I smiled.

Later, I returned to the dining room to have lunch with Beta Ken and the kids.

But when Sky didn’t show up for evening tea and dinner, I felt uneasy. After putting the children to bed, I decided to check on him. His room was on the second floor, as I approached I heard Sky talking to someone on the phone.

“Didn’t I promise I’d pay you the money! Why are you calling me like I’ll run away?!”

Sky shouted, throwing his phone to the floor in anger, where it landed on my foot. He slowly lifted his eyes to find me standing on his doorstep.

“Willow…”

His face paled when he noticed me.

“Sky…did you…did you start gambling again?”

My voice trembled with shock as I stared at him with wide eyes.

When I joined the Wade Moon Pack, Sky struggled with a gambling addiction. It had angered Alpha Benjamin, considering Sky was the future Alpha of the pack. Over time, as Sky and I became friends, he had ceased gambling for my sake, focusing on the pack and business. However, what I had just heard was a sudden and shocking revelation.

“Willow… I’m sorry. I couldn’t stop myself,”

Sky dropped to his knees. “My business was on the verge of bankruptcy. I’d invested so much in it and couldn’t afford to lose it. So… so I gambled at the shifters’ gambling house and lost everything,”

his voice quivered, tears welling in his eyes.

“What…”

My legs felt weak. “What did you gamble, Sky? What did you lose?”

I managed to approach him and I knelt in front of him.

He slowly raised his gaze to meet mine, and my heart raced with anticipation before he uttered the most devastating outcome possible, “Wade Moon Pack.”

“You lost the Wade Moon Pack?”

My eyes widened, a chill racing down my spine. “You gambled your father’s pack?!”

I gasped in horror. He gambled the land that he grew up on?

Sky broke down completely, crawling closer to me. “Willow, please don’t tell my father. Please…”

He gripped both my hands in his cold trembling ones.

My entire body turned cold as I listened to his begging. I stared at him in shocked disbelief for a moment before asking, barely above a whisper, “To whom did you lose the Wade Moon Pack?”

He looked at me with red teary eyes and said, “The Emerald Bright Pack.”

Around midnight, the drizzle that had been hanging over the pack intensified into heavy rain. The cold wind crept through the window, opening and closing the curtain in front of it, as I remained engrossed in the document in my hand, unfazed by the lightning and thunder outside. While the entire pack slumbered, I found myself unable to sleep, instead I delved into work.

Six years ago, Willow had not run away alone. She stole my heart, mind, soul, and sleep. I was lucky to catch a few hours of sleep, and whenever I dreamed, it was always about her. Now that I had finally found her, I could not get even a wink, as my wolf was agitated by the distance separating us. The thought of her staying in someone else’s pack and home while ignoring me was unbelievably nerve-wracking.

Clenching my fists, I tightly closed my eyes, attempting to rein in the urges of my baser side that sought to act upon thoughts that I shouldn’t even entertain. A couple of seconds later, just as I gained control over myself, my entire being was struck by a familiar sensation. My eyes shot wide open and my wolf came to full attention in my mind.

I stood up, rushed out of my study then out of the packhouse at lightning speed. The growing feeling inside led me out into the heavy rain, soaking my entire body in a second, but all my attention was focused on the figure emerging from the woods ahead.

A slender figure with a beautiful face with clothes that were soaked through came into view, causing my heartbeat to quicken.

‘Mate, Dex’s voice was barely above a whisper in my head, he was completely mesmerized by Willow, just like me.

A wolf guarding the borders mind-linked me, “Alpha, a she-wolf that fits the description you have been giving us for the past 6 years has intruded into the pack just now.”

‘I know… We drew closer to each other until we were merely a hand’s breadth away from each other. That was when she locked eyes with me, my heart began to race like crazy. She was not a figment of my imagination. She was really standing there in front of me.

“Why did you do it?”

she asked, her lips trembling from the cold and glistening with raindrops.

“I did nothing,”

I replied, meeting her slightly reddened eyes, rimmed with rain-soaked lashes.

“Liar!”

she snapped, lifting her hand as if to slap me, only to hesitate halfway there when I neither evaded nor attempted to stop her.

“Hit me if you want,”

I stepped closer until we were inches apart. “But my answer will remain the same,”

I whispered. Willow’s blue eyes snapped with fire as she looked deep into mine. She lightly bit her lip, knowing that I wasn’t one to hide my actions, be they good or bad. If I did something, I’d admit to it without hesitation. Slowly, she lowered her hand. “Then is it a lie that you hold the papers for the Wade Moon Pack?”

Her voice was soft, but her eyes were filled with sparks.

“I do have them,”

I confessed.

“Even though just now you said you did nothing,”

she frowned.

“Come with me,”

I grabbed her hand and started leading her inside.

“Where?”

she panicked.

“Inside the packhouse.”

“I am not going in there,”

she protested, trying to break free from my grasp. “Whatever you want to say, say it out here!”

She stubbornly stood her ground. I stopped and stared at her.

“I don’t mind talking out here in the rain, but I can’t guarantee how long I’ll be able to control myself,”
