“You okay?” he asked, sitting up as well.
“No,” I said. “I’m not okay, Zane. Do you remember we have finals in a week?”
He blinked at me, then pursed his lips. “Not really, no.”
“Well, we do.” I turned to face him, a frown on my face. “Do you want to go to school, Zane?”
His eyebrows pulled together. “School?”
“Yes.”
“Tomorrow?”
“No.”
“Then?”

I swallowed, looking away from him, then meeting his gaze again. “Right now,” I said quietly.
He didn’t miss a beat. “Okay, let’s go.” He climbed out of bed, already putting his shoes on.
I remained sitting, frowning at him.
“What?” he asked, throwing on a shirt.
“You didn’t even question it,” I said softly.
“I don’t need to,” he replied. “I know what you’re looking for, Lia. And I think I need the same thing.”
A tired laugh let my lips, and I stared at him for a moment, until he smiled.
“What?” He chuckled.
I opened my arms like a child asking to be picked up. “Just take me away from it all.”
Zane was in front of me at once, scooping me into his arms and making his way out of our room. He even grabbed a jacket for me before stepping out the door.
I gazed at him, my arms around his neck even though I didn’t need to hold him. I trusted he’d never drop me. But I wanted as much of me touching him as possible.
He carried me down the stairs and out of the pack house, before walking to his car and getting in with me still in his lap. grinned. “You’re gonna drive with me on you?”
“Yeah,” he shrugged, kissing me quickly, “why not?”
I chuckled. “Because you might just crash the car.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” he replied, placing a kiss onto my forehead. “I have sharp enough senses to be lost in you and still ensure your safety.”
He grabbed the seatbelt and put it on, strapping me against his chest.
“Ow,” I laughed, “this is uncomfortable.”
“I know. It’s okay. Bear it.”
“That’s so rude,” I muttered, grinning.
“You chose your bully instead of your saviour, love. You should’ve expected this much.” He winked, before firing the engine. “Now hold on tight. I’m feeling a little speedy.”
I smiled and tightened my hold on him, pressing my body to his chest even harder, resting my head against his shoulder.
Zane pulled us out of the parking lot of his pack house, and then really stepped on the accelerator, also rolling the windows down.
The cool night air blew my hair into his eyes, making him squeal. “Hey, I don’t actually wanna crash, love.”
“Sorry,” I laughed, quickly pulling my hair away from his face and tucking it all into my shirt. “Better?” I asked, hugging him again.
“Much better,” he replied, quickly kissing my cheek,
I smiled, my cheeks almost hurting.
“Don’t you think you kiss me way too often?”
Zane scoffed, rolling his eyes. “There’s no such thing. It’s actually never enough.”
“What did I do-“
“To deserve me?”
“Yeah,” I whispered.
“Nothing at all. Because you didn’t have to. Your mere existence was enough to make me fall head over heels for you.”
“If our bond snaps, the words left me before I could stop them, “for any crazy reason-would you still feel the same way about me?”
Zane was silent for a moment, his eyes on the road.
A smile took over his lips then.
“The bond doesn’t even matter anymore, my love. I love you. Everything about you. Mate bond or not.”
-LIA’S POV-
I don’t know what we were thinking, showing up at school at two in the morning like it was a normal thing to do. Maybe we weren’t thinking. Or maybe we just needed something ordinary. Something simple. Like a place that didn’t smell like wolves or magic or secrets.
Zane parked the car at the back, and we stared at the tall school gate together.
“Locked,” he muttered.
I turned to him, raising a brow. “Since when has that ever stopped you?”
He grinned. “Never.”
Before I could even reach for the metal bars, Zane pulled me into his arms again.
“I can climb,” I said, half-laughing as I held onto his shoulders.
“Yeah, but it’s more fun like this,” he replied, and just like that, he jumped-one powerful push and we were over the gate, landing softly on the other side.
I blinked up at him, amused. “You know, I could do that too
Myself.”
Zane smirked, walking backwards while still holding me. “This is love, my love. Consider it an act of service.” into the building, quet cror
We made enough that our footsteps echoed slightly. The lights were off, but some moonlight streamed in through the glass panels, guiding us.
When we reached the library, I nudged him gently. “Alright. Time to study.”
He blinked. “What?”
“Exams, Zane.
He groaned dramatically, throwing his head back. “This is not what I thought you dragged me here for.”
“Dragged you?” I grinned. “You carried me over the
Adams.” gate,
He narrowed his eyes playfully. “Still thought we’d at least make out in the lab or something.”
“We still have time,” I offered, pushing the door open and stepping inside.
It was cold and smelled like old paper, but it was familiar. Comforting, even.
I pulled him towards one of the corner tables and dropped my bag down. “Chemistry. Sit.”
Zane slumped into the chair, pouting like a child. “Fine. But I’m only doing this because I love you.”
“That’s the spirit,” I said sweetly, grabbing my notes and sliding them over to him.
We went over a few reaction equations, and I could tell he was only half-listening.
“What happens when you mix you mix sodium with water?” I asked.
“It explodes.”
