Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
I was woken by the sound of my mate’s shampoo bottle hitting the floor in the shower, followed by a loud curse word. I jumped out of bed to make sure she was OK, and what I saw made me laugh. I don’t think she was as amused as I was.
She was sitting on the shower floor trying to scoop shampoo back into the bottle. The more she scooped in, the more it flowed out of the bottom. “Sweetheart, the bottom of the bottle is broken. It’s going to keep coming out. Just throw it away and I will have one of the Omega’s bring a new one up for you,” I told her.
She broke down in tears, and I asked why she was crying. She said that she was too clumsy and that she had wasted the shampoo. Yep. Pregnancy hormones have kicked in.
“It’s fine babe, we have a stockpile of shampoo, conditioner, soap, scrubs, masks, all of that beauty stuff. One bottle of used shampoo is not the end of the world, I promise,” I comforted her. At least attempted to.
We have refrained from having food sent up to us since the poisoning incident, but today I might make an exception. It’s her Luna ceremony day, and I don’t want her any more stressed than she is.
“Babe, how about I have our breakfast sent up to us this morning?” I asked her. She shook her head no, and insisted we go down and eat with everyone else. I helped her dress, and we walked down hand in hand.
By the time we got to the dining room, everyone in her family was there, including Gretchen. The look on Alette’s face was priceless. She adored her grandma, and was thankful that she was there. Surrounding Gretchen was Alette’s sisters, and their mates. To our surprise, Adelina’s belly was very swollen.
“Addie? You’re pregnant?” she asked. Adelina nodded her head and told us that they hadn’t told anyone but their parents because she had been having issues with the pregnancy. She was also carrying quads and unfortunately they weren’t sure if one of them was going to make it. After the initial sting that her sister kept the news from her, Alette was happy for her sister.
I shot a look at Asteria, and she threw her hands up and said, “Don’t give me that look, no babies here. I am definitely not ready for that and neither is Simon.” She turned to her mate and they high five each other, letting everyone know they were on the same page. It caused Loki and Liam to burst out laughing, and Mel smacked them both on the arm. She wanted all of her kids to have as many babies as they could. She loved being a grandma.
I took my place next to Miles, and congratulated him on the upcoming babies. He thanked me and we sat for a while getting caught up. I felt like I hadn’t seen them in so long, but in reality it hadn’t been but maybe a month. Once the babies were born, his dad was going to step down as Alpha and hand the pack over to Miles and Addie. I was shocked when Miles admitted that he wasn’t even sure if he wanted the position. Addie didn’t want the responsibility that came along with being Luna, especially now that she would have her hands full. She wanted to be a very hands on mother to her kids. I hoped Alette was going to be like that with our kids.
After breakfast, the women disappeared to help give instructions to the poor event planner. My dad’s mate, Sandra, loved having parties, and the pack kept an event planner on payroll. It’s one thing I didn’t change. Melissa was a kind woman, and she did have a knack for sprucing up the place to look glamorous.
The men decided we were going to go for a run, and get rid of some energy. I was so nervous about this evening that my energy was in overload. I made sure to check with Zion to see if he was up for the run, and his excitement was that of a pup. He asked if we were going to run in full force that we make stops so that he could rest. He was up for the task, but worried he would tire easily.
Everyone agreed, and we decided to run to the quarry. It was beautiful out there, and if we were lucky, we might find some game to hunt.
We all ran outside and shifted mid air and took off towards the forest. None of cared that we had just shredded perfectly good clothing. It felt good to run with the wind in our fur.
Zion ran as fast as the others, and was able to keep up. Maddix linked us to check on us, and I told him we were better than fine. It was the truth. We were better than we ever were. Mind, body and soul.
When we reached the quarry, I heard Miles’ wolf, Ulrich, whimper and lift his nose to the air. The rest of us followed suit and Liam quickly shifted back to human form. “Rogues,” he stated.
Zion nodded his head, and started to run towards the stench. The rest followed behind him, and we eventually came up on two small rogues. They were just kids. Not even able to shift yet.
All of us shifted back to our human forms, and it was Loki who asked where their parents were. The little girl pointed to a woman laying in the leaves. Her throat had been torn out, and her body left there to rot. That was the stench we were smelling. He then asked where their father was and the little boy shrugged his shoulders. They were both visibly scared, and Liam promised they had no reason to fear us.
