I’d been exhausted. My mind was filled with a million thoughts.
Emotions clouded my judgement.
But why it happened didn’t matter.
I’d lost.
I was about to die.
Blake closed the distance between us, and a soft cry left my lips as he reached towards me.
“Don’t touch me!” I sobbed, closing my eyes shut.
He wasn’t going to listen.
He was going to mark me like he did to Lia.
And then I’d lose all sense of reason.
Something clicked, and I gasped, my eyes shooting open.
I glanced down to realise he’d unlocked the door.
My eyebrows pulled together as I glanced up at him.
Blake stared back at me with a calm look on his face.
“I wasn’t going to keep you in here another night, Caitlyn,” he said softly, although it sounded like it pained him to talk. “Come on, I’ll lead you to your actual room.”
I blinked.
Once. Twice.
He… he didn’t hit me. Or slam me against the wall and bury his teeth into my neck.
He didn’t even shout or threaten me.
Why didn’t he look mad anymore?
He slowly reached for my hand, and I flinched, pulling it away from him.
“I won’t hurt you,” he said, then finally grabbing my wrist.
I held my breath, waiting for his hold to tighten until my bone would snap. Waiting for him to twist my wrist. Or to do anything violent at all.
All he did was step back, lead me away from the door and open it.
“Come on, sweetheart, use your feet. I can’t pick you up with my neck bleeding.”
Something about the way he was acting made me oblige.
I didn’t pull my hand again. I didn’t try to run away as he led me out of the room, into a brightly lit corridor of a huge house. Or mansion.
I followed him quietly like a little puppy as we passed by rooms, laughter and chatter spilling from a few doors.
My eyes scanned the surroundings.
Everything was so… normal.
It made my head spin.
Blake stopped before a large oakwood door, and pushed it open, gesturing for me to step inside.
I hesitated, glancing at him again.
“I won’t harm you, Caitlyn.” He sighed. “Please. Come on. I need to go see the pack doctor.”
Something told me that trying him right now, after I slashed his neck, wasn’t a good idea.
My attack barely slowed him down. And I was clearly in his pack house. A place full of werewolves who practically worshipped him.
I couldn’t escape right now.
I should’ve known this. I should’ve played smarter.
But now I would.
With my heart in my mouth, I stepped inside the bedroom, looking around.
There were windows. There was a door to probably a washroom. No cameras. A bookshelf. A fireplace.
A normal, cosy looking room that didn’t seem to be hiding any secrets. And did not seem like a prison cell.
Blake followed in after me, gently closing the door behind him.
“You like it? You can let me know if you want anything changed.”
I turned to him, my eyes narrowed. “You’re talking like I’m gonna be staying here for a long time.”
“That’s because you are,” he replied.
“No,” I stated. “I’m not. And you know that.”
Blake slowly lowered his hand from his neck, and my eyes widened, realising he’d already healed.
He was still covered in blood though, so it didn’t make the sight any less gory.
“You can try escaping, Caitlyn. You can try attacking me as many times as you want. You can’t do much harm here, sweetheart.” He started to walk towards me, and I backed away, watching his every move. “This isn’t The Order’s den. You don’t have me drugged and poisoned with wolfsbane and silver. You can search the entire house; you won’t find a single weapon you can use against me.” The back of my knees hit the bed, and I froze. Blake stopped right in front of me, his green eyes boring into mine. “This is my house. My town. My pack. You’re not getting out of here unless I want you to. So your best bet is to cooperate with me. I won’t mark you. I won’t assault you. I will not do anything harmful or inappropriate to you. I promise. But please, don’t force me to keep you locked up. Act like a guest, and I’ll treat you like one. Act like a prisoner, and don’t be surprised to find yourself in a cage. Do you understand?”
A shiver crawled through me, and my throat burned, vision blurring with tears.
I quickly blinked them back, and looked away from him, gritting my teeth.
“Rest now,” he said, stepping away. “It’s late. I’ll see you tomorrow morning. Hopefully, you’ll have come to your senses by then.”
With that, he left the room, closing the door behind him but not bothering to lock it.
Somehow, I felt more suffocated now than I did in that cell.
A choked sob left my lips, and I allowed myself to break down.
There were no cameras watching me anymore.
-LIA’S POV-
The annoying honk of his car rang outside, and my stomach exploded with butterflies as I rushed down the stairs. Before, I’d taken it all for granted. But now, every moment with him felt like a dream.
I opened the door, yelling a quick bye so my parents would know I was leaving, but stopped when Zane approached the doorstep.
And he didn’t come empty handed.
He had flowers.
A small bouquet of yellow daisies wrapped in brown paper, like he was trying to be fancy and adorable at the same time.
I stared at him for a good five seconds before I realised I was smiling way too hard.
“You bought me flowers?” I said, already taking them from him.
“You said you missed normal.” He shrugged, like this was no big deal. “So I figured I’d do something cheesy and date-like.”
My heart fluttered in my chest, everything inside me warming up.
Behind me, Mom made a soft sound. The one that meant she was very pleased and would bring this up every time Zane’s name came up now.
“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Snow,” Zane said, stepping forward politely.
Dad squinted at him. “You’re healed.”
My eyes widened a bit as Zane glanced at me.
My parents thought he’d been in a car accident, which is why he hadn’t been picking me up for school.
But Zane nodded calmly. “Almost completely, yes.”
Dad hummed. “Well. Don’t get into another accident. Not with my daughter in your car.”
