Seeing this, the assistant covered his eyes in despair, feeling utterly helpless.
Inside the office, the scene that unfolded left Isabella stunned, and the people inside were taken aback, too. A woman clad in a white dress, looking ethereal with her delicate makeup, was perched elegantly on the sofa. Opposite her sat Andrew.
The woman’s dress was damp, and she appeared to be flustered.
“Who is this? Andrew?” the woman asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes as she looked at Isabella.
Isabella approached, and Andrew greeted her with a smile, standing to welcome her. “This is Jada Riggs. She’s just come back from abroad and is visiting me, but unfortunately, her clothes got wet on the way here.”
Jada Riggs? Isabella was momentarily lost in thought.
Jada stood up gratefully and approached her. “So you are Isabella. I’ve heard so much about you. You are even more beautiful in person!” Jada covered her mouth with a delicate hand as she smiled at Andrew. “Andrew, you are so lucky!”
Their familiarity was apparent; they had clearly known each other for a long time and shared a deep bond.
Observing Jada, who indeed seemed very kind and approachable, Isabella replied, “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Riggs.”
“Please, call me Jada,” Jada said gently.
“You can call me Jada. Andrew and I have been friends since childhood,” Jada explained, her tone light and playful. “I was always worried he would end up alone forever, you know. Our friends used to say that if neither Andrew nor I was married after many years, we could end up together—quite a terrifying thought, isn’t it?” Jada joked, indicating she and Andrew had close relationships with those friends she mentioned.
Isabella glanced at the lavish gift box on the table. “Thank you, but I can’t accept this. We’ve only just met.”
“Oh, please take it! These are some excellent skincare products from abroad. Try them. If you like them, just let me know, and I’ll send more. You’re Andrew’s girlfriend, which makes you a good friend of mine too!” Jada insisted, her smile warm and inviting.
Isabella glanced at Andrew, who nodded in agreement. “Take it.”
Isabella then accepted the gift box.
Jada brightened up, “By the way, Isabella, we are going to have dinner together with our friends tonight. Would you like to join us?”
“We have other plans tonight,” Andrew replied curtly.
Jada sighed, a hint of disappointment in her voice. “Well, I thought it would be nice since we haven’t seen each other for such a long time. But I won’t impose.”
“It’s okay. We can join,” Isabella interjected with a smile.
Andrew looked at her, who subtly shook her head to indicate that she didn’t mind the change of plans. “Really? That’s so kind of you!” Jada’s eyes sparkled as she stepped forward and gently held Isabella’s hand. “You are really so beautiful, Isabella. I liked you the moment I saw you. Andrew, you’re incredibly lucky!”
“Thank you. You’re quite stunning yourself,” Isabella replied, her smile genuine.
Together, they went to a hotel for dinner.
One of Jada’s friends had reserved a private room for the occasion. Before their arrival, the rest of the party had gathered.
Wesley was the first to stand as Jada entered. Catching sight of Andrew trailing behind, he grinned widely. “Jada, I missed you! We’ve been friends for so many years. How could Andrew not come? Andrew’s initial refusal must have been because of Isabella.”
As Wesley finished his remark, Isabella entered the room, casting a faint smile in his direction.
Wesley instantly felt a strong sense of oppression, reminiscent of the time he had lost the dice game. He quietly sat down, choosing to remain silent.
Jada took Isabella’s hand and guided her to sit next to her. She turned to Wesley with a stern expression. “Wesley, remember, Isabella is Andrew’s girlfriend. I’ve already warned you once. If you make such comments again, I will be truly angry.”
“Okay, Jada,” Wesley muttered, his voice carrying a mix of reluctance and surprise. He was trying to process the evident closeness between Jada and Isabella, whom he had assumed to be rivals in love. Alas! Jada was too kind and could be so nice to even her rival in love. Isabella was fortunate to have such a friend like Jada and to be able to spend time with her. Had it been anyone else, Isabella might have faced hostility instead of friendship.
“Now, let’s celebrate Jada’s return!” Wesley exclaimed, lifting his glass high.
The group clinked their glasses together and began their meal amidst light-hearted chatter.
“Jada, is it okay for you to eat with your hair down like that?” Wesley asked, looking at Jada with concern. Her long locks seemed likely to interfere with her dining. Just as Jada was about to respond, Wesley noticed a hair tie wrapped around Andrew’s wrist. “Hey, Andrew, you have a hair tie! You’re still as thoughtful as ever. Pass it to Jada,” he suggested.
“This is my girlfriend’s,” Andrew stated coolly.
This hair tie was once taken off from Isabella’s head—Andrew had kept it, waiting for the perfect moment to return it when Isabella needed it again.
“It’s just a hair tie. Surely Isabella wouldn’t be that stingy, right?” Wesley shrugged as he spoke.
In front of so many people, if Isabella refused, she risked upsetting the entire group. Yet, her expression remained neutral.
Andrew’s gaze turned cold.
Before he could say anything, Jada intervened. “Wesley, that’s uncalled for. A girlfriend’s hair tie holds significance. It’s not something to be shared casually with outsiders.”
“But Jada, you’re hardly an outsider,” Wesley retorted. “What’s the point of keeping it if it’s not being used?”
The other men, deeming the hair tie insignificant, silently agreed with Wesley.
If Isabella couldn’t part with something as simple as a hair tie, that would indeed seem petty.
Without hesitation, Andrew pressed the service bell.
Promptly, a server approached, and Andrew requested, “Bring us a hair tie, please.”
The server returned shortly and presented a hair tie to Jada.
The group fell into an awkward silence, but Jada smiled appreciatively. “Andrew is the wise one among us. Take a lesson from him—that’s how you handle such situations gracefully.”
Isabella couldn’t resist giving Jada a second glance. The hair tie held little value to her; she had remained silent only to gauge Andrew and Jada’s reactions. Andrew’s response aligned with her expectations and pleased her. Jada’s reaction, however, caught her off guard. Though Jada had always seemed kind and gentle, Isabella suspected there was more to her—a carefully maintained facade. Yet, keeping up such a facade wasn’t something just anyone could do.
A flicker of intrigue sparked in Isabella’s eyes.
The moment passed, fading into the background as the conversation shifted to focus on Jada.
“Jada, are you planning to join your father’s company now that you’re back?” Wesley asked.
“Yes, my father has always wanted me to step into the family business.”
“Oh, you’re so exceptional. Riggs Group will surely thrive with you. When the time comes, you must collaborate closely with us.”
Jada smiled warmly. “Actually, I should be the one eager to work with all of you.”
“As long as you’re interested, Jada, any partnership you want, consider it done!” Wesley replied eagerly, glancing around at the others. “Right, everyone?”
“Right!” They all nodded.
Isabella’s heart fluttered. The young men gathered here were from Arasport’s most influential families. This meant Jada had access to incredible resources. In that light, what would become of Susan?
Though they came from the same family and shared the same father, the way people treated them was worlds apart. With Jada in the picture, Susan’s chances of making a name for herself in the company seemed slim.
“Isabella, what are you thinking about?” Jada’s soothing voice snapped her back to reality.
“Oh, just that your father has another daughter, right?”
Jada looked slightly surprised. “Are you talking about Susan? What about her?”
“Though you’re both from the Riggs family, there’s quite a gap between you two,” Isabella remarked, watching Jada’s expression carefully.
Was Jada unaware of the schemes Mara had used against Susan, or was she just pretending?
In truth, Isabella already knew the answer.
Jada responded warmly, “My sister doesn’t really enjoy working at Riggs Group. She has her own passions. But I believe it doesn’t matter who leads the company between us. Even if I inherit it, our dividends will be the same. After our parents pass, it will just be the two of us, and she will undoubtedly be the most important person in my world.”
“Jada, how is that fair?” Wesley interjected, his tone disapproving. “She’s useless. Why should she get anything from the company?”
“Shut up!” Jada snapped, her complexion paling with anger. “Wesley, you’ve crossed the line.”
Stunned by her outburst, Wesley immediately clammed up.
