Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
I started to chuckle, and it caused my dads and the other Alphas with me to laugh as well. My dad, Liam, stepped forward and said, “Little boy, apparently you need to go and do more research about who is rightfully entitled to the position of Alpha. Maddix may not carry my brother and my blood, but he DOES carry our Luna’s blood. Therefore, he is blood entitled. I don’t know who has taught you anything about being an Alpha, but you have a lot more to learn.”
I finally shifted into a more serious mood, and I stated plainly and clearly when I said to Miles, “There you have it. Asteria wants no part of being Luna or Alpha of Blood Moon. She also wants no part of being your mate any longer, Simon. Her choice, not mine. So, if you want to challenge me for my pack, go ahead. Just be prepared to lose your life, and all those you brought with you, can lose theirs too. What’s it going to be, boys?”
*Maddix POV*
I stood patiently waiting for them to make a decision. They only stood and stared at one another, and I assumed they were talking through a link.
“Come on, I don’t have all day to pussyfoot around with you. Either challenge me, or walk away. No harm, no foul. However, the two of you will need to face both of my sisters to receive your rejection. Well, at least Simon. Miles, you will have to wait until Adelina gives birth, so no harm comes to your five children,” I said with a devilish smirk.
I knew that bringing his children into the mix would cause a rise, and I wasn’t about to let them just walk away after coming to my pack prepared to attack them without me present. He was putting women, elderly and children into a battle that didn’t involve them, and didn’t care.
“Five? That can’t be correct,” he gasped. He looked at Simon and his Beta shrugged his shoulders.
“Oh, I assure you that number is correct. Phoenix had Addie examined by my aunt before we put her under protection. Five beautiful little ones. None of which will ever know who you are. I will make sure of it. You will accept her rejection, if you don’t die first, and give her a chance to live a good life. Not one where she is treated like a mere vessel to carry your pups, or a punching bag for your fists,” I replied.
His shoulders straightened, and his body went stiff. “What? You didn’t think I would find out about that? Oh, and Simon, I know what you have done to Asteria as well. They trust me, and told me every last sorted detail. With that alone I should kill you where you stand,” I spat.
The two men looked at each other once more. Simon whipped his head to look at me once again and said, “Fuck you Maddix. What I do to and with my mate isn’t any of your damn business. I, Simon Green, challenge you, Alpha Maddix Young, for the title of Alpha of Blood Moon. The stipulation for the challenge is, to the death!”
An evil grin spread across my face, and I turned to my Gamma. “Have our warriors lead his people to the training grounds,” I told him. I then looked at my dads and asked them to officiate the challenge. They agreed and as we walked towards the grounds, Damian grabbed my arm. “Maddix, you know they aren’t going to fight fair. I have a bad feeling about this,” he said.
I shook my head and told him not to worry. I had already assumed they wouldn’t fight fair, and had linked Timmy and Gunner to having the training fields surrounded by the Blood Moon and the ally warriors. After I explained what I had done, Damian slapped me on my back and said, “Seems you have thought of everything. That’s the sign of a good Alpha. Staying one step ahead.”
Arriving at the training grounds, I took my place on my side of the challenge. Simon took his, and my dads walked to the center. After looking in both of our directions, my dad, Loki, spoke.
“Alright, we all know why we are here today. Personally, I think it’s a waste of time because we all know what is going to happen, but here we are. Simon Green, Beta of Northern Sun, has challenged Alpha Maddix Young for his title as Alpha of the Blood Moon pack. He had given the stipulation of death, and the only way to win is if your opponent dies by your hand. Any outside interference will cause an immediate stop of the challenge, and it will be considered null and void. At that point, the person who interfered and the person they helped will be imprisoned and sentenced to death per the rules and stipulations of the challenge. Are we clear boys?” he stated.
Both Simon and I agreed that we understood, and I noticed that Damian had moved closer to where Miles was standing. I knew he would make sure Miles was kept under control, but honestly, it wasn’t Miles I was worried about. It was the warriors he had stationed outside our borders in hiding.
My dads exited the area, and were now standing on the sidelines. Liam held up his hand and when it dropped, Loki sounded the air horn to begin.
I have prepared most of my life for challenges and battles, and the first thing my dads taught me was to never make the first attack. Watch your opponent, learn their mannerisms, and wait for them to strike first. Especially in a challenge.
The lack of training Simon has had is evident in his movements. I felt like this was going to be too easy, but didn’t want to underestimate him either. Instead of trying to tire me down before shifting, he instantly shifted. Stupid mistake. His wolf, Slade, stood at the opposite side of me snarling as if he was about to attack. Just looking at the ginger colored wolf I knew he was no match for Dakota. Size alone was a huge one.
