Milly looked up at him, her tear-filled eyes wide with disbelief. “Really?”
“Yes,” Howard said softly, his hand gently wiping away her tears. “Just stop crying, please.”
Milly clung to him, feeling his warmth seep into her, melting the cold that had settled in her bones. But just as she began to feel a sense of comfort, a sudden, sharp pain shot through her, making her wince. Then, as quickly as it came, it was gone, leaving her holding onto Howard even tighter, seeking solace in his presence.
Edge Entertainment
After a day of taking it easy, Isabella refocused and dove back into her work. As she was deeply engrossed, Kevin walked in, carrying a lunchbox.
“Miss Patton,” he said with a cheerful grin, placing the lunchbox on her desk. “I brought you some spare ribs.”
Isabella glanced at the meal—spare ribs, vegetables, and bread—all looking delicious. Although beautifully arranged, she took a bite and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. “This is really good! It’s not every day you see entertainers who can cook like this. Can you make anything else?”
Kevin’s face lit up with pride. “Absolutely! I can do fish and chips, barbecue, even beef Wellington!”
Isabella raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. “You’re quite the chef, aren’t you?”
“Of course!” Kevin replied, his confidence evident.
Then, with a hopeful glint in his eye, he added, “You should come over to my place sometime and try my cooking. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”
Isabella smiled at his enthusiasm. “Alright, let me finish this first.”
“Sure thing,” Kevin said, practically glowing with happiness. “And if you have any feedback, just let me know.”
Kevin left the room, clearly pleased with himself, while Isabella continued to enjoy her meal.
In the practice room, Kevin’s phone buzzed with a message. “It’s so good!” Isabella had texted.
Kevin’s heart skipped a beat as he quickly typed back, “Would you like to come to my place for a meal?”
Isabella’s reply was prompt: “Are you sure? I don’t want to impose!”
Kevin didn’t hesitate: “You won’t! It’s nothing.”
Isabella then replied, “When is a good time?”
“Tonight works for me,” Kevin sent eagerly.
“Alright!” Isabella agreed. Kevin was thrilled. He sent Isabella a photo of himself working out, proudly telling her that he was working hard.
He was confident—too confident, perhaps—believing that with his charm and dedication, he could easily win Isabella’s heart. Andrew might be an impressive and distinguished man, but Kevin was convinced that someone like Andrew probably didn’t have the time or attention to truly care for Isabella. After all, women needed a thoughtful boyfriend, didn’t they?
Feeling victorious before the battle had even begun, Kevin spun around in excitement, envisioning his success.
In the afternoon, after wrapping up her work at the company, Isabella checked in on Andrew’s lab. She added contact using Dr. Mia’s account to follow up on the herbs she had been cultivating.
Isabella messaged, “Belen, how are the herbs coming along?”
Belen replied, “Tomorrow marks a week, but they’re not doing well. You should come and take a look.”
Isabella frowned at the message. How could that be? If Belen had used her method, the herbs should be flourishing.
She made a mental note to visit the lab to figure out what went wrong.
That evening, Kevin hurried home, eager to prepare for Isabella’s visit. He bought an array of ingredients, determined to impress her with his culinary skills. While cooking, he sweated profusely, but the dishes were coming together perfectly.
At precisely seven-thirty, the doorbell rang. Kevin’s heart raced with excitement as he rushed to open the door. Seeing Isabella standing there, he couldn’t hide his delight.
“Miss Patton, you’re here! It must have been a long day for you. Please, come in and relax!”
“Thanks,” Isabella replied, stepping inside. “Are you cooking?” she asked, curious. She took a quick glance around. The spotless, well-organized space caught her attention—it was unusually neat for a bachelor’s pad.
“Yes,” Kevin said, flashing a confident smile. “Please, make yourself comfortable. Dinner will be ready shortly.”
Isabella paused, then added casually, “By the way, I brought a friend with me. Is that okay?”
“Of course!” he responded eagerly. Friends are always welcome.”
But as the words left his mouth, his smile faltered. The sight of the person stepping in behind Isabella made his heart sink.
“Mr. Klein?”
“Sorry to interrupt,” Andrew’s voice was soft and courteous, but it carried an unmistakable air of authority that made Kevin feel small and unimportant in his presence.
Kevin gulped nervously. “I didn’t expect you to come, Mr. Klein.”
“Isabella mentioned your cooking is exceptional, so I thought I’d experience it myself,” Andrew said with dignified calm. He offered an expensive gift, heightening Kevin’s anxiety even further.
Kevin took a deep breath, forcing a smile. “It’s a pleasure to have you here, Mr. Klein. Please, make yourself at home.”
As Kevin retreated to the kitchen to continue cooking, he tried to steady his nerves. He reassured himself that despite Andrew’s imposing presence, the situation could work to his advantage. If Andrew felt envious of the attention Kevin was giving Isabella, it might create tension between them. When that happened, Kevin would be there to comfort Isabella, possibly winning her favor more quickly. With this thought in mind, a mischievous smile crept across his face.
Dinner soon began, and Kevin proudly presented the dishes. The spread looked impressive, and Isabella gave him an approving thumbs up. “You’ve really outdone yourself, Kevin.”
“Thank you, Miss Patton. I hope you enjoy it,” Kevin replied modestly. “Please, dig in.”
Isabella and Andrew took their seats, and Kevin served a bowl of soup to Isabella. “Miss Patton, I know you’re always busy with work, so I specially made this soup for you. It’s good for your health.”
“You’re knowledgeable about health remedies?” Isabella asked, intrigued.
“Yes, a bit of such knowledge helps in cooking,” Kevin said with a smile.
Isabella replied warmly, “I appreciate that.”
“I’ve also prepared some of the soup base for you to take home,” Kevin added.
“Thank you.”
Kevin aimed to curry favor with Isabella, hoping to provoke a reaction from Andrew. As the CEO, Andrew was accustomed to being the center of attention and wouldn’t easily tolerate being overshadowed. Yet, he remained composed, focusing on the meal as if Kevin’s efforts were of no consequence. This only deepened Kevin’s frustration, feeling as though he were making futile attempts to impress Isabella.
“Miss Patton, there’s a little something at the corner of your mouth…” Kevin started to reach out instinctively but hesitated. “Let me get you a tissue.”
While he was fetching the tissue, Andrew had already gently wiped the stain from Isabella’s mouth, his touch both tender and intimate. “Your artist is really talented,” he commented smoothly.
“Well, Edge Entertainment only works with the best,” Isabella said with a smile.
Watching their effortless interaction, Kevin felt a pang of jealousy. Despite his best efforts, Andrew seemed to eclipse him with a single graceful gesture.
“By the way, Kevin, your cooking is superb,” Isabella said, turning to him with genuine appreciation.
“I’m pleased you think so, Miss Patton,” Kevin replied, regaining some of his confidence.
“You know, I’m considering recommending you for a cooking reality show. Your skills are exceptional, and being on the show could really enhance your profile.”
“What?” Kevin blinked, taken aback.
Andrew nodded in agreement. “You truly know how to recognize and nurture talent, always providing them with the best opportunities.”
“That’s just part of my job,” Isabella replied simply.
It hit Kevin then—the reason Isabella had praised him and visited his home wasn’t personal. She was evaluating his cooking for the show. His heart sank, and he felt his face flush with disappointment.
Isabella noticed his change in demeanor and asked, “Is something wrong? If you’re not interested, that’s perfectly fine. We respect every artist’s choice. But those who’ve been on the show have gained significant fame, so I thought it might be a great opportunity for you.”
“No, Miss Patton, I’m just surprised by your thoughtfulness,” Kevin managed to smile through his dismay.
Isabella returned his smile with politeness. “The company aims to support our artists. Since you chose to join us, we want to honor that trust.”
