Sophia shifted her gaze away from him as she felt her cheeks wet. She touched her cheek and realized that she was crying. She could not understand whether she was crying after learning of Bryan’s horrible crime or whether she was feeling terrible for Victor.

“I will never forgive him. My only desire is to destroy him,” Victor muttered in fury.

Sophia looked at him. While wiping her tears, she said,

“So you were not mateless, but he killed your mate.”

He turned to her. His eyes turned back to black as he controlled his rage.

“I am sorry if I was rude to you. I did not want to lose my temper.”

She nodded her head as she looked away from him. “S-So you really want to marry me because I am his mate?”

“No.”

She gazed at him when she heard his reply. “Then why?”

He took her hand on his and replied with a soft tone.

“When I met you the first day, you were close to my pack’s border. I saw you and felt attracted to you. You are different from others. Not like the women who can do anything to end up in my bed. I really like you, Sophia. I can’t claim that I love you because I can’t lie like Bryan Morrison.”

She frowned at him. “How do you know he said that to me?”

“Otherwise, why would you talk about not marrying me?”

She lowered her head and mumbled,

“I know nothing about you. Sometimes, I felt days running really fast without knowing you.”

While grabbing her hand, he pulled her along with him. “What do you want to know about me?”

“Everything,” Sophia replied while looking at him.

He took a deep breath and walked with Sophia ahead.

“I was an unwanted child from childhood. My father never loved me when I was a kid. My mother was sick, but he always ignored her, and when my mom died, he came home with another woman and a child. He cheated on my mother, and their daughter was the proof. My grandfather rejected the woman because he harbored a persistent suspicion that my father had murdered my mother. My grandfather really loved me a lot. So he refused to accept another Luna for my father as he decided to give the throne to me and not any other heir of my father. But when he tested Mila’s DNA and found the result, he had to declare her mother as the Luna of our pack.”

Sophia paused, prompting Victor to also halt. He turned to her and asked,

“Do you want to know more?”

She felt really bad for Victor. She sensed that Victor’s childhood had left him broken. How could his father do that to his mother and him?

“When did Bryan kill your mate, and why?”

Victor’s eyes darkened as he said, “Five years ago. Let’s not talk about it. I don’t want to remember that again.”

“I know it’s painful for you. But why did he do that?”

“He wanted me to lose all my strength because he feared I would grow stronger than him. So he killed my mate to weaken my wolf.”

Sophia did not know how to react. But no matter how cold she had become, she could not lose the part of her heart that was still soft. She felt sad for Victor.

She held his hand and whispered, “I’m sorry for what happened to you. Even though everyone treated you badly, you still managed to maintain your composure in their presence. Your dad and Bryan will both get their karma. I believe they will.”

She felt the hatred in her heart that had piled up for Bryan increase so much that it filled all the space. Now, there was no way she would feel even a little bad if he got hurt.

“Do you know why he wants to stop this wedding? It’s because he knows if we actually pair up, we can destroy him. He is afraid of my actions. He can show his anger in front of me, but he can’t kill me. If he kills me, it will cause problems for his throne, as he has already killed my mate and has been banished from my pack.”

The wind touched her body, giving her shivers. But she did not feel anything inside. It was as if she had lost all of the feelings that were left inside for Bryan.

“I want to marry you because I like you. Don’t you want to marry me?” he asked, looking at her.

She gulped as the question now felt heavier in her heart. However, it was not as tough for her as before. She looked into his eyes and nodded at him.

“I will marry you. That man should be punished. He killed your mate and then wanted to cage his own mate as a mistress. He is a cruel man who deserves to die.”

The day was bright, but Sophia’s mood was totally opposite. It did not look like her wedding was knocking on the door.

She was broken once again after learning about Bryan last night. The way Victor expressed himself really hurt her heart. She could feel his pain about his mate.

He said he used to love his mate, and he missed her. Sophia could relate to him. She also used to love her mate. Her mate was alive but did not value her, whereas Victor’s mate was killed by someone else.

She was shocked to know that Bryan could kill someone’s mate without even a war.

Victor told her last night that it was not even a war but a conspiracy in which Bryan killed his mate. The reason was that he did not want Victor to get stronger than him. He was insecure about his powers.

“Sophia, come down. Alpha Victor sent dresses for you,” her mother told her as she opened the door to her room.

Sophia was sitting on her bed while thinking about last night, so when she heard her mother’s voice, she turned to her.

Tonight, Victor was throwing a party in a club for all the youngsters. It was a pre-wedding party before his wedding, and all of his officials would join him too. He sent Sophia dresses for that party.

“Mom.”

Her mother looked away from her. Sophia frowned when she noticed her mother looked paler than before.

She got out of bed and walked toward her. She hugged her mother and asked,

“Mom, are you okay?”

Her mother placed her hand on her back and stroked her. “I am fine, my dear. Are you okay? Is everything fine? You said you liked that man, and that was the reason you wanted to marry him. But why don’t you look happy?”

Sophia broke the hug and cupped her mother’s cheeks.

“Mom, I am happy. I got a man who has a soft heart. He may look aggressive, but he is not terrible from the inside.”

Her mother looked at her carefully to see if she was lying to her. But when she saw Sophia’s gentle smile, she sighed in relief.

“I hope you will get all of your happiness. Your brother and I protected you from every danger from outside because we loved you. Your brother never let you face the world like other girls usually did. So, in the future, it may be difficult for you to understand all the people around you.”

Sophia lowered her head while thinking, ‘Mom, it’s getting difficult for me now too. I can’t understand how people think so differently from me. I always wanted to love them, but they always broke me. This world is not for someone with a fragile heart but for cold-hearted people. I have to be like them.’

When her mother noticed her silence, she caressed her hair and spoke.

“I want to see you smile all the time.”

Sophia nodded her head and hugged her mother again. She felt calm when she embraced her mother. She loved her a lot.

“Mom, where is brother?” Sophia inquired as she headed downstairs with her mother.

“He is out of the pack.”

Sophia paused and asked, “Out of the pack? He knows my wedding is in four days. Then why?”

“Don’t worry. He said he would be back in three days.”

“That’s a relief.”

Sophia watched many dresses lying on the couch in the living room. All of them were party dresses. She chose the red one.

When it was time for the party,

Sophia went back to her room to get ready.

When she put on the dress, she saw how the dress hugged her body perfectly. She put on makeup to conceal her broken look. She heard of someone’s death, and it was not easy for her to forget it so soon.

She put on red high heels and left the room. Her mother told her that she looked beautiful in the dress.

She thanked her and exited her house. She saw a car waiting for her outside.

Victor’s driver opened the door for her. When she got in, she noticed Victor was not inside. The driver told her that Victor would meet her directly at the club.

In an hour, Sophia arrived at the club. She realized that it was the club where she had been before. It was the most expensive one, and only Alphas could afford to throw a party here.

She went inside the club and was immediately embraced by Sara and Nolan.

Sophia was surprised that Victor cared for her so much that he invited her friends too. Her mood lightened, and she tried to be a party person for tonight.

She felt a hand grab her wrist, and when she turned, she found Victor.

His gaze moved from her face to her dress, then returned to her face.

“I never thought you would look this hot in this dress, darling.”

She blushed as she did not expect him to compliment her like that. She thought he would be upset since he had talked about his past. But then she realized it had been five years since his mate died. He let go of that woman’s memories, but he did not let go of the person who killed her.

“Come, let me introduce you to my officials.”
