“Mates,” she spat, sending a shiver through me.

Not at the word, but at her tone.

That was a lot of negative energy.

“That you and I are mates. I won’t be fooled by your petty tricks, Blake. I’d rather starve than eat from my enemy’s hand.”

I let out a soft sigh.

This was going to be even harder than I’d suspected before.

-LIA’S POV-

After a long and excruciating wait, the last period finally ended and I was free to leave the school premises.

I rushed out, grinning when his car approached me.

Ajax rolled down the window, offering me a smile.

“Hi, Luna,” he teased.

“Shut up, it’s Lia,” I replied, walking around the car and climbing into the passenger seat.

“Where would you like to go today? Do you wish to go shopping? Grab lunch or coffee? How about your favourite mall to do all three?”

“Ajax,” I warned, narrowing my eyes. “Take me to Zane.”

“Hmm,” he continued his tactics to earn a slap to his head, “I’m hungry. I really think we should-

“Ajax,” I said in a low tone, cutting him off. “To Zane. Only to Zane. Immediately.”

He chuckled now, starting to pull away from the school. “Alright, alright. Please don’t command me, Goddess Lia-the

Moonborn.”

I smiled at him, but the words sent a shiver through me.

Moonborn.

It sounded pretty cool if I was being honest.

Lia, the Moonborn.

Goddess Lia-Bender of Wills.

Lia Snow-the Moon’s Lost daughter.

It was exhilarating to think that was now my reality.

This wasn’t some fairytale story-book or a wild fantasy movie.

This was real life.

My new reality-my identity.

Just a few months back, I’d been a mere nerd. A girl who kept to herself, had barely any friends she could rely on, and got bullied by the same people she now held the power to command.

Even without my own abilities, just being their Alpha’s mate, their Luna, gave me the right to issue orders.

A part of me still couldn’t believe it.

“How was school today?” Ajax asked, pulling me from my thoughts.

“It was… good, I guess,” I said honestly.

“Why? Did something happen?”

“No. Nothing.”

“You sounded like your day sucked.”

“Well, it did,” I replied, nodding. “Nothing feels good without Zane.”

Ajax groaned. “You guys and your obsession with your mates. It’s a little desperate.”

I narrowed my eyes again, amused. “Oh, so it’s desperate?”

“Yes,” he replied.

“You say that because-

“I haven’t found my mate,” he cut in, tone full of sarcasm. “I know. That’s what Warner, Aaron, Sheila and Zane keep telling me.”

I laughed. “Why Warner though? He doesn’t have his mate yet.”

“Yeah, but he might’ve found a potential one.”

“A potential… mate?” I asked.

“Yeah. There’s a witch in love with him.”

My eyebrows shot up now. “A witch? Those exist too?”

“Of course,” he said as if it was obvious. “How else do you think your true identity was hidden for sixteen years? How did it not reveal itself before?”

“So you’re saying my mother went to a witch to hide my powers?” I asked.

“Yes. That is probably what happened.” He nodded, as we pulled into the driveway of the pack house.

“Zane didn’t tell me that,” I said.

“After everything that went down, he probably wanted you to catch a break.”

A small smile stretched across my lips. “Yeah. You’re right. He probably wanted that.”

At once, even though we weren’t even at the door yet, his scent hit my nose, making me sigh and sink into my seat.

“Goddess,” I whispered, “he’s delicious.”

Ajax made a gutteral sound. “Imagine saying that to your mom.”

I rolled my eyes. “We’re past these jokes, Ajax.”

He smirked, parking the car right in front of the main door. “You wish, Luna. How often do we meet the moon’s daughter?”

“Not often,” I shook my head.

“Exactly.”

I smiled, then undid my seatbelt. “Thanks for the ride, Jax. I missed him so much.”

Zane would sweep me into his arms the second he’d see me, and then he’d litter my face with kisses, before moving onto the mark. The feeling would be surreal, no matter how many times I’d experienced it before.

Every time I saw him, I wished I could stay with him. Just be with him for the rest of my life already. In his house, in his pack house, in his arms. I wanted to be surrounded by him at all time.

I stepped out the car and rushed inside the pack house, my heart thumping wildly with excitement.

A few wolves paused as soon as I entered, stopping whatever they were doing and bowing their heads deeply.

I froze mid-step, my gaze sweeping over them.

There was nothing but pure devotion radiating from their bodies.

My heart raced further.

I opened my mouth to speak, but didn’t know what to say.

And Zane’s scent was more powerful here.

I wanted him.

I rushed past them, through the hall and up the stairs, making my way straight to his bedroom. He’d been moved here from Emerald’s two days ago, so thankfully, we had complete privacy. whenever I went to see him.

I rushed inside his bedroom, to find him standing in front of the mirror, staring at himself.

I grinned, waiting for him to turn to me and open his arms.
