Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
The car following us was quickly gaining on us. Adelina had received a text from Miles, and he threatened to kill her and the babies if she didn’t have me pull over, so she could leave with his men. She shut off her phone, and told me to drive faster. She was determined to get away from them, and Miles.
We were about a mile away from the gates when she noticed the car pulled over to the side of the road. The driver and passenger got out and watched us drive away.
“Why would they pull over like that?” she asked. The only thing I could think of was that they knew that with only 4 of them, they were no match for a whole pack.
“Thank you, Phoenix. I’m sorry for all the trouble I have caused everyone. I was just afraid,” she whispered. I grabbed her hand and said, “Adelina Rose. Everyone will understand the fact that you were afraid, but I’m sure a hard conversation is going to arise with the whole family. It’s up to you to be totally transparent and honest with them about your reasoning for not giving them some kind of heads up. Even if it was just something as simple as slipping a note of warning to one of them. I wasn’t there for it all, I had to get back to the hospital here, but from what I have heard from Loki, you hurt a lot of people with your actions.”
She hung her head, and started to shed tears. She didn’t say much of anything else, but I knew she felt immense guilt for the drama she helped cause.
Once through the gates, I took an alternate route towards the pack house and pack center so that she could calm down a little bit. When the sniffles stopped, I drove to our destination. I told her we had some time, and that I would like it if Roxy could check on her pups before going into the safe room. She had been through a lot in the past 48 hours and the goddess knows how long prior to her arriving at Spirit Mountain.
She said she would like that, and asked if I could come with her. I agreed and asked if I should call Lindy. She said she would like that, and she was the one to call my mate. I could hear her squeal at the other end, and said she would meet us there.
By the time Lindy got there, Adelina was already laid on the exam bed, and Roxy was hooking up the ultrasound machine. I noticed my mate was fidgety, and I asked if she was OK. She just smiled, and kept paying attention to what our aunt was doing.
“Alright, Adelina, let’s look at what we have here,” Roxy said as she moved the wand around. Roxy tilted her head and started to count. “Baby 1, Baby 2 Baby 3, Baby 4. Oh, my. We have a hider. Adelina, you have 5 precious and active babies. Were you aware?” she asked.
By the look on my sister’s face, she did not. She explained what she had been told by Northern Star’s OB/GYN, and Roxy quickly told her that he was wrong. All the babies were small, but not to the point of worry. After the shock of the actual number of babies she was carrying wore off, she asked Roxy what she needed to do to make sure they all made it.
Roxy told her to just take it as easy as possible, eat well, and stay as stress-free as she could. Addie gave her a chuckle, and replied, “Stress-free, huh? I don’t see that happening any time soon.”
Roxy just hugged her tight, and told her that things would get better. She had all the faith in the world that Blood Moon and the others would come out on top. We all hoped she was right, and deep down, we all knew the Northern Sun was coming here to be massacred. As we walked out, a thought came to me.
“Addie? You are aware that, since you are a sworn in Luna of Northern Star, if Miles, Simon and any of his other higher ups are killed during this you become the one in charge of Northern Sun, right? I asked.
Another revelation she hadn’t thought of. Hopefully, she was ready.
*Maddix POV*
Curious as to why the men Miles had sent to track Adelina were left lying dead on the ground, I linked the head guard at the gates to my pack. He said that no one had left Blood Moon, and no one had made any attempt to approach the car.
“Luke, can you or Ginger see what might have happened?” I asked. Ginger responded with one word, “Miles.” I sighed and told her that she didn’t need to elaborate, and then shook my head. I don’t understand why he would kill his own men. The only explanation was that Adelina had gotten away from them.
Driving through the pack gates, I stopped to speak to the guards. Henry had already sent extra patrols to assist around the borders, and I wanted to make sure they were completely filled in on their orders. I gave them final orders and sped off towards the library.
