In that moment, the tension and fear melted from Isabella’s face.
Andrew turned to her and said, “Sweetheart, you truly have a knack for this.”
“Darling, the same goes for you,” Isabella smiled.
“I can assure you that Jada has never suspected you were putting on an act.” Andrew gently stroked Isabella’s head with his big hand.
“Well, she believes that I don’t know those hooligans were hired by her,” Isabella said casually as she turned on her phone, revealing a message of comfort from Jada. Shaking his head, Andrew remarked, “The calculations you women make rival those of the sharpest minds in the business world.”
Andrew was amazed by these two women’s acting skills.
“So, Mr. Klein, be kind to me. Otherwise, I can’t promise I won’t resort to these tactics against you.” Isabella gazed at Andrew with a smile.
“If you want to take me on, I’m more than ready to face it,” Andrew said, gazing at Isabella with deep affection. His dark eyes, like a stormy sea, seemed on the verge of sweeping her away.
Isabella was left utterly speechless.
Alright, Andrew’s sweet talk had hit its peak, and she found herself at a loss for words.
After giving a cursory response to Jada, Isabella went home with Andrew.
While Andrew was preparing dinner in the kitchen, Isabella was reclining on the sofa, scrolling through her phone. Suddenly, she came across a news alert. She dashed into the kitchen.
“What’s going on, sweetheart?” Clad in an apron, Andrew turned to look at Isabella.
“Jeffry’s dead,” Isabella said.
“Jeffry is dead?” Andrew was taken aback but quickly added, “Edgar’s tactics are ruthless.”
Isabella pursed her lips. The news hit hard. She had intended to use Jeffry to gather incriminating evidence against Edgar, never imagining Jeffry might be killed.
“No one has any incriminating evidence against Edgar yet, so he won’t drop his guard. I’ll keep a close watch on him. Arasport is my domain, and I’ll ensure he doesn’t get away with any misdeeds,” Andrew said, turning off the stove. He then drew Isabella close, comforting her with a gentle embrace.
This protective side of Andrew gave Isabella a profound sense of safety.
“It’s really wonderful to have you by my side,” she murmured, clinging to his waist.
“I’m the fortunate one,” Andrew responded. “Don’t be upset. Want to help me finish up the dinner?”
Isabella said, joining him by the stove.
Although Isabella helped, Andrew handled most of the cooking. She wasn’t as skilled in the kitchen and struggled to keep pace with him. Soon, a delightful scent filled the air.
As Isabella looked at the four dishes and soup that Andrew had prepared, her mouth watered. Despite having enjoyed his meals before, she was still amazed by how perfect he was in so many ways.
“How does it taste?” Andrew inquired, seeing how intently she was enjoying her food.
“Delicious!” Isabella exclaimed, not pausing even to look up.
Andrew smiled and added more food onto her plate. “Take it easy. If you enjoy it, I’ll cook for you every day.”
After dinner, Isabella headed home, feeling satisfied.
In the days that followed, Jada frequently messaged Isabella, inviting her to hang out. Isabella responded positively, and over time, they became closer.
At the research and development department of the Riggs Group, although Jada was only an intern, she was highly esteemed. Being Esteban’s daughter, she was dearly liked. Mara had visited the department several times to see Jada, noticeably ignoring Susan. The disparity in status between the Riggs sisters was evident.
Whenever Jada walked into the department, many greeted her warmly.
“Jada, I brought you some breakfast. It’s really good!”
“Thank you,” Jada responded with a warm smile.
The man held his chest and departed with a smile.
It was uncommon for someone of Jada’s social standing to be so gracious, and she quickly endeared herself to everyone. In contrast, Susan, who was more withdrawn, didn’t garner as much attention.
However, Susan was focused and remained dedicated to her work.
Even so, the Riggs Group had soared to new heights largely due to her mother’s expertise in making perfumes. Susan aspired to reach her mother’s level of success.
Jada occasionally observed Susan. She had noticed that Susan had a solid grasp of making perfumes, displaying some particularly innovative ideas. The company conducted a monthly evaluation of the research and development team to ensure standards were met. Tomorrow was the scheduled evaluation, and the pressure was on, as failure could result in dismissal. Jada smiled to herself, anticipating an eventful day tomorrow.
She took out her phone and texted Isabella.
They met that afternoon.
“What’s wrong?” Isabella inquired, noticing Jada’s red, puffy eyes.
When Jada saw Isabella’s sincere concern, her mouth briefly twisted into a smile, but she quickly subdued it. She shook her head and exhaled, seemingly burdened by her troubles.
Isabella sat next to her. “Jada, we’re friends, right? You once helped me out, so please, share what’s troubling you. I’m here to help.”
“Really? Isabella, that’s very kind of you. But I helped you because it was the right thing to do, not to get something in return,” Jada said softly.
“I understand that, and that’s why I believe you’re a genuinely good person,” Isabella replied, taking her hand. “You seem really troubled. What’s bothering you?”
Jada hesitated, then exhaled deeply. “I’m not sure if I should tell you. If Susan hears about this, she’ll explode.” Jada looked visibly distressed.
“Susan? What has she done now?” Isabella inquired, her voice laden with disdain.
Jada had been recounting various incidents involving Susan over the last few days, leading anyone who heard to possibly form a decidedly negative opinion of her. “She…” Jada paused again.
“Jada, you can trust me. I’m here for you,” Isabella urged softly.
Jada finally said, “At the company, she keeps claiming her skills surpass mine. And today, she deliberately spilled the perfume I prepared! Tomorrow is our department’s evaluation, and without my perfume, I might be dismissed. My father is quite strict; he won’t make exceptions, even for his own daughter.” Jada appeared visibly shaken.
“That’s terrible! She’s crossed a line!” Isabella exclaimed angrily. “I can’t believe she would stoop so low! Jada, don’t worry. We’ll make sure this is made right!”
“Isabella…”
Isabella smirked coldly and said, “Since she tried to stop you from passing the evaluation, I’ll make sure she is the one who can’t. She can have her own consequences.”
Jada’s heart raced. “Isabella, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Why not? She deserves it. Just wait, Jada!” Isabella said firmly.
Jada sighed, feeling defeated, and said, “Okay.”
Jada returned home.
That evening, she unwrapped a package in her bedroom. Inside was a small sample of perfume. She smiled faintly. It looked like Isabella had pulled it together.
Indeed, no one seemed immune to her influence, not even Isabella! Everything in Arasport should be hers! Jada looked up and laughed out loud.
Then, something crossed her mind, and she called Andrew.
She chose to make a video call.
“What’s up?” Andrew answered, his voice as chilly as always.
“I just noticed Isabella seems a bit off lately. Haven’t you spent time with her?” Jada playfully pouted and added, “I’ll forgive you if you let Isabella slip away.”
“Is she in a bad mood?”
“Yes, we had coffee this afternoon, and Isabella seemed unhappy. Andrew, you can’t just bury yourself in your work and ignore her. If you keep this up, she might just find a younger, more charming man who’s kinder and more considerate than you!” Jada said gently.
“What?” Andrew’s voice grew irritated.
