Chapter 171 – Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry

I was pushed out of the way so that the doctor and his nurses could work on my mate. Alette and Damian rushed into the room, and Damian fought to drag me away from her. “Let’s let the doc work on her brother. Let’s go meet your baby,” he begged me. I didn’t move until I knew she was going to be alright. “I can’t, not without her, Damian. I won’t,” I managed to say.

It seemed like a lifetime watching them work on my love. My best friend and his wife were holding me up with their support. I never knew weakness like this, but without her, I felt like nothing. Just a shell of a man. Even with the short time I have been with her, I can’t remember my life without her in it.

Tears streamed down my face, as I still prayed to the moon goddess. “Please, Goddess, I can’t do this life without her. Neither can our daughter. Please,” I begged. The line on her monitor started to beep again. When I heard that sweet beeping sound, and heard my mate gasp, I fell to my knees. “Thank you,” I said under my breath.

Dr. Campbell approached me and told me what was happening. “Beta, sir. Your daughter caused a tear in momma when she was getting into position. That is what caused the blood. She bled so much so fast that she was bleeding out. We need to get her some blood replacement, and she should be good as new. My assistant will finish stitching her back together, and hopefully she will be awake soon after. I’m sure she is anxious to see this precious girl,” he explained.

I didn’t shake his hand, but pulled him into a strong hug instead. “Thank you so much Dr. Campbell. I owe you one,” I said. He laughed and told me it was his job, but he was happy things would turn out well for us. He encouraged me to go see my daughter, but I told him the same thing I told my best friends. Not without my mate.

Dr. Campbell left, and I went to where Damian and Alette were. I told him what he said, and Damian showed much more excitement than his mate. Micah’s best friend. She had the look of someone who had just been punched in the gut, but was trying not to show how much they were hurting.

“Alette? You are happy she’s going to be alright, aren’t you?” I asked. She noodled her head and smiled, but tears still fell down her face. I glanced over at Damian, and he was just as baffled as I was.

“Babe, what’s with the tears?” he asked. She shook her head and started sobbing at that point. “I…I’m happy for you both, Buck. Truly. It’s…it’s just.. Luke just messaged me. Grandma Gretchen has passed away,” she sobbed.

Both Damian and I were heartbroken. That old lady made such an impact on every life she touched. In the brief time I have known her, she helped me more than she would have ever realized. Same with Micah. Micah talked fondly of Gretchen often, and would always say how much she appreciated how grandma loved her like she was one of her blood grandchildren. It was only after talking with Gretchen that Micah was able to overcome the fear of being a mother. All of our worlds were going to be very different without her.

“I’m sorry, Lette. This is awful. My heart is with you through this. Yours too, Brother,” I told them.

A nurse came up to us and told me that Micah was finally fully awake. The three of us rushed to her side, and the first thing out of her mouth was, “Lettie, she came to me.” I was rubbing her head and asked “Who came to you, my love?” She closed her eyes and a smile spread across her face. “Grandma Gretchen. She came to me. She gave me a message for all of you from beyond this life. She said to tell Lette, make sure the doctors keep looking, and not to freak out when you figured out what she was talking about. She said she loves you Lette, more than a bear loves honey. Damian, she said, that you are a better man than you give yourself credit for, and that not to constantly second guess yourself. You will be a great father, because you won’t let your children feel unwanted or unloved. Then there was a special message for you, my love. She said, make sure Buck knows that I am very fond of him. He is one of the strongest minds and hearts that she has ever met. She said to quit second guessing everything you do, because deep in your heart you know that you never act without rethinking different options all the time.”

The three of us found our mouths hanging wide open, while the tears fell. We had been throwing around middle names, and I asked Alette Gretchen’s middle name. She started to tell me, but Micah interrupted. “Gretchen gave me a name that she would like the baby to have. She said it would compliment her wolf’s name when she gets older. Honestly, I love it. Her name will be Aisling Brook Thunderhawk. It means; a dream or vision,” she said.

Damian and Alette told her how much they loved it, and she looked to me for approval. “Well?” she asked. I told her I loved it, and if Gretchen made a point to come to her with a name for our child, then that’s what it would be. She seemed pleased, and started to doze off again. I wanted her to rest, so it would be good to see our little girl in a little while. Our little Aisling.

*MICAH POV*

Can the world just stop for a moment? It feels like it’s spinning out of control. Since leaving Alette’s Luna ceremony dinner I have been trying to focus on something other than the pain, but everything has been a blur.

Something doesn’t feel right, and I don’t want to freak anyone out. Alette and Buck are helping me get into a gown, and honestly I feel like I’m about to vomit. There is so much pressure in my lower region that it feels like I am about to split wide open. Contractions are more intense and more frequent, and my mate does his best to help me stand up while my best friend helps me get ready.

Buck is slowly moving me back towards the bed. The next thing I remembered before the darkness was the most excruciating pain ripping through my stomach and back. I can remember screaming his name, and then Grandma Gretchen calling mine.

“It’s alright sweet Micah, don’t be afraid. The little one is in a little distress, and it’s causing your body to turn on you for a short while. I promise all will be well in the end,” she said.
