“What’s wrong?” I asked, already pushing the page
“Another one,” she said. “From The Order.”
My stomach dropped.
“Who?” aside.
“A guy called Sean Kesler. In his mid thirties. Had a wife.”
“Had?” I said softly.
She hesitated. “Yeah. He’s dead.”
Everything stilled.
I blinked. “What?”
“He was found this evening. At home. He killed himself, just like the other guy. Throat slit.”
A sharp, empty silence followed.
“With a tree branch again?” I asked, voice low.
“No. His wife said he was cooking dinner. Using one of the kitchen knives. And then he just slit his own throat,” she explained.
I stared at her, the weight of it settling in my chest.
I didn’t know much about he was. I didn’t even know if I’d met him when I’d joined hands with The Order.
But those people had one thing in common: they weren’t ones to give up.
Not like this.

It was the second former Order member to die in two weeks.
Something was seriously wrong.
“Did anyone see anything?” I asked.
“No. No signs of struggle or anyone else around.”
I nodded slowly. My hands curled into fists against the desk.
“Keep an eye on the others,” I said. “Discreetly. Anyone who used to be part of the Order-I want to know where they are, what they’re doing, and if anything changes.”
“Got it,” Abby said, already halfway out the door. “I’ll send you a list by tomorrow morning.”
“Thank you.”
Once she was gone, I sat back and stared at the phone on the desk.
Lia’s name flashed in my mind before I could stop it.

If it was anyone who’d know what was going on, it would be her.
She was a goddess, after all.
And she’d chosen mercy.
If she knew they were all dying one by one, she’d definitely do something about it.
Or at least tell me what was up.
I picked up my phone, hesitated, then scrolled to her name.
Whatever was happening… it was circling her. It had to be.
And if we didn’t figure it out soon, more people were going to die.
Maybe even people I couldn’t afford to lose.
If anything happened to Caitlyn-
I tapped Lia’s contact and hit call.
-LIA’S POV-
My stomach twisted a little.
I didn’t wanna talk to him.
Not after everything he did.
He may have helped us in the war, but he did it for selfish reasons.
I wasn’t going to forgive what he did to me.
So I cut the call, and exhaled.
I stared at his number, contemplating whether to block it.
Why was he contacting me again? Why now?
Had he lost his new mate and wanted me to find her? Or some other favour?
Maybe he wanted me to command her into loving him.
The kind of person he was, I wouldn’t be surprised if he dared to ask me that.
I made a mental note of making him forget about her existence if he came up with any such ideas.
The phone started to buzz with his call again, making me roll my eyes.
I decided to answer.
“What?” I said sharply.
There was a pause on the other end, like he wasn’t expecting me to be rude.
“Uh, hi,” he muttered then. “How have you been, Lia? Everything good?”
“Yes,” I replied simply. “Perfect. What do you want?”
“Nothing, “he said at once. “I mean, not exactly,” he added with a sigh. “There’s something I have to tell you. Something you might already know, but I thought it best to bring it to your attention.”
I frowned. “What is it?”
“The Order, “he said, and my jaw clenched immediately. “Lia, they’re…”he trailed off, as though he was trying to choose his words.
My eyes flashed purple.
“What are they doing now?” I asked in a low tone.
If they dared to come after us again, after Zane, I would make sure none of them lived long enough to scream.
“Nothing, they’re not doing anything. Lia, they’re dying.”
My eyebrows t
I blinked, wondering if I heard him correct.
“What?” fxe extes
“They’re dying. One by one. I mean, there’s only been two yet, but the manner in which it’s happening is… a bit alarming.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Two former Order members died in the last week. They slit their own throats. One on a sharp branch of a tree, and one with a kitchen knife.
My face fell now, heart giving a loud thud in my chest.
I swallowed.
