me. I have made you mine, and I will kill anyone who touches you in any manner that only I am allowed to. I say, my voice carrying through the room to make sure that Merikh and Teiran understand me fully.

She nods slightly, her breath shaking as she tilts her chin up and presses a soft kiss to my lips, leaving me breathless. Then she excuses herself from our little bubble, leaving me with the two raging beasts to explain the plan that is formulating in my head.

“So, there is to be a ceremony?” Teiran asks, a brow arched in curiosity.

“Yes.” I nod, moving over to Merikh who looks like if he clenches his jaw any harder, his teeth will grind to dust.

“Brother,”

“Oh, now you are going to brother me?” He scoffs, rolling his eyes.

“I need you to back me up.” I tell him and he exhales through his nose, his eyes casting to the ground as he shakes his head slowly.

“Damn it, Hayes,” he growls out before he licks his lips and glares at me. “I need a little more than that, brother.”

I grin at how he uses the word ‘brother’ like it may be an insult, but I realize I can’t blame him. Things have been sour with us until the few days ago I arrived and felt more myself than I had when I first met Leandra.

“We are going to kill the Dragon King when he throws a fit at the ceremony.” I shrug, looking at Teiran, waiting for him to protest, but instead he chuckles and shoves his hands into his pockets.

“You won’t last a minute against him, Hayes.” He sighs. “I can admit you are an admirable fighter, but you versus the dragon king? Your victory isn’t just unlikely, it’s impossible.”

I snort a laugh.

“I’m not sure when you heard me use the term ‘I’ here, Teiran. I said ‘we’.”

His brows pull together in thought, and then he tuts.

“I do suppose my plan to kill him on my own will likely be much more difficult. Perhaps making this a team effort will be for the best. Us three versus him.”

I shake my head and roll my eyes.

“There is no way in hell I will leave it to chance. Flora has volunteered to help, and Colette will refuse to be left out of this as well.”

Merikh growls at the mention of his mate’s name and I scowl at him.

“Let’s not pretend Luna is still the same weak woman she was when you whisked her away, Merikh. She is powerful beyond many sirens and werewolf’s capabilities. She will be able to protect us and keep herself safe at the same time.”

“I know just how strong she is.” He bites out. “Doesn’t mean I have to like the plan that involves the mother of my children in harm’s way.”

“I am sure she would say she feels the same way about you.” I remind him and he grunts, looking away.

“You two can argue about that later, but I feel I need to have an idea of what is coming for the ceremony I need to be the center of,” Teiran interjects. “Chaos,” I grin, tilting my head. “Lots of chaos.”

*Kyra*

Teiran sits on the edge of the bed, glaring at me from across the room. He has said nothing since we walked through the doors, and I am too afraid to bring anything up. It was always his plan to kill his father and take the throne. But perhaps it happening this quickly, and not entirely at his hands has him second guessing his loyalties.

He exhales deeply, placing both hands behind him as he leans back, his head falling so his face is gazing at the ceiling.

“You caved so easily,” he mutters the words, pain lacing his voice. My brows knit together as I frown.

“I never lied to you about my feelings for him.” I remind him and he lets out a dry chuckle, one that doesn’t find any of this funny, but he has no other way to react but other to laugh through it all.

“You and I made a promise,” He says, dropping his gaze to lock on me, pinning me in place as guilt grips me.

“I hurt your feelings?” I ask him, and he frowns.

“Are you that dense, or have I been lacking in my actions and how I treat you?” He asks, a look of disbelief on his face as he scoffs, looking away.

“Teiran, I am sorry I hurt you. But if I am being completely honest, did you expect me to love you when the only man who has always had a part of me is also the missing half of my soul?”

He looks away, his lips twitching, and I realize that he never intended to let Hayes live.

“Heavens…” I mutter, my chest aching at the thought.

He looks at me, then he leans forward, his elbows resting on his knees.

“Someone would have needed to take the fall.” He whispers, but I hear every word as if he were saying it with a resounding confidence.

“You were going to take me from him and then frame him?” I ask, anger rising.

“It was not an easy decision for me to make,” He says, his eyes filled with pleading as I scoff and pace away from him, laughing a sad, sarcastic laugh.

“You said this would end the war, that it would be better for everyone.” I hiss at him.

“It will, but if you think the dragons would want their king’s killer on the throne, then you are not using your brains, Kyra.” He retorts and I growl low in my chest.

“You want to be the hero but you’re just like him, like your half mad, blood crazed father!”

He bolts up, rushing over to me as he pushes me into the wall with his forearm across my chest.

“I am not the hero!” He bites out in my face, his breath fanning over my face. “Here you are all angry with me when your selfish mate claimed you as his own, ruining this chance at peace. You are upset with me over my tactics where I ruin one life and yet he very well could ruin hundreds of thousands and yet I am the bad guy?”

“He asked permission.” I reach up, shoving at him, pushing him back a few inches before I stalk him down in overwhelming anger. “Hayes asked me if I wanted to be saved, and I said yes!”

My chest heaves up and down as I glare at him, his eyes skirting over my face as he seems to shrink before me. Then he nods.

“Then you are the villain in this story.” He whispers.

“A title I happily take as all my other options were stripped from me. It was idiotic for me to think I could go through with this, so moronic to even try. I am choosing him, Teiran.”

“You claim all your options were stripped, but you agreed to this! You lived with me, laughed with me, what changed?”

“I didn’t know he wanted me. But I know now, and I can’t… I can’t give him up ever again.”

He arches a brow, a smirk growing on his lips.
