Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
I agreed to their request, but had a feeling it wouldn’t solve anything. We were heading to war, and I was going to have to end my sisters mates. I was completely torn apart about this, but it was my duty to protect my pack and family’s legacy.
Loki stepped away to call the girls, and when he came back, he was furious. “Let’s go speak with Asteria. Adelina has already left and has basically told her mother that we can all fuck off. She is completely taking Miles’ side in this,” he said.
We all left the stable area, and walked to the pack house in silence. I had linked Riley to make her aware of what was going on, and she mentioned that Asteria had locked herself in her room. She said Asteria only mentioned that she had to make a choice and needed to think when Riley asked if she was alright. I told her I was on my way to speak to my sister, and she told me not to treat Asteria as an enemy. She could very well be innocent in this, and spoke the truth. I wanted to believe my mate, but after Adelina’s betrayal, it was hard for me.
Loki knocked on Asteria’s door, and let her know who was with him. He told her to open the door, and after a few minutes she answered. It was visibly obvious that she had been crying, and she was reluctant to let us in. We didn’t wait for her to invite us, and just walked in. Dad demanded her to sit, and asked her if we needed to bring in Luke or mom to determine her lying. She shook her head and reminded dad that I would know if she lied.
He nodded his head, and told her to explain what was going on. He wanted her side of things, and she told him exactly what she had told me earlier. No deterring from the story, and again, I detected no deception. She told us how Miles had convinced Addie and Simon that Miles’ father was the real threat to all the packs in the pacific northwest and needed to be overthrown.
She went on to explain how he convinced Simon that she should be the rightful heir of Blood Moon, and Simon should be Alpha, or co-Alpha at least. She said Miles was amazing at being manipulative and was the master of deception. He had everyone clearly fooled as to what type of person he was, even Adelina.
Asteria even mentioned that Addie was willing to denounce her family to help Miles and Simon. However, she would rather reject her mate than turn on her family. When she said that, I knew she was being honest. Rejecting your mate is some of the worst pain imaginable, and it’s a pain that you may not recover from.
Dakota spoke to me, and said that she was truthful. Her wolf, Akira, had told him that Asteria was hiding things from us. Simon was not nice to her in private. He was abusive. He said he had also spoken to Adelina’s wolf, Ariel. Ariel had told him that Addie no longer responded to the wishes of her wolf. Miles had exceeded any goal he had for brainwashing Addie. She was completely devoted to him, and only him. My heart broke hearing this information.
I passed on what Dakota had said, and Asteria confirmed it. My dads sat back on the sofa, and I could tell they were linking one another, trying to make a decision.
Finally, Liam looked at me and said, “We need to speak with Jason at Starry Moon, Damian and Luke. We are going to need our allies to help. Not only wolves, but witches too. Northern Sun is a powerful pack, but I think we can take them.”
I nodded my head, and told him we needed to fill in the others. He agreed and said that he would ask Damian if we could hold a private dinner tonight, and discuss it then. They needed to leave and see my mother, who was distraught by Addie’s words from earlier. I bid goodbye, and they left Asteria and I sitting there.
“Asteria, it’s time for you to make your choice. I hate that you are in this position, but we can’t go on with you sitting on the fence. Would you really reject Simon?” I asked.
She quickly nodded her head, and said she was tired of the charade. “I can’t keep living like this. What Akira said is true. From the moment we moved to Northern Sun, Simon and Miles changed and not for the better. I would rather go through life with no mate than to live like that any longer. I’m sorry, Maddix. I should’ve said something sooner,” she cried.
I told her we would get her through this, and that it wasn’t her fault. I picked up the phone and called my uncle Jason.
“Jason, it’s Maddix. Blood Moon needs your assistance.”
*Asteria POV*
This was it. My breaking away from abuse. When I first met Simon, he was the sweetest. He was attentive and kind. He treated me as if I was the most precious thing to ever come into his life. However, that all changed after Alette was rescued and Adelina and I moved to Northern Sun.
That’s when the darkness in him started to show through. He would disappear for hours on end. He would come home late at night smelling of whiskey, and the occasional pain I would feel while he was gone told me that he was sleeping with other she-wolves.
