“Yeah.” She closed her eyes as she thought about that, “You realise that’s going to show Calvin in a very bad light.”
“Better him than you,” Lisa stated simply. “Think about it, but it’ll have to be soon, dad said to tell you to release everything, about your accident, the amnesia, the twins, all of it. That the altercation between you and Calvin was because he was dead certain you were Marrin, and he was just trying to get you to admit it.
“That is not a lie. In the past few months, your moments with him have seen you remember everything. You’re not mean or cruel, and he has rights as a father, to be around the boys, spin it like that. Your fans will see it as you are forgiving, and that you respect his right to be a dad. What happens between you and him after that? Well, that’s entirely up to you and Calvin.
“Mum suggests you let Wil do the press conference. He’s logical and dad agrees he was on your side as well as Calvin’s. The man can be objective, and knows both of you from the past.”
“Right.” she murmured. “And if I say nothing?”
“You’ll cop backlash. You’re already getting that from a few out there anyway, it will eventually blow over, but the publishing house here, my boss, she is also now asking me what is going on. What do you want me to tell her?”
“The truth, I guess,” was all she could say. They ended the call a few minutes later, and she sat there on the bed and sighed. She could hear the boys running this way, they were laughing and happy to be here in the house.
She got up from the bed and made her way to the sitting area. She knew Calvin was likely trailing the two of them and didn’t really want to be sitting in that bed where she knew he was going to make himself comfortable, likely right next to her, for the boys to see.
She heard them come in, and then they were before her holding out snack foods for her to take. “We got you food. Dad said you should have a day in bed, rest up properly,” Callum told her.
She moved her eyes to Calvin as he strolled into the sitting area and sat down, putting a tray on the coffee table and handed her a cup of tea. She frowned at him as she accepted it.
“I noticed you mostly drink tea during the day.” he smiled at her.
Marilyn wondered at that moment just how much notice he was taking of her, as she smelled the tea and found it was apple and ginger herbal tea. “Where did you get this from?” she asked curiously.
“There’s an array of teas down in the pantry. I just let the boys pick one,” he stated. “Now, I took a call from
Wil while the boys and I were getting snacks and drinks. He wants to know what you want to do about the article.”
She sighed and shook her head. “Lisa just called me,” she admitted. “The publishing house wants to know what’s going on. I’m getting backlash, and they don’t like it, worried about losing sales.”
Calvin nodded “Their PR team want you to make a statement in other words.” He seemed to understand, then she recalled he dealt with this all the time. Calvin was a man that was in the spotlight all the time.
Ah, that was why Liam had suggested it be Wil; he was likely the one to either set it up, or write out Press conference notes for Calvin to read to the press. “Wil usually does this for you, huh?”
“I’d say 60% is myself, the other 40% is Wil. It kind of depends on the situation.” Calvin nodded and drew the boys’ attention to him, “Boys, your mother and I need to have a proper conversation. Would you mind going and watching TV or playing your games?” he asked them, and they looked from him to her and then nodded.
“We’ll play in our room,” Callum told him, and she watched them leave the room and sighed.
“Wil’s of the opinion, it’s time to out absolutely everything to stop the backlash you’ll be getting.” Calvin stated, “I’m currently not getting any, seen as helping you, being the charming gentleman this state knows me as, especially where Marrin is concerned. So this is your call. What you want to do, I’m leaving it completely up to you.”
“Liam said the same thing about just outing everything in full…” She sighed and put that cup of tea down. “I don’t want to discuss this over the phone with Wil, can he come here, best to discuss it in person and sort it out properly, because in full…” she looked at Calvin.
“Means your accident, and the proof of it.” Calvin nodded. “Your amnesia, too. I’ll call him and have him come here. We can prep and see what should be released… so does this mean that are you saying you’re going to release to the world you’re Marrin Reeves, or were Marrin?” he asked.
“I guess so,” she nodded “There’s not really anything other way now is there. Though my changing my name.”
