Filed To Story: Returning to Her Not-So-Poor Family
Louisa’s hand froze mid–air, the servants all stunned, their gazes turning to Mirabella,
Mirabella calmly asked, “Is she really that proud?”
“Unbelievably so! You have no idea. Getting her to write a song is like trying to reach the sky! So many people in the industry want her to write a song, even just a piece, but she refuses them all!”
“She may be a world–renowned pianist and music producer, but she shouldn’t be so arrogant, don’t you think?”
Mirabella nodded. So the person who offered that high price for a song was her brother’s agent?
Tonight, she had been busy questioning two suspects about a fire years ago, but they committed suicide before she could get anything out of them. She was not in a good mood, and turned down the order. She didn’t expect that they were all family!
“You agree she’s arrogant too, right sis?”
“Could you just stop talking?” Louisa quickly interrupted him.
However, David got more and more riled up: “I don’t need her to write music for me! What’s so great about her?”
Edith couldn’t stand it any longer. She put a bowl of soup in front of Mirabella: “Melody, uh, I mean, Queen Abby, no, I mean, Ms. Bella, here’s your soup, please enjoy.” David’s mouth fell open. He stared at his sister in disbelief. What’s going on? What happened? Melody? Queen Abby? They’re all his sister?
“Bella, enjoy your soup while it’s hot. Take your time. After you finish, I’ll help you scold your brother,” Louisa said affectionately. “He’s been griping about you since. he got home.”
“Bella is Melody? Queen Abby?”
How could this be possible?
“What’s so impossible about that? Your sis is loaded with talents. Isn’t that reasonable?” Louisa shot him a sideway glance, seemingly finding his astonishment amusing.
David was stunned for a while before asking, “Didn’t Bella just finish her college entrance examination?”
She’s only eighteen! In the prime of her innocent years!
How could she possibly be the founder of QY? Or the famous pianist and composer Melody?
What on earth happened to her to bring about such a massive change?
“Oh, by the way, the one who aced the college entrance examination this year was also your sister.”
Louisa’s tone was calm, but David was stunned again. Shock couldn’t even begin to describe his feelings.
He heard this year’s college entrance examination was a tough nut to crack, twice as difficult as last year. And Bella aced them?
Worse still, he had just mocked her for being arrogant and bad–tempered. Was it too late for regrets now?
He just got back and hadn’t had the chance to show off in front of his sister, and his image was already down the drain.
What should he do? Can he pretend to have some mental breakdown? How can he get out of this mess?
“Bro, you’re back?”
A cheerful voice snapped David back to reality.
Serena ran to David happily, pulled out a chair and sat down, her eyes sparkling with joy and surprise.
Facing David, she felt much more relaxed, unlike the tension and caution she felt when she saw Hans Collins. She was completely at ease now.
“Bro, when did you get back? Why didn’t you tell me in advance, so I could pick you up at the airport?”
“With David’s popularity, there would be a crowd at the airport to pick him up, and we wouldn’t get a chance to meet him.” Martha said, beaming at David, “David, you have no idea how often Serena talks about you. It’s like my ears are gonna grow calluses.”
The servants around were at a loss for words. The last time when Hans came back, Martha said the same thing. She’s quite a turncoat.
“Bro, about the favour I asked you last time.” Serena hesitated, her eyes full of anticipation.
“I’ve taken care of it!” David smiled and patted her head, “Evelyn’s ten autographs are in my bag. I’ll give them to you later.”
“Awesome! I knew you’re the best!” Serena’s face lit up with a pure and innocent smile.
She’s a fan of Evelyn, a renowned dancer. Evelyn participated in David’s reality show as a mentor this year, so Serena seized the opportunity to ask David for Evelyn’s autograph.
With David’s status, getting a few autographs was a piece of cake.
“I have her WhatsApp, and I can give it to you later.
Upon hearing this, Serena was overjoyed, her voice even sweeter, “Thank you!!”
She glanced at Mirabella subconsciously, her eyes filled with defiance and show–off as if saying: “Brother got me ten autographs from a star and added her on WhatsApp, while you got nothing! Who’s more important in his heart? see it for yourself!”
Mirabella was at a loss for words. Was it really necessary to make such a fuss over ten autographs?
“Bella, do you have any favourite stars in the entertainment industry? If so, don’t mention autographs and pictures. If you like him, next time he attends an event, I’ll take you there for a face–to–face chat.”
Serena rolled her eyes, not buying Mirabella’s claim.
The servant nearby was also surprised. A girl her age not into celebs? But then again, Ms. Bella was not your average girl.
“Alright, enough chit–chat. Your midnight snacks are getting cold. Dig in.” Louisa didn’t touch the food, but she picked up a big shrimp.
David was touched. He reached for his bowl. “Mom, I haven’t been home in so long. You still remember what I like to eat.”
Before he could finish, he saw his mother peel the shrimp and put it in Mirabella’s bowl.
“Bella, Mom knows you love seafood, eat up!” Louisa picked up another shrimp, peeled it and put it in Mirabella’s bowl. “Tonight’s snacks are mainly seafood, also some barbeque you youngsters love. Mix and match, enjoy.”
She didn’t want to restrict her daughter with “healthy eating“. As long as her daughter was happy, everything was acceptable.
Mirabella smiled slightly, “Thanks, Mom, it’s delicious.”
“If you like it, eat more. I can have the kitchen prepare it every day!” Only then did Louisa give Serena a shrimp.
Even though it was peeled, Serena was full of resentment: Always Mirabella first, her second!
Did anyone ever consider her feelings? They promised to treat her like their own, all lies!!
Louisa picked up a skewer of salt and pepper shrimp. David thought his mother had finally remembered him. But the next second, he saw her put the shrimp in Mirabella’s bowl.
“Bella, this smells really good. You should try it.”
David was being so blatantly ignored that even the servants couldn’t help but pity him. David’s status in the family was so low he was practically invisible.
After a while, David saw his mother pick up a squid, and he quickly reached for his bowl. “Mom, how did you know I like this?”
Before he could get excited, he saw the squid fall into Mirabella’s bowl.
He couldn’t help but speak up, “Mom, I like squid too!”
“If you want it, why don’t you get it yourself?” Louisa looked at him, annoyed. “Is your hand broken? You should be thankful you’re not asked to care for your sister and now you’re being picky!”
Definitely his real mom.
Louisa continued to peel shrimp for Mirabella. Seeing Mirabella’s plate piled with shrimp, David thought she couldn’t finish them all and reached for one. But before his hand could touch the shrimp, Louisa slapped it away.
“This is for your sister! Can’t you peel your own?“.
After being away for so long, he felt his family status had dropped another level, and he was now at the bottom.
Just as he began questioning himself, Louisa suddenly put a crab leg in his bowl. Before he could show his excitement and gratitude, he heard Louisa’s cold voice.
“Your sister doesn’t like it, so it’s yours.”
He was hurting inside, but he dared not show it.
They finished the midnight snack. Serena tried to engage David in conversation, hoping to show off their close sibling relationship in front of Mirabella.
But as soon as David saw Mirabella leaving, he immediately followed her. “Serena, whatever you want to talk about, it can wait. I need to talk to Bella!”
What could possibly go wrong?
Watching David walk away, Serena was fuming.
Just then, Martha hurried over to her, looked around to ensure no one was around, and whispered, “Serena! I heard David’s welcome gift for Ms. Bella is a limited edition diamond set from CN.”
“CN did release a few diamond sets recently, but each one is worth a fortune!” Serena’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Is David really willing to spend that much on a sister he’s never met?”
This jewellery set was globally limited. A lot of people, including foreign royals, wanted to buy it. It wasn’t something she could just buy if she had the money! It involved connections, power, status and was incredibly complicated.
Even though Serena wanted that jewellery set, she knew that as an adopted daughter, she had no right to ask her parents to buy her something that expensive! But David had easily bought it and given it to that person!
The worst part was all she got were ten autographs. It was so unfair!!
“Everyone in the family says they’ll treat everyone fairly, but their attitudes towards you and Mirabella are clearly different, and the treatment gap is huge!” Martha sighed, “Serena, no matter how hard you try, you can’t change this fact.”
Serena bit her lip unwillingly. Could her parents and brother easily take back the love they had for her for 18 years just because of blood ties?
She used to be the little princess of the family. They promised to make her the most carefree and happy little princess–in the world! They were all liars!!! They stopped taking care of her after their biological daughter came back!!
It would be so much better if Mirabella didn’t come back.
David walked quickly and soon caught up with Mirabella, “Bella!”
His clear voice reached Mirabella’s ears. Mirabella had just walked into the room and turned her head with a puzzled look when she heard the voice, “Bro, what’s up?” David quickly handed her a black card and sincerely said, “This is some pocket money for you, no limit. Feel free to spend it. Consider it a little token of my affection.”
Mirabella looked at the black card in his hand with some surprise. Why did all the brothers in the house like to give her money?
