“Dad, Mom, it’s okay. I’m not tired,” Isabella replied with a smile. “What brings you two here?”
“Glenn left the company matters to Edgar to handle. Oh, you haven’t met him yet. I’ll introduce you to him if there’s a chance. He is the son of our company’s second biggest shareholder. He used to assist your brother, but now he is the general manager of the Arasport branch. I’m idle now, so your mom and I have time to visit you; we’re just resting anyway.”
Isabella could tell from Glenn’s words how much he trusted Edgar.
She was surprised, not expecting Edgar to show up before she could even start investigating him.
Suddenly, Isabella asked, “Dad, are you and Edgar close?”
Elaine laughed. “Close isn’t adequate to describe their relationship. They practically grew up together like brothers, sharing everything.”
“That’s right, Isabella. He’s good,” Glenn said solemnly.
Upon hearing this, Isabella held back the words she wanted to say.
Obviously, her parents thought highly of Edgar. And she hadn’t started her investigation yet. If Edgar was not the one who had had her switched, she would only ruin their relationship.
Moreover, her father and Edgar were running the Patton Group. Any tension between them could affect the entire company.
With this thought in mind, Isabella decided to investigate first before informing her parents.
Glenn and Elaine could see that Isabella was busy with her work. They didn’t disturb her too much, so they said goodbye to her and went on a date. Before leaving, Elaine reminded Isabella, “My dear, don’t work too hard.”
“Okay, Mom, I know,” Isabella said with a smile.
She watched as her parents walked away, feeling hopeful and grateful to have such loving parents. She aspired to be like them someday.
Later that afternoon, Isabella received a message from Andrew about Edgar.
The investigation into Edgar was complete.
Isabella reviewed Edgar’s background thoroughly. To the outside world, Edgar appeared as a highly respected gentleman, distinguished and graceful as Dane.
He had never married, dedicating his youth to the Patton Group, which earned him a lot of respect within the company. However, privately, as Andrew discovered, Edgar was a scum to the extreme.
He was a pedophile who also abused and killed animals. Andrew messaged, “Edgar has questionable tastes, but he’s smooth and leaves no traces. Some of what I found out proves it, but it’s definitely concerning.”
Isabella’s expression darkened. This man was really a scumbag!
Andrew added, “It seems Dalton really has a terrible son. Although Dalton is a hero and has dedicated his life to the company, divorcing his wife early and neglecting his son’s upbringing contributed to Edgar becoming what he is today.”
Isabella said, “A person with poor morals is just that way. Environment plays a role, but it’s not the main reason.”
Andrew agreed, “Exactly. Edgar is truly evil from the bottom of his heart.”
Isabella tapped on the table, frustrated. The real challenge was that Edgar was so careful he never left any evidence behind.
Suddenly, an idea popped into Isabella’s head. Maybe she could approach this situation through that particular person.
After finishing work, Isabella headed to the police station and later visited Susan.
“How was your first day at work?” Isabella asked.
Susan exhaled deeply. “Well, Jada is my sworn enemy. On my very first day, she signed a contract with the company, and they’re planning to collaborate on new products.”
“What? So, you could use my help!” Isabella said with a smile. “Natural Beauty is about to launch products.”
Susan blinked, surprised. “You want Natural Beauty to team up with me? That’s a big project! Our product team is small, and we’re already busy with the collaboration with Josie.”
“What are you afraid of? You’ve created excellent perfumes on your own before, right?” Isabella encouraged, her eyes conveying her belief in Susan’s abilities.
Indeed, Isabella was not just being supportive; Susan genuinely had a knack for this, as many customers had praised her fragrances.
Feeling a bit unsure yet uplifted by Isabella’s encouragement, Susan nodded and said, “Okay. I’ll do it.”
“The contract will be sent over tomorrow,” Isabella replied, then looked down to type a message on her phone to the president of Natural Beauty.
This unexpected opportunity felt almost too good to be true, leaving Susan slightly overwhelmed. “Isabella, is this what being spoiled feels like?”
“Feeling moved? There’s more to come in the future,” Isabella said with a grin.
“Isabella, if I were a man, I’d marry you!” Susan exclaimed, clearly touched and excited.
“Even though I’m a woman, I think we can think about it,” Isabella replied with a mischievous smile.
Susan quickly covered her eyes and said, “No, no! I can’t look at you, or I might actually start falling for women!”
Isabella burst into laughter.
Susan was truly adorable.
While they were chatting at a caf?, Susan asked Isabella where she had been.
With a sparkle in her eyes, Isabella whispered, “I went to see Jeffry.”
“Your former father? What made you visit him?” Susan asked, puzzled.
Isabella answered, “I needed to ask something.” She preferred to keep Susan out of the loop for now. Jeffry was the only lead she had.
Currently, Jeffry was desperate to find a way out of prison. He hadn’t reached out to Edgar previously because he didn’t know it was Edgar. But now that he was aware, he would definitely try to contact him.
Jeffry saw Edgar as his lifeline.
Otherwise, he faced spending the rest of his life behind bars.
If Edgar assisted Jeffry, Isabella could gather the evidence needed to prove that Edgar had switched her with another child as soon as she was born.
Since Isabella didn’t explain, Susan didn’t press further. They continued to chat in a pleasant atmosphere.
“Isabella! What a coincidence to see you here,” a voice suddenly interrupted.
It was Jada.
When Susan saw Jada, she instantly tensed up and gave her a cold stare. “What are you doing here?”
Jada appeared innocent. “Susan, you’re still so hostile towards me. I just saw Isabella and wanted to say hello. We had a good time yesterday.”
Jada smiled warmly as she placed a beautifully wrapped gift box in front of Isabella. “Isabella, I was out shopping today and thought these earrings would look great on you, so I got them as a gift.”
Before Isabella had a chance to react, Susan grabbed the gift box and threw it straight into the trash. “Jada, stop pretending to be nice to my friend!” Susan snapped, her voice laced with contempt.
Hurt and confused, Jada asked, “Susan, what are you doing? Isabella is also my friend. I thought she’d love these earrings and wanted to make her happy. Why did you just throw them away? Do you think Isabella can’t have friends besides you?”
“She doesn’t need you as a friend,” Susan shot back, her voice icy and harsh. She looked at Jada with a mix of hatred and fury. “Jada, just leave. We all know what kind of person you really are.”
Jada bit her lip, her eyes filled with sadness. She gave Isabella one last look before turning and walking away.
Even after Jada had gone, Susan seemed unsettled. Isabella was troubled by how deeply Jada’s presence had disturbed Susan.
She placed a comforting hand on Susan’s shoulder. “Susan, are you okay?”
When Susan turned to her, Isabella was shocked to see tears welling up in her eyes.
“Susan, what’s wrong?” Isabella asked, her concern growing.
“Isabella, are you seriously considering being friends with Jada?” Susan cried. “I know it’s not my place to dictate your friendships, but Jada is really not a good person.”
“What are you saying? You’re my closest friend! I’m not going to be friends with Jada. I only had dinner with her yesterday because she’s Andrew’s friend. I was just trying to learn more about her,” Isabella assured her.
