Chapter 178 – Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry

Unfortunately, I knew what she said was the truth. Grandma more than likely already knew what was going on, and already knew the outcome. Either way, I was going to be without a mate, and I had accepted that.

It wasn’t long after that she left us. The calm that filled the room before she passed on wrapped itself around me. I swore I could even hear her say, “It will work out in the end, my runt. I love you,” as she took her last breath.

*Alette POV*

Well, now that I have been filled in with what is going on, I can’t say I am thrilled. I can’t even say I fully understand what is happening. All I know is that my sister’s mates are lunatics, and are coming for my family and our pack. They were dumber than I thought.

Maddix filled Damian and I in over dinner, and my mom was more upset than all of us combined. She had a run in with Adelina before she left, and all our mom could keep saying was, “She better feel lucky, because if she wasn’t pregnant with my grandchildren, I would have whooped her ass.”

“So, are we preparing for war?” I asked. Maddix nodded his head and said, “Well, Blood Moon is. You are staying put right here where it’s safe.” I shook my head at him, and replied, “I didn’t mean me, I meant the pack. You know Spirit Mountain is behind you all the way, right?” I looked at my mate and he eagerly nodded his head.

“She’s right, Maddix. Spirit Mountain stands beside the Blood Moon pack. If you need us, we are there,” Damian said. Maddix went on to explain how he had spoken to uncle Jason, and he was onboard as well. Luke stood up and told my brother that the stronger witches at Ruby Meadows would fight alongside him, and the older ones could create potions to aid in our battle.

As the dinner ended, the women made their way to the common room to relax, or try to, and the men went to my mate’s office. My heart became very heavy as I recounted the events over the past two days. I am now the Luna of Spirit Mountain, officially. One of my sisters, my triplet, has turned her back on us. The other one is understandably distraught over the events leading up to all of this, and is coming to terms about rejecting her mate. We lost grandma, but gained a sweet little one.

It’s crazy when you think of how there is always a little light when the darkness tries to consume you. This time, I truly felt like the light would drown out the darkness.

I sat down next to Asteria, and wrapped my arm around her. I leaned my head down against hers and said, “Eventually she will come around. She isn’t thinking straight. Once the babies are born and out of harms way, she will come back to us. She has to.”

Asteria just nodded her head and replied, “Sis, even if she doesn’t, it’s alright. She has chosen her path, and we have chosen ours. I am trying not to think of her right now, anyway. I’m thinking more about those little ones in your belly. Are you feeling alright? You have been under some stress the past few days, it’s not good for them, you know?” she said.

I reassured her that I was fine, that we would be fine. Including her. “Asteria, can I ask you a question, and will you be completely truthful with me?” I asked. She nodded her head and I asked my question. “If this hadn’t come up, would you have stayed there with Simon and continued to be treated that way?”

I felt her body deflate, and she sighed. “Probably. I believe in the mate bond so much, and I hoped he would change. Before we came here, though, I saw that it was only going to be worse. He was just like his father. His dad was cruel to his mother and other women around him. It honestly wasn’t until grandma told me that I could only make the hard choices. The right choice. So I did, and I don’t regret it,” she said.

I kissed her forehead before getting up to go to the bathroom, and I felt my phone vibrate. Looking at the screen, my heart dropped. It was Addie.

Addie: Lette, be the sensible one and talk them into doing the right thing. I hate that it’s come to this, but I have no choice but to stand by him right now.

I knew it! She wasn’t there because she wanted to be, but because she felt she had to be. For the safety of her babies.

Me: Adelina, you can walk away and do the right thing. You have so many people who love you and will make sure you and your babies are safe. He won’t hurt you. We won’t let him. Where are you? Damian and I will come get you!

It was close to 20 minutes later when she messaged me back.
