Her eyes flickered as she heard the door to the bedroom open, and she watched from beneath her lashes, as Calvin walked across his bedroom, he was yawning, clearly had just woken up, and he ran a hand through his hair to push it back. He was headed for his walk-in, and he came out a few minutes later in jeans and shirt, shrugging on a jacket.
She closed her eyes as his head turned to look at her, and feigned being asleep still, she didn’t want to get caught looking at him, like she would have done when they were married. She felt the duvet get pulled up a little and be tucked in around her somewhat. A moment later and then his lips touched her forehead softly, before he was just gone from the room once more, closing the door quietly behind him.
She sighed to herself and opened her eyes. The sun was barely up, he’d kept his word and slept out there on the lounge and left her be. She could also hear the boys were up, and he spoke with them. She couldn’t hear what was being said but wondered if they’d just seen him come out of this room and told them she was in there. God only knew what the twins would make of that.
She was still tired. They’d not gotten back to the apartment until just after 1am, and it was barely 7am, but she’d tossed and turned alot in this bed before falling asleep, because of all she’d now done to him. Been mean and cruel to him when she shouldn’t have. A part of her now wished she’d gotten all her memories back in one fell swoop. Then maybe none of this would have happened, and they wouldn’t be at odds with each other.
She rolled over and lay there on the bed and just sighed to herself as she closed her eyes once more. What was she supposed to do now?
Her eyes opened, and she gasped at Vincent staring at her. She must have fallen back asleep and not realised it. “Mum, you’re awake,” Vincent stated, and then climbed up on the bed. urmured and yawned only to hear him chuckle.
“Why do I feel like you woke me?” she
“Grandma said to wake you, breakfast is almost ready.” He smiled at her. “You slept late. Dad said to tell you, to use the crutches he bought you, or to remind you he’d pick you up himself.” Her son laughed.
“What?” she frowned and looked about the room to see a pair of crutches leaning against the bedside table. She sighed. She’d not even heard anyone come into the room, she must have been out cold.
“What happened that you need crutches?” Vincent asked her.
“Too many stairs is all.” she answered him honestly. He would understand that.
Then he leaned right over to her and whispered in her ear, “Do you know you’re in dad’s bed?” his voice kind of held some excitement, she thought.
“Yes,” she murmured. “He put me here after my ankle swelled up, and I wasn’t allowed to leave it. He warned me not to, but he slept on the couch.” She informed her son, who seemed just a little bit too excited at seeing her in their father’s bed.
“I know, he was asleep out there when we got up. Cal and I woke him.” He smiled at her. “He groaned in annoyance much like you do mum.” He chuckled and climbed down off the bed. She didn’t really say anything to that. Calvin was generally always out of bed before she had been, unless there was going to be morning s*x, and then she generally had woken up already hot and bothered.
She shook that thought off and flicked the sheets and duvet back and swung her feet from the bed to the floor and stood up, tested the weight on her left ankle and winced a little. She rarely allowed herself to over do it, to avoid this very thing. She sighed to herself as she looked at the time, it was almost 9am,
She picked up the crutches and saw they had a hospital logo on them, and shook her head, she actually owned a pair for days like this. She headed off to use the bathroom as Vincent ran from the room. “She’s up dad.” She heard him state.
Marilyn stared at her reflection in the mirror and sighed. Her hair was a mess, and her dress crumpled, but there wasn’t much she could do about it. She opened the cabinet and saw his hairbrush, reached out to grab it as her eyes fell on a bottle of perfume. It was the perfume she wore, Pure Luxury. She shook her head and let it go. Who knew why he had that here? She brushed out her tangled hair and made her way to the dining area.
Both Kay and Malcom were seated at the table along with Callum and Vincent, and Calvin was in the kitchen, “Coffee?” he asked.
“Mm.” she nodded and saw him smile. “What?” she muttered!
“Still not a morning person, huh.” He chuckled softly and motioned for her to sit at the table.
She sat in one of the two empty seats and his mother smiled at her. “How’s the ankle.”
“Sore,” she nodded, “But manageable.”
“You use those crutches with ease,” Malcom stated as he buttered toast for himself.
“Nothing unusual for me. I actually own a pair of crutches for days like this,” she nodded.
“She had just one last time. It was funny, she looked like a pirate.” Callum laughed.
“She had a peg leg.” Vincent burst out, and both boys made out as if they were pirates, “Arg ye Matie.” Callum stated, “Where’s my peg-leg?” Vincent followed up, and then they whacked each other, as they always did when they thought they were being hilarious. Amused themselves to no end some days.
She shook her head at them. “Yes, got a lot of that from you.” she muttered and turned her eyes to her breakfast, then to Calvin himself as he put a plate of food in front of her and her coffee.
“The boys told me what you like to eat. Ham cheese and tomato omelet with a side of toast,” he stated. “They got the same too.” He waved a hand at the boy’s plates, before putting them in front of the twins, and sat down himself.
He, like his father, would have just toast or nothing at all, she recalled. “You went to the hospital this morning?” she inquired, motioning to the crutches and the logo on them.
“I did, nowhere else was open that I could get you crutches before the c***k of dawn. I donate a lot of money. to that hospital, so lending me a pair of crutches was fine.” He smiled at her.
