She wondered why he was so bloody happy this morning but let it go and ate her breakfast. The boys were happy and animated, and rattled off many jokes from their new joke book; which they’d gotten for Christmas from their grandparents. She shook her head at some of them and smiled at others. They’d been gifted the perfect gift, it seemed, though she did know they’d sent through a few jokes to their grandparents in the days after being allowed to message them.

“Marilyn, I put a call to Dr. Casey Jonston. You’d recall him from the last time you were here, and I told him about your injury. He’s happy to see you if you want that.”

“I don’t need to be seen.” She shook her head. “The swelling will go down in a day or two, and I’ll be back to normal then. I don’t normally push myself like I did yesterday. Only occasionally do I have issues, like last night or today.”

“Sometimes when she slips over in the snow,” Callum stated, “she needs crutches after that dad.”

She frowned at her son, but heard Calvin’s sigh, and turned her eyes on him. “What?” she asked, “People slip on ice, I’m no different.” And she wasn’t, though she’d pretty much resolved that issue of slipping on the bridge of cold frosty snow filled days. By having grip tread put down and always using the handrail.

“How are you going to drive?” Calvin asked her.

“Same as I always do.” she shrugged.

“It’s not an automatic car I noticed, with an ankle like that, you won’t be able to drive.” He was frowning at her.

“I will be, it’ll be fine.” She told him.

“I’ll have Lou drive for you or drive you myself.” he shook his head. “Best to let it rest and heal properly.”

“What are you doing, Calvin?” she frowned at him..

“Looking after you,” he stated simply. “If we hadn’t…” he stopped himself and looked at the boys. “We can discuss it later.” He murmured.

Her eyes moved from him to the boys, and she realised he didn’t want to state they’d gotten into a fight or argument in front of the boys. He was trying to have them see that they got along all the time, she thought. Or was it maybe that, like in their marriage, he just wanted the boys to see them as perfect.

She shook her head. “That we argued.” She stated and saw him frowning deeply at her. “People argue Calvin, it’s a completely normal thing to do. And you’re right, if we’d not gotten into an argument last night, I’d not have walked all those stairs.” She stated and saw both boys looking from her to him. She wasn’t going to go back to being the picture-perfect wife.

She could also see Calvin was unhappy about what she’d just done. Well, he would have to deal with it. She looked at the twins who kind of looked worried now “Boys, your father and I.”

“Marilyn please,” Calvin interrupted her.

She ignored him. “Got into an argument because I got all of my memories back last night, and I recalled everything about my life as your father’s wife, and why we got divorced. So yes, I lashed out at him and then stalked away from him. Because I was overwhelmed and needed a minute to catch up and deal with everything coming back to me, all the emotions that flooded me about what I recalled.”

They were staring at her now and then Callum asked her “No more amnesia?”

“No,” she stated simply, if Calvin knew there was no point in keeping it from the boys either. Her eyes moved to Calvin. “There they know,” she told him. “I’m not going to be who I was back then, I’ve moved on from that life, Calvin, as have you,” she stated and got up from the table “I’m going to go and change.” she muttered and walked away.

She didn’t like the idea that he thought she would just go back to being the woman that was polite, well-mannered and did as she was told 24/7. She wasn’t that person anymore, and didn’t want to go back to being that either. She was a real person with real feelings to be acknowledged.

Calvin

He watched her get up and leave the table, and though he’d thought she was about to blame him for their argument and her injury, she’d not. Had put it down to her getting all her memories back and a flood of emotions. Both boys were staring after her. They seemed a bit on the shocked side, and then they turned to him.

He just nodded, he’d only not brought it up because he didn’t want the boys to hear her blame him for what happened. Seems she didn’t do that anyway, and he could see the boys were happy about her having her memories back too. They were now talking a mile a minute about finding out things about her life before they were born.

Calvin sighed internally. They clearly had no idea about his and their mother’s marriage being a contract marriage, and he didn’t really want to tell them that either, or how they’d been conceived. Marilyn had taken issue with that herself. When it had dawned on her last night as well. He’d already figured it out and knew about that, it hadn’t come as a shock to him.

It didn’t particularly bother him, but it did her because she’d not known all the things he’d put into motion or why the divorce was happening. Something they were likely going to have to talk about still. She’d been upset with him, and though she’d said it was due to a sudden flood of emotions, he didn’t doubt her. He could well imagine that she’d been hit with all that pain and hurt she’d spoken of to him last night as well.

Likely still was trying to deal with it, but she’d called him Calvin last night and this morning, no more Mr Reeves, something he hated hearing come from her. But had to try and understand that it was because she didn’t recall him and hadn’t known him. But now she did recall him, and just needed time to come to the realisation that he’d loved her.

That he still did in fact love her and wanted her, he found his mothers’ eyes on him, and she sighed a little but said nothing. He wouldn’t push Marilyn into anything, as much as he would love to just pull her into his arms and kiss the hell out of her. It wasn’t likely going to be that easy. She was now going to be mad at him about why the divorce happened, he could well imagine.

They were supposed to go back to Cliffside today for the remaining few days. She and the boys were going to be here, but he also didn’t think she should drive her car while she could barely walk. He waited for her to come from that room, and she was dressed in jeans and a tee-shirt much like he was, and her hair was pulled up into a ponytail.

She called for the boys to go and get dressed, that they’d be leaving soon, and they just hopped up and went and did what they were told. He sighed internally and approached the subject once more. “Marilyn, I still don’t think you should drive on that ankle. I’m happy to drive us all out to Cliffside and then bring you back here when you and the boys are ready to go back to Virginia on the third. You can leave your car here until then.”

She stared at him for a long moment and then just stated “Fine.” as she sat on the lounge.
