Filed To Story: Returning to Her Not-So-Poor Family
“We heard that professors from Summerfield College and Helgen College came to recruit the student, what offers did they make, and who did the top student choose in the end?” another reporter asked.
Is your child the only one in 12th grade in the whole Reflections Villa? Is it Serena?” A third reporter asked.
The questions just kept coming.
“Can we meet the top student?”
“Can we take a picture of the top student? Can you open the door?”
Louisa elegantly raised her hand to silence them and smiled, “Thank you all for your concern, the top student does indeed live with us. Her name is Mirabella Collins and she scored full marks. We just learned from the professor at Summerfield College that she is the only student in the country with a perfect score!”
Upon hearing this, the crowd erupted into a frenzy. Everyone took out their cameras to capture the moment.
“Apart from her name and score, I hope you won’t publish any unrelated information, like her family background, photos and so on. Our child prefers to keep a law profile and doesn’t like to attract attention.”
Everyone was stunned, they had not expected the daughter of the country’s richest man to be so humble. Her name was Mirabella. They had always thought the rich man only had one daughter named Serena Collins.
Although they had not seen the top student in person but with such a good background, surely, she must be beautiful too!
The reporters were quick sing to praises and thanked Louisa.
“She must be a girl who combines beauty with intelligence!”
“Thank you for sharing, Mrs. Collins, you’re really fortunate to have an outstanding daughter like Serena and a brilliant daughter like Mirabella.”
“Congratulations, Mrs. Collins.”
“Congratulations
Even though it was their first time hearing about Mirabella, it was common for those wealthy people to protect their children and keep them out of the public eye.
For instance, some would send their children abroad for education and only bring them back once they have reached adulthood.
Others would raise their children elsewhere in the country for their own safety and only reveal their identities when the time was right.
Everyone might have heard about Serena, but Mirabella might have been studying abroad all along and only returned after the college entrance examination, so it was normal for them not to be familiar with her.
As Mrs Collins had said not to discuss family background and other matters, they could only ask simple questions.
In no time, the topic “Mirabella Scores Perfect on Exam” shot up to the top spot on the trending tab.
Mirabella returned to her room and found a bunch of unread messages on her phone. She responded to Romeo McMillian first.
“I had a visit from a professor at Summerfield College earlier, but I’ve decided on Westerly College.”
Romeo quickly gave her a call, his voice filled with surprise and affection. “Was that perfect score in the exam yours?”
Mirabella raised an eyebrow. “News travels fast, huh?” she thought.
The reporters had left less than ten minutes ago, and the news was already everywhere.
“You’re awesome, Bella.” Romeo praised sincerely.
Mirabella smiled, “You’re not half bad yourself.”
Romeo was taken aback. So, did Mirabella know all along that he was the perfect scorer from seven years ago? Had she looked it up, or had she noticed back then? “Westerly College is a good choice, it’s close to me.” Romeo replied with a chuckle, “I like watching you save people. You look so serious, so beautiful.”
“So, I’m not good looking normally?”
“You’re always good looking, but you have a special charm when you’re saving people.”
Mirabella smiled, “What if I had chosen a school abroad?,”
“Then I’d move to work abroad. Wherever you are, that’s home for me.”
“Won’t that be tiring?” Mirabella understood that, while communication may be done online or over the phone, dealing with problems would still necessitate going back home. The back and forth could take some time.
“What if I don’t step up, and when you go to university, you meet some bright, handsome guys and forget about me?”
Mirabella could not help but laugh at his words.
“I don’t want to lose such a cute, beautiful, amazing fiancée because of distance.”
“The guys in university are too young.”
Jeher, they were too immature, like a bunch of little brothers. She couldn’t be attracted to them.
She smiled and said, “I prefer someone more mature.”
Romeo asked eagerly, “Do I, your fiancé, qualify as mature?”
Mirabella answered without hesitation, “You’re pretty mature, but sometimes you can be childish.
“Childish?” Romeo thought.
“Is it when I’m clingy?” he then asked.
“Mhm.”
}
“Can’t help it, you’re too adorable. Being with you is just so joyful.” Romeo sincerely said, “I’m so happy, I want to be with you all the time.”
At that moment, Mirabella’s heart felt like a tipped–over honey jar, but she still said, “I need to reply to my brother’s message. He’s waiting.”
“I’ll call you later then.”
“Okay.” Mirabella said calmly, “I’ll hang up now.”
After hanging up, Mirabella told her brother the good news, then opened up Grandpa Beck’s WhatsApp and replied to a few messages.
In WhatsApp, there was also a congratulatory message from Kelly Piper. After replying, Mirabella opened the next unread message
It was from one of her former teachers.
“Mirabella, I saw the news. You’re amazing! I am so proud of you!”
Mirabella flashed a smile, “Thanks. I was just doing my thing.”
Her teacher knew she had always been a brainiac. In the mock exams back at school, she’d ace all the short answers, only avoiding essay writing and long responses.
But this time, she had to tackle the essays and long answers, so it was not surprising that she got a perfect score.
“I know,” her teacher said. “If the total score was a thousand, you’d still ace it! You’re one smart cookie and I’m sure you’ll do great things in the future. Maybe the principal will ask you to give a speech at school to motivate other students. I hope you’d agree to it.”
“Certainly.”
After answering her teacher, Mirabella received a news notification. Her story was blowing up online. Underneath the news, loads of people were dropping comments. There were over 300k comments.
“This top student is dope! But why no photos?”
“If her grades are so good, she must be average–looking, right? Is that why the reporters won’t release her photo?”
“Is she a short, chubby girl with a face full of pimples?”
“Ah, don’t ruin my image of a top student!”
“Does anyone know which university she has chosen?”
“I heard that this badass student turned down Summerfield College and Helgen College. Does she have a better choice?”
“Are there even better schools than Summerfield and Helgen?
The admissions officer at Westerly College had just returned to school when President Barton put down his teacup and excitedly said, “Quick, post the news that Mirabella has agreed to come to our Westerly College online, in case she changes her mind!”
