Calvin
He smiled as the boys went about shoving their things into the suitcases. They were more than excited to be moving into the main house. Marilyn, on the other hand, just kind of stared at him a little on the annoyed side.
He smiled at her, he was going to win her over. It had been his intention always but now that she had all her memories back, it should be even easier to do. She’d also seemed to have gotten over being mad at him. She was a little on the exasperated side, he thought, but that was better than angry, a step back from it.
He could work with that. Step one of his plan had been simple: it was just to have the boys like him, so she could see he was a good father. Which the boys did like him, and they always called him dad, smiled up at him, and he got up and played with them, tormented and teased them, all the things a dad would do.
Step two, now that she had her memories back, it should be even easier for him to achieve; that had been for her to see him in a good light, to show her that he wasn’t a mean cruel man. That what had happened between them was an unfortunate product of the circumstances he’d found himself in, nothing more.
But with her memories intact, she knew he wasn’t that mean nasty person, and he was already back to his normal self, he thought. Smiling at her, he could also talk to her the way he used to be able to today. She’d always been easy to talk to for him, because they were so like-minded, and now with his decision to just tell her how he felt and not hold anything back from her, it was a little bit on the fun side for him.
Step three had been to get her to agree to date him. Well, he’d laid out what he wanted and the way she’d spoken after getting out the car just now, it kind of sounded like she was thinking about it on her own. Maybe with all the knowledge she now had about all that had gone on in their past, she wanted to give it another try, but was hesitant, again due to all that had gone on.
He was leaning in the doorway watching her just sit there. “I can pack for you.” he smiled at her, though his voice had been a little on the deep and seductive side. He’d packed for her once, for a business trip, and she’d opened her suitcase when getting there only to find he’d packed lingerie and nothing else. She’d looked at him, and he’d pinned her down to the bed and smiled at her, told her “You don’t need anything else to wear in this bed.”
Then they’d had to go and buy her clothes. He’d thought it was funny at the time, had known what he’d done, had done it on purpose even. It hadn’t been all that long after they’d been married, but after they’d started having s*x, and her wardrobe had still needed filling, but she wouldn’t shop by herself.
So, he’d devised a way to get her to let him take her shopping, it had worked a treat, because the only actual clothes she’d had were the ones she was wearing that day. Though the shopping had been delayed until he’d had his way with her in that hotel’s bed.
“What are you smiling at?” she asked.
“Hmm, remembering that one time I packed your suitcase for a business trip.” He smiled right at her, “a good fun memory.” He told her. “Do you want me to pack for you now… Might have the same issue though.”
“Get over yourself.” She muttered and got up to his chuckle, and she made her way to her room. “Go and help the boys.”
“Alright,” he nodded, knew that thought would get her up and packing. He was definitely going to get what he wanted at some point, it was all just a matter of time, he could be all charm and gentle lingering seduction when he wanted to be. He helped the boys pack and then strolled into her room, to find she was just sitting there with her phone in her hand and a frown on her face.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
Her eyes turned to him, and then she held out her phone. It was a picture of him and her, walking to his car out the front of Wil’s apartment. It was from Anabell, and the text read “You might want to check the newspapers this morning.”
He’d not even done that, he’d seen the paper was delivered but hadn’t opened it. He had been solely focused on her all morning. He sighed and pulled his phone out to check it, sat himself on the bed next to her and the article about them was big and bold. “Has Marrin Reeves Returned?” was the headline. Then under that in smaller but still bold letting was a subheading ‘Has Houston’s dream couple reunited?’ There was that picture of him and her walking to his car, and then there was one of him and her in his car, as he drove into his apartment building car park, and next to that him carrying her through the front door of his apartment building. With a subhead ‘Calvin Reeves carries missing wife into his apartment. Clearly, a reporter had seen them and followed them in all likelihood. That made him wonder just what they saw today. He and her, the twins, had they been tracked right here to Cliffside, anything was possible.
“Hmm, I see we have been found out.” He murmured, “what do you want to do about it?”
“I don’t know.” She muttered.
He skimmed the comments and murmured “Oh it’s gets worse, three people from Wil’s party have added comments stating your Marilyn Riddley, not Marrin Reeves.” Though he noted they weren’t people he actually knew personally but were the plus ones of the people he knew. They all announced they were at Wil and Anabell Jameson’s New Year’s Eve party attached to their date. That she’d been introduced as Marilyn Riddley, but he’d been seen tracking her every move, and then they’d been seen leaving together. There was even a picture of them at Wil’s apartment. Though they weren’t together, it was a full shot of the room, and he was standing with a drink in his hand, looking at Marilyn across the room talking with Anabell.
He sighed as he read through the threads. She was copping a bit of flack for being seen with him like that, after what had happened six months ago. His eyes moved to her, and she just huffed and got up.
He closed his phone and picked up her closed suitcase. “Think about it, I’ll respond if you want me to. If not, I won’t. It’s that simple.”
She said nothing, she just made her way to the main house, as did the children. She’d cleaned all the rooms up here after his family had left, had sent him away to be with the children. Told him she could do it, it wasn’t that much, that the children were there to spend time with him, though he’d seen her with earbuds in, listening to music, he supposed as she’d taken linen downstairs, and actually put it in the washer.
