‘Without me, you will never know how to leave Mysteria,’ I smile.

‘Are you saying you know the way out?’

‘I do, but even then. You will never leave Mysteria again. You will never harm another realm, another world ever again,’ I say to him.

Thypon bursts into laughter, ‘Oh, you’re very funny. I think I will keep you caged up to entertain me while the rest of your friends die! How do you suppose you will keep me from leaving,’ he laughs.

I smile at him, reach into my satchel, open the lid of the trinket box, and slide it across the ground toward him.

‘And what is that?’ he asks.

‘Your new home,’ I answer.

‘You fool,’ he shouts, ‘If you think you are going to keep me locked up in a box, then you have another thing coming,’ he shouts and aims his staff at us.

A beam of flame shoots toward us. I hold my hands up, creating a sheer rippling dome to shield us. Thypon looks impressed but continues to try to burn through my shield.

Sweat forms across my forehead. The shield won’t last any longer. Kadva places his hand on my arm. I feel his power flow through my arm, entwining with mine. It makes the shield stronger, but it still isn’t enough.

Reaper mind-links me, ‘This is the time when you need to absorb my power,’ he says.

I nod and concentrate on Reaper, who’s perched on Alec’s shoulder. The black mist that emits from him begins to flow from his body into mine. The shield strengthens, but Thypon creates a large blue electric bolt that shoots down his staff, merging with the flame. As it hits the shield, I almost falter back from the force, but Quinn uses her magic to hold me up. I smile down at her and look back at Thypon. He is too strong. I need to use the sceptre.

‘Even with all of you combining your powers, it will never be enough to seal me,’ he says.

Reaper isn’t looking too good as I drain him of his power.

I need to distract Thypon. Then I can grab the sceptre from my bag and transform into a deity. Then I won’t have to risk draining Reaper of all his power and possibly his life, ‘I’ll tell you the way out of here,’ I say to Thypon.

He pauses. The flame and electricity dissipate, ‘Go on?’ he says.

‘It’s not a matter of how to leave but when,’ I say to him.

Thypon tilts his head and waits for me to explain.

‘The midsummer solstice is the only time a deity can cross through the veil.’

‘What!’ he shouts angrily, ‘I’m not waiting the rest of the year stuck in this treacherous place!’ he yells.

‘You won’t be,’ I smile. ‘You’ll be spending it in your little trinket box.’

He stares at me, confused.

I hear the Moon Goddess, Ogrum, Valkrim and Cerridwen whispering to me, calling me to take the sceptre. I remove the satchel from over my shoulder, take the sceptre out and toss the bag aside.

Thypon’s eyes widen with shock, ‘No,’ he says, his eyes narrowing angrily at me

I hold the sceptre in front of me with two hands and recite the chant.

‘Sceptre of Divine power

I open my heart to accept my new fate

Grant me your power to defend all those at stake

May my heart stay true

As I transcend from old to new

This fate I accept with all my heart from you.’

At first, the sceptre lights up, but then nothing else happens.

‘No!’ Thypon shouts again. He then looks down at Magnus and aims his staff at him. Power surges from his staff, and a blue electric bolt strikes him. He convulses as the strike runs through his body. His open slightly to see me, ‘Nina,’ he whispers.

‘Magnus!’ I shout. But his eyes close, and his body goes limp.

Alec and I stare at one another and breathe heavily at his demise.

Thypon laughs and then aims his staff at Damon.

‘No!’ Queen Maia screams. She forms a purple ball of light at Thypon and throws it toward his face. Kadva then stands by her side and forms a blue orb he throws at Thypon.

Suddenly the gem on the sceptre lets out an explosion of light, and I’m lifted from the ground. My back arches as a dark mist swirls around me.

Everyone looks at me, transforming then Alec looks back at the guardians. ‘Everyone attack and keep attacking. We must keep Thypon at bay while Nina transforms and can seal him.’

Everyone nods and follows Queen Maia and Kadva, using all their power and every spell they know against him.

The witches create storm clouds and strike him with lightning and, using the fire spell, throw flames at him.

Quinn uses her little silver wand, striking him with zaps that burst into silver glitter each time it hits him.

Reaper mind-links me, ‘Nina, I’m flying toward you against my will. I’m not sure what’s happening,’ he says.

‘Maybe because we are bound, it might have something to do with my transforming into a goddess,’ I mind-link him back.

As I see Reaper flying toward me, the dark mist from his feathers flows toward me and seeps down my throat. I feel something under my skin in my shoulder blades forming and forcing its way out. I fall to the ground and scream. I try to scratch my shoulder blades and feel a bone and something soft. I pull at the softness to see black feathers in my hand. ‘What is happening to me?’ Suddenly the pain and pressure in my shoulder blades intensify. I scream as Reaper flies into my chest and comes out my back. At the same time, he went through my back, and two giant black wings extended out and opened. Dark mist forms all around me. It flickers like a flame. The sceptre turns to dust. I turn my hands to see my palms. I watch as the dark mist flows slowly through my darkened veins. I feel its greatness, its power. I have never felt anything like it. My arms jerk creepily, along with the rest of my body, as the power continues to take over my body and consume me.

I notice Alec has moved Magnus away and is checking his vitals. Alec’s shoulders slump, and he stares at me through the dark mist swirling around me. He shakes his no, confirming Magnus is dead.

‘No!’ I scream.

A massive sphere of black mist forms around me and bursts into sparkling black dust that rains down on everyone.

The emotions of Magnus’s death and the immense power I now hold have completely consumed me.

I feel the anger and rage building inside of me. Everyone starts to worry as my eyes turn black as night, and my veins become even darker. You can see them from a good distance. I flap my large black feathered wings and descend into the sky. I hold my palms open, and large spheres of black electricity form. Thypon dodges most of the attacks from the guardians, and the ones that manage to strike him only do minor damage. He laughs at them but stops w hen he makes eye contact with me. His eyes narrow. Being a giant, he strikes the guardians with his arm, sending them all flying. I throw my electric bolts at him. He constantly jolts and yells in pain. Tears roll down my face as I stare over at my beloved Magnus, but then to my horror, I watch as Alec bites into his neck. I’m mortified that my Blood Flame is draining my mate of his blood. I form more dark magic into the palm of my hands as I’m about to throw it at Alec to get him off Magnus. Thypon slithers toward me with great speed and strikes me with the power of his staff. I fly back from the force but simultaneously throw my sphere of darkness at him. It hits him, and he falls back. As I fly back toward him, he readies himself for the next attack. The trinket box nearby shines for a moment. Him and I attacking each other is not going to stop him. We could fight each other for days, weeks, centuries. I have to seal him to stop him, but he needs to be distracted, so I can use the spell without being struck and having to start the spell over again.

The guardians have returned to us and continue to fight Thypon, even though they know they are no match.

Quinn flutters her little wings and flies up to Thypon’s face. He laughs at her as she unties a little brown pouch from her waist, pours the contents into her hand and blows it in his face. His eyes flicker, and he flails his arms around, hitting Quinn.

‘Quinn!’ I yell as she is flung hard into the ground. She doesn’t move and remains limp on the ground.

But Thypon now appears disorientated. He looks around and up at the sky as if he is seeing things and begins to strike the clouds in the sky as he mutters strange words.

Quinn had used her fairy dust on him. I remember how it made me disorientated and see things. I smile at her braveness and cleverness.

While he is distracted and attacking clouds, I know it’s the perfect time to cast the spell to seal him.

Everyone drops to the ground as it rumbles and shakes. We turn to see the horde of Minotaur, Death Worms and Harpies coming our way.

Wands! I can’t cast the spell if I have to fight them off. Suddenly from behind them, we hear roars and screeches.

Vermillion appears with all the dragons behind him. They are following his lead. They circle the horde of creatures, trapping them from getting to us and attacking them with fire, bolts and poison. I can’t believe what I’m seeing. Vermillion must have convinced the dragons to help us.

I turn back to Thypon and the trinket box and hold my hands out, directing my palms at him.

‘Within this vessel shall hold thee

Forever sealed for eternity

No more harm will be done

Seal the darkness to protect everyone

No more dangers, no more harm.

Seal this creature and let this be done,’

I feel the power surge down my arms each time I say the spell, but it doesn’t seem to be enough power to seal him, as nothing happens.

Suddenly Reaper perches on my shoulder, Queen Maia places her hand on my arm, and then Yiselda places her hand on my other arm. I smile at them before Kadva touches my arm. Ria, Fern, Ela and Lilac all then place their hands on me, and Ember sits between my feet, rubbing her face against my leg. They begin the chant the spell, and I join them. The power intensifies down my arms as I Absorb their power as we chant together,

‘Within this vessel shall hold thee

Forever sealed for eternity

No more harm will be done

Seal the darkness to protect everyone

No more dangers, no more harm.

Seal this creature and let this be done,’ we chant.

We watch as Thypon slowly begins to be sucked in toward the trinket box each time we repeat it. By the time he is waist-deep being squeezed in, he realises what is happening. He tries to grab onto the castle wall, then a tree as he continues to be sucked in. The lid snaps shut over him, and an explosion of bright light forms and seals around the edges of the box. The guardians and Reaper all drop to the ground as the box seals. I peer down at them breathing heavily.

I’m scared I have drained them of their powers and life, but their eyes begin to flicker, and they slowly sit up. I sigh in relief and then look over at Alec and Magnus. Alec is holding Magnus and seems to have cut his wrist, letting his blood drip into Magnus’s mouth. Now with wings, I fly toward them and fall to my knees beside Magnus. I shove Alec, and he flies back, slamming into a tree.

‘What are you doing to him!’ I cry and hold Magnus in my arms. My wings wrap around Magnus to pull him closer to me and shield him from everyone. I rock him and cry as tears drip down onto him. Alec’s blood is smeared on his lips. I lean down and kiss him. Sparks fly as our lips touch. It makes me cry, even more, knowing I will never be able to kiss him again. That Thypon has killed him. As Alec walks toward me, I feel sparks on my arm. I look down to see Magnus’s fingers curled around my arm.

‘Magnus!’ I whisper.

‘Nina,’ Alec says, ‘I’m sorry, but I didn’t have any other choice,’ he says.

‘What are you talking about?’ I say, confused.

‘As his heartbeat was fading, I knew he would die before the last beat. I bit him and then fed him my blood, hoping to change him into a vampire to bring him back. There is a chance I was too late. I’m not sure if it worked,’ he says and kneels beside me. Tears form in his eyes, and he looks up at the sky.

Suddenly Magnus jolts up, gasping for air. He looks around and sees Alec and me.

‘Magnus!’ we both shout with happiness.

We watch as he develops fangs and his eyes turn red. His eyes lock with mine. He grabs my wrist, which doesn’t have Alec’s mark. It leaves a slight burn leaving his vampire mark. He pulls me in, smashing our lips together. My hands tug at his hair, and I caress his face as his hand trace my body and wraps around my waist. As soon as our lips part, his teeth extend, and with a flash, his fangs sink into my neck and he drinks. His head flings back the moment he stops drinking.

Magnus looks at me confused, ‘What has happened to me?’ he asks.

I look at Alec to explain.

‘You died. I couldn’t bear the thought of Nina living for eternity with your loss without you by her side. The only chance we had of saving you was for me to turn you into a vampire. So I did.’

‘Wait! Am I not a werewolf anymore? I’m a vampire?’ he asks.

‘Well, technically, you’re a Vaewolf now. Half wolf, half vampire. You have the ability of both,’ Alex explains.

Magnus looks down at my wrist and rubs the symbol he just left. It creates sparks to flow up my arm throughout my body and then takes in my large magnificent wings.

‘It suits you,’ smiles.

‘Thanks,’ I smile back and sob happily.

Magnus laughs, making me and Alec give each other a worried look.

‘Are you okay, Magnus?’ I ask him.

‘Our fates have changed, Nina, but I guess for the better. You are now a Goddess, and I am now a Vaewolf,’ he smirks and then looks at Alec. ‘And you, Alec, your such a liar,’ he says and sits up, moving from my lap.

Suddenly the children in the cages begin to yawn and wake up. They look around in confusion as to why they are in cages. A swirl of light wraps around Ember before a puff of smoke explodes, revealing Ember back in her witch form. She jumps up and down and hugs all the witches and even the nearby tree with excitement. We all laugh.

Queen Maia heals Damon and then Quinn. Then they approach us, along with the rest of the guardians.

Quinn jumps onto my lap and wraps her arms around my neck,

‘Nina!’ she says.

Quinn!’ I say, wrapping my arms tightly around her.

We smile at each other.

The other vampires and werewolves release all the vampires, werewolves and children from the cages. Everyone gathers and hugs each other. Nadia, Boomer and Krug run up to Quinn. They all tumble over together from the impact, laugh, and cry happily together.

Alec stares at Magnus, ‘Why would you call me a liar?’ he says, unhappy with the accusation.

‘You said you saved me because you didn’t want Nina to live for eternity without me, but I have a feeling it is you who would miss me just as much,’ Magnus smirks.

Alec looks away and bites his lip. The look on Alec’s face makes me realise that Magnus was right. That Alec would actually miss Magnus.

‘Fine,’ he huffs. ‘I’ll admit I would miss you just a little bit, and that’s all, and it would be boring not having you around to argue and fight with,’ he confesses.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing, and my mouth drops open. Then suddenly, Magnus lunges at Alec. They fall onto the ground, and Magnus hugs him.

‘Get off me, Magnus! What are you doing!’ Alec shouts.

‘Clearly, I’m hugging you,’ he laughs.

‘But why?’ Alec asks.

‘You could have let me die. You could have had Nina all to yourself for all of eternity, but instead, you made a selfless decision and brought me back even though it meant sharing Nina,’ he says.

Magnus gets off Alec and holds his hand out to help Alec up, ‘We are officially brothers now,’ Magnus says.

Alec stares at Magnus’s hand for a moment. He then takes it and stands up, ‘Brothers!’ he smiles.

My heart flutters at witnessing the brotherly love and truce between my two soul mates.

‘What happens now,’ Yiselda asks, placing her hand on my shoulder.

I smile at her and walk over to the trinket box. As an extra precaution, I pull the key from my pocket and lock the box. Although it’s not necessary, it adds to my peace of mind. I return to Yiselda and place the box and key in her hands.

‘You shall return to your fate, Yiselda. Living in Pandora’s box once more, where you shall guard the evils of this world and keep them at bay in the dungeons of your Covenstead,’ I smile.

Yiselda’s face lights up, and she nods, ‘Thank you, Nina. Nothing could make me happier than to live the life I once had and have always known,’ she says.

The children laugh and giggle as they chase the dragons and ride on their backs. We all watch with smiles to see that peace has once again been restored to Mysteria, even if it meant at the cost of some of us having to change our fates.

Magnus taps my shoulder and points behind me. My smile widens to see Pipsqueak and Zak approaching gingerly as they hold hands.

‘Nina!’ Zak says.

‘You’ve grown wings!’ Pipsqueak exclaims with delight.

‘That I have,’ I smile at them.

‘So,’ Zak says nonchalantly. ‘What have we missed,’ he asks.

We all look at one another and burst into laughter.

‘Nothing much,’ I smirk. ‘Nothing much at all.’

With Moon Crest Castle destroyed, Queen Maia and King Damon decided to live in West Wallow Keep, the castle her parents once ruled and once resided in. Six months later, Queen Maia gave birth to a baby princess named Lilly. Ember, Vivian and her family decided to stay with Queen Maia along with Sir Hugo, who was excited to return to training the young orcs.

Magnus, Alec and I returned to Emerald Island to live. I created a portal from West Wallow Keep to Emerald Island so Queen Maia and I could port through to see each other daily.

I decided that each year at each midsummer solstice, I would enter through the veil to the celestial world, where I would spend that time with my fellow deities Selene, Ogrun, Cerridwen and Valkrim. To Selene’s sadness, Atlanta had the same fate as Thypon, sealed forever in the crystal ball.

Lilac, Ela, Ria and Fern, along with their familiars, decided to return to Pandora’s box to live with Yiselda.

Kadva’s partner asked him to move in with him into his cottage in Wolfwell, where Flynn remained Alpha with his sister Josie and parents Astrid and Ryker by his side.

All Mysteria’s guardians would reunite and celebrate over a great feast each year.

It’s been two years since we sealed Thypon. I’m currently at our second reunion of the guardians, with Alec next to me on one side and Magnus on the other side of me.

I look over at Lilly, who’s now a toddler and runs about the room and return my smile to everyone at the table,

Quinn approaches me. She has grown so much in the last two years. She hugs me gently, and Alec peers over my shoulder as we part.

‘You never told me what fairy dust is made of,’ he says.

I smile, lean toward him and whisper in his ear, ‘The main ingredient is the fumes of a fairy,’ I smirk.

‘Fumes of a fairy?’ he says loudly, gaining everyone’s attention. Suddenly he pales and stares at Quinn, who blushes and laughs, shaking her head. We all burst into laughter.
