Reuben

“How the fuck did that news get leaked?!”

I growled, throwing the laptop off my desk that was playing the news about my impending marriage as the packhouse echoed with roars. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I managed to keep my tenuous control on my sanity enough to return to the packhouse from the hospital after Willow had talked about rejecting me.

“I don’t know, Reuben,”

Oran stood with a stern expression on the side, clearly disappointed in himself. “I’m also not sure how a marriage that was buried deep in the papers for years suddenly bounces back in the news. Come to think of it, your marriage and finances are only known to those among our pack. More importantly I noticed that the news about the wedding only leaked when Willow reappeared in the Emerald Bright Pack,”

he highlighted the point that I had already noticed.

For the last six years this matter had been laying in wait unbothered by anyone but suddenly with Willow’s appearance last night it was revealed at the worst possible time when Willow misconstrued everything.

“Luckily it did not reveal the bride’s name or…”

he bit his tongue when I glared at him.

“I don’t fucking care what the news revealed or what not, Oran!”

I walked over to him with heavy steps, “What I know is after watching this news Willow would never believe me that I never intend to marry anyone. Even if I give her thousands of proofs she would think I am lying and deceiving her. This news have fucked up my relationship with Willow to the point that she has agreed to return to the Emerald Bright Pack only to reject me,”

I roared, my wolf howling in my mind like an insane beast in the name of rejection.

“What?”

Oran’s face blanched as his whole body grew cold at the news. I turned away from him, bracing both my hands on the desk. Oran rushed over to my side in panic and horror, “What will you do now, Reuben?”

he asked.

I clenched my fists and lowered my eyes to glare at the old paper from six years ago with emotionless eyes.

Six Years Ago

‘If this continues he will die, A man’s shaking, fearful voice echoed in the surroundings.

‘I cannot believe that he is still alive after surviving a year of such torture!’ another man whispered.

Their eyes were unable to bear the sight of the countless cuts, wounds, and whip marks that riddled my body. Blood oozed from my wounds mixing with the mud that coated my body, turning it into a muddy brown purple mixture. Both of my hands were tied with silver chains while my knees were forced to stay on the cold dirty ground. I kept my eyes closed as my head hung down against my chest as their whispers entered my ears.

‘Shut the fuck up!’ The presence of the third individual in the room silenced them with his cold, warning filled stare. ‘Why the fuck has he not waken up yet? You’re sure you did not make any mistakes, right? If he dies then all of us will be dead as well, he demanded of the other two men. Their faces turned pale with the man’s statement when faced with the prospects of their future taking place in the depths of hell if the man’s suspicions came true.

Startled, one of the men picked up a bucket of water only to throw it in my face. All three of their heartbeats intensified, their eyes were fixed on the movement of my eye lashes, and once I opened my eyes they finally let out the breath that they had been holding.

‘Alpha Reuben, can you see me?’ Vin, squatting in front of me, asked carefully. I just gave him a blank stare.

A slight panic raised in his heart as he moved on to his next question, “Alpha, do you know who I am?”

He desperately looked into my eyes but only got silence in return.

‘Did he finally forget everything?”

‘Is this all coming to an end?’

The two other warriors whispered to each other. Listening to them, a smile came over Vin’s lips as he pulled a paper out of his pocket.

‘Alpha… sign it!’ he put the paper on the ground in front of me that he had been bringing with him every single day for the past year. ‘Agree to this marriage and you will become the Alpha of our pack. Who would willingly pass up such a golden opportunity, no?’ his eyes shone when I did not reply this time either. His eyes shone with my repeated silence. “Open these silver shackles!”

he loudly ordered the two warriors in the room. “The Alpha is ready to sign!!”

His voice was full of eagerness.

He desperately looked for the pen in his pocket, “Just sign it and you will be free to leave…”

he put a gold cast fountain pen in my hand.

I glanced at the pen as Vin drew closer to me, “Alpha…sign it…

Before he could say another word, I raised my hand and stabbed the pen in his throat, then in his heart, and finally in the middle of his head. He could not even make a noise or struggle a bit. The two wolves who had opened my silver chains a second ago froze on the spot in horror as I dropped Vin’s body dead to the ground.

Picking up the paper from the ground, I glanced at my name as the new Alpha blankly and thumbed at it with my bloody finger.

When the warriors guarding the prison saw me thumbing through the papers, they knelt on the ground for their new Alpha. The Alpha of Emerald Bright Pack, “Alpha….”

I stared at the open door with emotionless eyes. They were bound by the magic that was connected to this arranged marriage and new Alpha agreement paper. Only after my thumb touched the magical contract would the cell to the door unseal itself, so that I would be able to leave.

Dropping the papers on the ground, I walked out of the prison naked and bleeding all over.

“Why are you not saying anything, Reuben,”

Oran asked me again. “Willow has only agreed to live with you. You are getting Willow back but she is coming soley for a rejection ceremony, Reuben!”

he said in a panicked breath, “Will you reject, Willow?”

he asked.

“Reject Willow?”

I murmured, looking at the large portrait of her on the wall in front of me. I raised my hand and touched her lips, “The thought has never crossed my mind and it never will….”

Willow

“Wyatt and Lori’s father is Alpha Reuben Emerald? You are soulmates?!”

Laying on the hospital bed, Alpha Benjamin stared at me with wide eyes and his mouth agape. In the werewolf world, there was no one that didn’t know Reuben. He was the apex predator, ruthless when dealing with his enemies. He was the Alpha that was at the top of the food chain. The revelation of my past seemed more shocking to Alpha Benjamin than Sky’s gambling away the Wade Moon Pack had been.

Alpha Benjamin had regained consciousness a day after his argument with Sky, his mental state was worse than anyone could have imagined. With the pack having been gambled away it left more than 400 pack members facing homelessness, he couldn’t stay calm. The loss of a lifetime’s worth of his hard work left him frustrated, furious, and cursing himself for raising a snake-like son for 26 years, only to be betrayed in the end.

Thankfully, Sky didn’t show up at the hospital for a visit. Otherwise, Alpha Benjamin might have succumbed to anger. As it stood his wolf teetered on the brink of insanity and even the doctors struggled to approach him. Wyatt and Lori were the only ones that managed to reach Alpha Benjamin without getting hurt. Their innocence softened his heart and eased his agitation.

With Alpha Benjamin in a more stable state, I explained to him how the pack ended up in the Emerald Bright Pack’s possession, at the same time I discussed my plan with him on how to regain control of the Wade Moon Pack. Of course this meant that I had to reveal the truth about Reuben and our mate bond. Th

“I apologize for keeping the truth hidden from you for all these years, but the bond with Reuben posed a potential threat to my children and their future. However, now that I need your permission to depart from the Wade Moon Pack and join the Emerald Bright Pack, it’s necessary for me to reveal it to you. As I mentioned, Reuben is willing to return the papers to you, Alpha. No pack member will be left homeless as long as I move in with him. Please don’t worry, I promise to resolve this issue,”

I assured.

Alpha Benjamin’s surprised expression softened as he regarded me, “Willow, I won’t inquire as to why you left Alpha Reuben six years ago or what transpired in the past that led to such a drastic decision while you were pregnant. But are you truly prepared to make the sacrifice that returning to your soulmate for the sake of our pack will entail?”

“It’s nothing compared to what you’ve done for me, Alpha,”
