As we sat and talked and cleared the air, I noticed Asteria had gotten extremely quiet. “Sis, are you alright?” I asked. She adamantly shook her head no, and said the pain was getting intense. She said she could feel Simon’s fear, and the pain he was going through. Mom came to where we were and said that the three of us needed to hold hands to help channel the intensity of the pain that Asteria was feeling. “Asteria, honey. I have a feeling it is about to get really bad. More than likely, Maddix has the upper hand and Simon’s death is imminent. I’m not going to lie, sweetie, but from what I have heard and understand, the death of a mate hurts worse than rejection,” mom explained.

Asteria expressed how she didn’t care if he died, because he wasn’t a kind person. He wasn’t who he portrayed himself to be, and that his wolf was not like Simon. “Slade is a kind wolf, and obediently obeys his human vessel. Maybe death will set Slade free. I know it will set me free,” she whispered.

Not long after she made that comment, Asteria let out a shrill scream and grabbed her chest. She slid to the floor and pulled her knees into her chest. “MOM! Oh, my goddess mom! It hurts so badly!” she cried. Mom yelled at Alette and me to hold onto her, making sure our skin touched. We did as we were told, and I wrapped my arms around hers, and Alette grabbed her legs and started to rub them.

The screaming continued until Asteria ended up passing out. Celeste and Lindy helped get Asteria onto a couch, and placed a blanket over her. Alette and I took turns rubbing her bare legs, making sure at least one of us had skin to skin contact at all times.

Mom had started to pace the room, and I knew she was getting restless. She could feel the pain my dads were experiencing, as well as my brothers. “I can’t take this anymore!” she exclaimed. She ran to the false panel door, and punched in a code. The door flew open and she ran out.

Out of fear and concern, Alette took off after her. I wanted to chase after them, but in my condition, there was no way I could. Besides, who was going to help Alette?

After a while, I decided to peek my head out of the door to see if I could see anything. I could see outside the doors, and there stood Miles and, surprisingly, George. What was happening? Miles had Alette by her hair, and George had a knife to mom’s throat.

I snuck back inside the bunker and explained what was happening to the others. I asked Riley, Celeste and Lindy to watch over Asteria and I walked back out of the room. At this time, I could see my brothers and family pleading for them to let mom and Alette go. Henry even begged George to think about what he was doing. To where George didn’t even acknowledge his brother.

I listened to the exchange of words, and quietly walked out of the library door. Henry made one more attempt to reason with his brother, and Miles took a claw and stabbed Alette in the stomach. All I could think of was my sister’s pups, and that he had killed them.

I could feel Ariel, my wolf, coming forward, and she moved us behind Miles. The last thing I remember was her driving my hand through the back of his chest and ripping out his heart. As he fell to the ground next to my sister, my vision finally focused on my brother, Maddix. I couldn’t due to the shock of what I had done. I remember calling out to my brother, and the my world went black.

*MADDIX POV*

Watching Miles fall to the ground, and Adelina standing behind him with his heart in his hands, I wasn’t sure what to do. I wanted to run to her, but there was also the situation where George had my mom.

We grew up with George, and mom was like a second mother to him. I went to yell at one of the warriors to grab George and get my mom, but Henry had beat them to it. He had approached George, and simply took my mom out of his arms. Something was off, and I think Henry sensed it as much as I did. This was so out of character for George, and there had to be more to the story.

I knew I wouldn’t give George any leeway in this situation, but I was willing to hear him out. Only after I made sure my family was alright.

“Maddix,” I heard Adelina gasp, and she started to fall to the ground. One of the warriors caught her, and I had him carry her to the hospital. Damian trailed behind us with Alette in his arms, and I could feel the worry exuding from him. He hurried past us, and I told him that she was going to be alright, to keep faith. He just shook his head and kept running.

We had killed all but 25 of Northern Sun’s warriors, and those 25 surrendered to Blood Moon. We didn’t have quite enough space to facilitate them all, so Jason was going to take the majority.

I was able to speak to four of the warriors, and they were lead to believe that we were holding their Luna captive. It was expressed that if they had known the information was false, they might have fought against Miles instead of with him. They respected my sisters, and those I spoke to, would rather follow their rule than the men who had just died any day.

Though they still pledged their loyalties to my sisters, it didn’t change the fact that they were still prisoners of war. I couldn’t just release them, not without full investigation. Plus, I wasn’t sure what to do with Northern Sun at the moment. Not until I talked to Adelina. Technically, since she took Miles’ life, she is now their Alpha.
