“We just had a meal together, that doesn’t count as a gift. Think about what you really want as a present,” Harley said with a smile. “I don’t have many friends I’m willing to give gifts to, so you better think carefully. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until next year.”

Calvert’s heart suddenly started racing.

Next year? So that meant, she was still with him to celebrate his birthday last year?

And he was secretly thrilled because of these words.

“Could you come with me to the amusement park? I kind of want to check it out,” Calvert said hesitantly.

“An amusement park?” Harley paused, seemingly surprised by the unexpected request. “Are we going now?”

The amusement park in Emerald City was an hour’s drive away. Given that it was already noon when we decided to drive there, we probably arrived close to two in the afternoon.

Usually, if you were planning to go to an amusement park, you would have headed over there bright and early.

“If you’re too busy, just forget I mentioned it. We can talk about it later when you have time…”

“Let’s go to the amusement park then!” Harley said, “Today’s your birthday. After we finish eating, I’ll drive you there.”

Calvert stared blankly at the person in front of him, a complex feeling welling up in his heart.

She really said yes!

She actually agreed to go to the amusement park with him. Did this mean he held a small place in her heart?

Even just a little bit was enough to make him happy!

After the two finished their meal, they got into Harley’s car. However, Harley first drove the car to the entrance of the supermarket.

“Wait for me a second,” Harley said, stepping out of the car and into the supermarket. Moments later, she emerged, her hands filled with a few newly purchased masks.

Harley got in the car and said, “You’ve gained some fame now, so put on a mask later. This way, we can avoid unnecessary trouble.”

Calvert looked down at the mask in her hand, wondering what she meant by “unnecessary trouble”.

Could it have been that she didn’t want others to see her hanging out with him? Was she afraid that rumors might start circulating about them?

Calvert, who was previously happy, now feels somewhat disappointed.

Calvert took the mask and responded, “Okay.”

Once they arrived at the amusement park and bought their tickets, Harley noticed that even with a mask on, Calvert still managed to turn heads.

He was already tall, but after becoming a model, his hairstyle and fashion sense underwent a transformation. Coupled with his deliberate body sculpting and the model’s catwalk stride, he had exuded an overall aura that was even more impressive than before.

Calvert had been like a piece of gold covered in dust before, but then, as the dust was slowly being wiped away, it naturally began to shine with an attractive glow!

If things had kept going like this, they might have played around a bit more and someone might have recognized Calvert.

With that thought, Harley quickly pulled Calvert towards her.

While Calvert was still in a daze, Harley had already pulled him into a nearby shop.

There were quite a few shops in the amusement park, selling related merchandise. Most of these items were fluffy toys and toys printed with cartoon patterns.

“Do you want to buy something?” Calvert asked, somewhat puzzled.

“Mm-hmm.” She responded, leading him to a stack of containers. She picked up a hat with a cartoon pattern on it, then said to him, “Bend down a little.”

Calvert obediently bent down, and Harley placed the hat he was holding onto his head.

Calvert suddenly stiffened, staring blankly at Harley’s face, which was so close to his. He watched her red lips move as she said, “This should cover it up more, hopefully, no one will notice.”

So, she was the one who picked out this hat for him?

His body stiffened even more, simply because her fingers were playing with the hair at the edge of his hat, helping him tidy up his strands.

Because they were so close, he could even feel her breath, fresh and elegant, as if it carried a hint of the morning breeze. He couldn’t help but hold his breath, his heart pounding faster and faster.

“What’s wrong? Why are you so quiet?” Harley’s voice suddenly rang out, snapping Calvert out of his daze.

“Huh? What?”

“What do you think of this hat?” Harley asked. “If you don’t like it, we can look for other colors or styles.

Just keep in mind that most hats you can buy here will probably have cartoon designs.”

“I really like it.” He gently lowered his eyelids, using them to hide the confusion in his eyes, afraid she would see his feelings for her.

Luckily he was still wearing a mask then, otherwise, she would have noticed how red his face had become.

“That’s good.” Harley breathed a sigh of relief, “Let’s buy this hat then.”

“Alright,” he agreed.

When it came time to pay, Harley insisted on picking up the tab.

“How can this be!” Calvert said anxiously.

“What’s stopping us? Today is your birthday, consider this as my birthday gift to you!” she said.

“But you’re already here with me, that’s a birthday gift in itself,” said Calvert.

Harley laughed, “Whoever complained about too many gifts? It’s your birthday today, can’t I spoil you a little more?”

Harley paid the bill and then asked the clerk for a pair of small scissors. He asked Calvert to bend down and cut off the tag from his hat.

Calvert bent over again, bowing in front of Harley.

Harley was carefully using the scissors, and many of the tourists coming in and out of the shop were watching him.

After all, Harley was pretty and adorable. Although Calvert was wearing a hat and mask, making it hard to see his face, the way he leaned toward the girl looked just like a scene from a movie.

“Alright!” Harley said, after cutting off the tag from the hat.

Calvert shot up, all he could hear was his own heart pounding fiercely.

“Let’s go, we can have a good look around now. What do you feel like doing?” Harley said, naturally taking Calvert’s hand and leading the way.

He followed her steps, staring blankly at her figure. His heart was beating rapidly as if telling him how much he yearned for her!

Calvert and Harley started playing various games at the amusement park.

Since it wasn’t the weekend that day, there were fewer people than usual. However, there was still a queue for some popular activities.

However, Harley was having a blast.

Although she initially just wanted to fulfill Calvert’s birthday wish, once she actually started playing, she realized that she hadn’t relaxed like this in a long time.

As they played, it seemed as if all the worries she’d been carrying around lately were suddenly set free.

When the two of them got off the roller coaster, Harley’s legs were still a bit shaky. After all, it had been a long time since he’d ridden one, and this ride was a bit too thrilling.

Calvert quickly supported her, gently saying, “Be careful.”

“Thank you,” she said. Harley looked at Calvert, his face as composed as ever. She thought back to when they were on the roller coaster earlier. He seemed particularly calm, even when she was screaming in fright, he didn’t seem to scream at all.

“Aren’t you scared?” Harley couldn’t help but ask.

Calvert said curiously, “Why be scared? The chances of an accident are very low, and it’s not like it’s going to kill you. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”

Harley never expected him to respond like this, “Most people would still be scared even if they knew they wouldn’t die. Are you playing this game just to question whether you’ll die or not?”

After all, a normal person didn’t think about life and death just by playing a game. Screaming on a roller coaster was more of a physical instinct, wasn’t it?

Calvert simply said, “I just feel like I won’t die, so I’m not afraid to have fun.”

“Do you find it exciting? Fun?” She asked curiously.

“I don’t find it thrilling, but it’s quite fun.” He feels content because she’s by his side.

“So, what attractions here do you find exciting?” Harley asked. If he didn’t find the roller coaster thrilling, it seemed like there wasn’t much else in this amusement park that could excite him.

“There’s nothing too thrilling,” Calvert said, “but it’s quite fun.”

That was indeed a strange answer, but if he found it amusing, then it was probably worth the trip, right?

“Have you been here before?” she casually asked.

“I’ve been here before,” he said.

“When did you come?”

“It was the day my mother abandoned me,” he said.

Harley abruptly halted, looking at Calvert in surprise.

“What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? For me, it’s all in the past. Even if we talk about it now, I won’t feel so upset anymore,” Calvert said calmly.

“Are you really not upset anymore?” she asked, a bit uneasily.

“Mmm,” he said, “I was once very upset. That day, she dressed me up really nicely and took me to the amusement park. She bought me the toys I wanted and the food I craved. I was truly happy, feeling like

I had the whole world. When I got home, I fell asleep joyfully. But when I woke up, I couldn’t find her anywhere!”

Calvert’s voice was deep as if he was just talking about something very ordinary.

But Harley’s mood began to sink.

“She gave me a beautiful dream, only to show me the harsh reality that follows. It was then that I understood what it means to fall from heaven to hell,” he said.

“I’m sorry for bringing up those memories again,” Harley said, biting her lip.

“You haven’t done anything wrong to me, it’s just…” His voice trailed off, his gaze falling on her face, “I just hope that you won’t give me a beautiful dream only to then plunge me into hell. That would be too painful for me!”

Harley was taken aback. Even though Calvert was wearing a hat and mask, obscuring his expression, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he seemed on the verge of tears.

Her heart became especially heavy.

He was different from her, or rather, this young man was unlike any of the friends she knew.
