Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
Eventually, Damian and Alette joined us. They both seemed to be in better spirits, and announced that they were going to have her Luna ceremony tomorrow. I told them I would help with any arrangements needed, and Riley said the same. Alette told us that mom, aunt Marion and aunt Rebecca were on their way, and Ginger was already there. She wanted Riley and Micah to rest since Riley just had the baby, and Micah could go at any time.
Damian asked me if there would be a chance that grandma would join us, and I told him I was unsure. I sent a text to Luke, and he said that she wanted to be there, and they would be here in the morning. I relayed the information to him, and he asked that I kept it a secret from Lette. He said he wanted it to be a surprise, because Marion told her that grandma wouldn’t make it. I agreed, and the two of us left for the cell house.
“Are you sure this is how you want to go about this?” I asked him. He nodded and said that he couldn’t show mercy on a traitor who tried to kill him. I understood, but felt like Alette did about Ingrid’s wolf. “Damian, can I propose something? I want to you think about it rationally before you answer, please,” I asked. He nodded his head, and asked me to tell him what was on my mind.
“I spoke with my sister about her concerns about Ingrid’s wolf,” I told him. He looked at me as if to say he had no clue what I was talking about, and I informed him of how Alette felt.
“Alette doesn’t feel like you should punish the wolf for the human’s actions. She feels like her wolf didn’t have a hand in what happened, so shouldn’t be punished by being killed with silver,” I explained.
He stopped walking and ran his hands through his hair. “Maddix, I was so angry that I didn’t think of that. How can we know for sure though? I don’t have anyone here who can speak to everyone’s wolves. Most can only communicate with their mates wolves,” he expressed.
“You do have someone, you just apparently have no idea who,” I told him. He furrowed his brows and asked who, and I just flashed a bright smile. “You?” he asked. I nodded my head. “When I lost Franz, and gained Dakota, I discovered that I still had a couple abilities from before, and a few new ones. Grandma believes that it’s just not gifts from the goddess Selene, but also from the Fae goddess Eris. Dakota can speak to any wolf who is willing to let him in. The humans choice doesn’t matter. They can snub up and refuse, but if their wolf is willing, he can speak to them. I also recieved the lie detector gift, and healing. Mom says I need to practice on small things before anything major in the healing department. She made Alette do the same,” I informed him.
“Let’s go talk to her wolf,” he said. Hopefully, Ingrid’s wolf would be willing to speak to Dakota.
Sitting across from the woman who tried to kill my brother in law was hard. You could just see the resentment she had for him all over her face. She hated him, and if he allowed her to live, I’m sure she would find someone else to do her bidding. He had her mate executed last night, and I’m sure she was pissed about that as well.
“Ingrid, Alpha Maddix is here to talk to your wolf. I can’t rightfully in good conscience punish your wolf if she had no part in your insanity. If she is innocent, you will die quickly. If she is not, the original plan stays in place,” he told her.
Her body stiffened, her eyes darting between the two of us. “I refuse to allow this!” she spat. We both just laughed and I informed her that it wasn’t her call. It was her wolf’s choice, not hers. I proceeded to allow Dakota take over, and closed my eyes. I could see him approaching a very small grey wolf. I hadn’t seen a wolf this small in a very long time.
He introduced himself, and the small wolf told him her name was Liza. She then went on to explain that she never agreed with anything Ingrid has ever done. To keep from interferring, Ingrid would microdose herself with Wolfsbane to keep her wolf at bay, so she could do whatever she pleased without hearing her wolf nag her. That would explain her size.
Dakota straight asked her if she had been involved or had agreed to the poisoning of Damian. The little wolf adamantly denied any involvement. She even went as far to saying that Ingrid had dosed herself so that she could follow through, and wanted Damian dead by any means necessary.
Dakota thanked the little wolf, and retreated back to me. We turned to Damian and Dakota said, “Kill the human, the wolf is innocent.”
*Damian POV*
Now that both of the people who tried to kill me were dead, I could rest easier. The constant worry of someone escaping, or recruiting someone to finish the task of killing me was making me and Zion on edge. He is still weak, but getting stronger as each day goes by.
I pull my mate closer to me as I watch her sleep. I am angry at myself still for treating her like I did. She was only worried about me. With everything she has been through in the past couple of months, she still holds strong. She has her weak moments, but when she is done with a situation, she is fully done.
I placed my hand on her belly, and nestled my face into her hair. I quickly found sleep, and it was honestly the most peaceful sleep I had in weeks.
