marrin had gone to college in California, at Caltech, that was a curiosity to him now, and he wondered what Marilyn had studied at Caltech. How did those two know each other?
He checked the study options at Caltech and was still perusing them when Calvin stated
“Why are you looking at that?”
“Curious about what one can study there is all?”
His Obsession Begins
“Why?”
Calvin frowned at him now.
That was a good question, and how did he explain that one to Calvin?
“I was just reading something, and the link took me there, so I’m just perusing.”
He shrugged closed out of it, like it didn’t matter, but yes, one could minor in or major in English at Caltech he’d seen.
“How’s that deal coming along?”
he asked changing the subject.
“Annoyingly slow is how, they state they’ve got another buyer and want to see if I’ll match their offer.”
“Ah, playing you off each other to get them a better price.”
Wil nodded, that was nothing unusual.
“Yes, however, I can’t find this other buyer. I think they’ve dummied up a company and are trying to play me.”
Calvin nodded.
“It wouldn’t be the first time,”
he murmured.
“Ah, but you look into every deal like a blood hound.”
Wil chuckled.
“Yes, I’ll not buy it at all if I find out that’s what they’re doing and it does look like it. I’ll have to do more research.”
“Long night for you then, my friend.”
“Yes, and then I’ll hand it over to you, and it’ll be on for the long??aul fight.”
Calvin smirked.
“Just say you’re backing out, and the other company can purchase it. Stop trying to catch every crook out there that approaches you. See it for what it is, dismiss it, and Calvin just walk away like other business people do. You have to learn to let go of things, my friend.”
He saw the annoyed look on Calvin’s face now as he stared at him. He wasn’t a stupid man, very intelligent business??ise, just not so much emotionally. Calvin understood Wil’s underlying meaning, for him to let go of Marrin. Calvin ignored his comment and just turned to look out the window, refused to state anything on the matter of letting anything go. It was unlikely he was going to unless his hands were actually forced to do so. There was only one person on the planet could do that, Wil thought, the very one Calvin was desperately hunting for and not having any luck in finding.
Cal
He was in Boston a week later to attend the PAX East, a gaming expo, to do some networking and see what new talent was out there among the indie game creators; that was his target domain, looking to see if any wanted a big backer or to come and join his team at C.R. Technology. Where they would have the hardware to create whatever game they felt like.
He had his own team here showcasing their latest game as well. The developers were all there to talk about their game and people were playing the demo, and they were getting feedback. It was going well so far. He was networking himself, and perusing the other games that were here at the expo. He had brought two dozen of his techs to this place, and they were spread out doing what he was doing.
Looking to scout talent as well as see what this year’s best indie games were, he might have a big company, but he let those game developers that wanted to work on their own do just that. Create and develop their own unique games, regardless of the platform or genre. The gaming industry was the place to be.
He was taking a stroll a few days into the expo, getting away from it all, just letting his mind clear, and had gone outside to get coffee. He’d been looking at his phone checking emails when he heard a woman’s laugh, and it sounded familiar to him, Calvin looked up instinctively, and for the briefest moment in his peripheral vision, he thought he had seen Marrin. The woman in question was passed him before he could tell or not, but she’d not so much as stopped and looked at him.
