He was heartbroken for this woman.

Mick’s eyelashes trembled slightly as he gently stroked her pale cheek, “Nancy, I think I might really like you.”

I rushed to the hospital as soon as I heard about her accident because I like her.

My worry for her is also because of my feelings for her.

Time was passing by second by second, but every minute felt like torture for him.

Before Nancy woke up, Mick’s subordinates had already submitted all the information about the car accident to him in writing.

This information was more detailed than what the police and

Mick were previously told.

It even clearly stated when Nancy entered and left the Schultz family, and that Clarissa drove out of the Schultz family five minutes after Nancy left.

As a result of the accident, Clarissa’s car hit Nancy, who fell into a coma. Clarissa was unharmed, so after making a statement at the police station, the Schultz family paid bail and returned home.

“Find a lawyer to invalidate Clarissa’s bail and have her detained,” Mick instructed his subordinates.

Nancy was still lying in the hospital bed, so how could the person who hit her be allowed to be out on bail at home?

Did the accident really happen as Clarissa stated in her statement, that Nancy suddenly ran out? Or was there another reason?

But no matter what, he didn’t want to let the person who hurt her get away with it!

At this moment, he was very clear that he would not allow anyone else to harm this woman!

When Nancy woke up, it was already dark outside, and the hospital room was only lit by a dim yellow light.

What she saw was a strange ceiling and… Mick’s face.

“You…how…” she murmured, but was interrupted by the other person.

“You’re awake. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?” he asked with concern.

“It hurts…” she instinctively said, raising her hand to touch her head.

He quickly held her hand gently. “Don’t scratch. You have bandages on your head. I’ll call the doctor to check on you.”

After speaking, Mick pressed the call button.

After a moment, medical staff came to the ward.

After examining Nancy, the doctor confirmed that there was no major problem, but she could only drink a small amount of water for now. She could only have some liquid food after another 6 hours.

She also had many bruises, abrasions, and sprains on her body, which needed to be treated with medicine every day. It would take some time for her to recover.

After the medical staff left, Mick turned to look at the person.

lying on the bed, only to find her staring at him stupidly.

“What happened in the car accident?” Mick asked.

He just wanted to hear the truth from her own mouth.

Nancy licked her dry lips. “I want to drink some water first.”

“Okay.” He turned to the water dispenser and poured her a glass of warm water.

Nancy instinctively raised her hand to take it.

Mick glanced at her bandaged hand, noticing several other cuts and bruises on her hands.

“Your hand is not convenient, let me feed you water,” he said, offering the cup to her lips.

Nancy was taken aback but didn’t refuse, sipping the water slowly.

Due to her injuries, she drank the water slowly, but Mick didn’t rush her and patiently fed her until she was done.

Finally relieved of her thirst, Nancy asked, “How did you end up here?”

“The police contacted me and I came over,” Mick replied casually.

“You also arranged for this VIP room, thank you,” Nancy said, realizing she wouldn’t have been able to stay in such a room otherwise.

“Can you tell me what happened in the car accident now?”

Mick asked.

Nancy’s face turned pale and her lips trembled as she spoke, “I received a call from the Schultz family to retrieve something of their mother’s. But…we had an argument and I left without taking anything.

Later, as I was leaving, Clarissa drove her car straight at me and I…I passed out.”

As she spoke, her body trembled as if she was scared by the terrible memory.

In the light, she looked so fragile and pitiful that Mick couldn’t help but hold her gently in his arms.

“Don’t be afraid! No one can hurt you now!” he reassured her.

“Really?” she asked tearfully.

“Really, not just now, but no one can hurt you in the future. either,” he said firmly.

Her frightened appearance made him want to immediately crush Clarissa.

Nancy seemed tired and cried herself to sleep.

Mick gently wiped away the tears on her face with his fingers, feeling the heat on his fingertips.

The next day, Nancy was able to eat and Mick specially prepared liquid food for her. He personally fed her three meals a day and even carried her to the bathroom, only leaving after she looked embarrassed.

“Aren’t you going to work?” Nancy couldn’t help but ask as Mick stayed in her hospital room all day.

“What, do you want me to go to work instead of being here.

with you?” he asked in return.

“Of course not!” she answered instinctively.

“Since that’s not the case, then just accept it.” he said.

Nancy felt that Mick’s attitude towards her seemed to have changed, becoming more gentle and caring.

And this was exactly what she had hoped for, wasn’t it?

Just like this car accident, she saw Clarissa driving towards her.

At that time, she had a chance to avoid it. If she ran towards the tree-lined path with more trees on the side, Clarissa’s car might not have hit her.

But… she wanted to take a gamble, so she let the car hit her in the least damaging way possible.

Of course, she was lucky to have only been injured this badly. If luck wasn’t on her side, she could have been critically injured, disabled, or even died!

Nancy slept restlessly in the middle of the night.

Large beads of sweat dripped down his face as he muttered helplessly, “Don’t… Mom… don’t… don’t come near me… Mom, don’t die, please… don’t… don’t die…”

Mick leaned in to check on Nancy, but as soon as he reached out to touch her face, she grabbed his hand tightly.

She held on so tightly that it made his wrist ache.

But what made him even more uneasy was the look of despair on her face, even in her sleep.

“It’s okay, it’s all over now. No one will hurt you again!” Mick comforted Nancy softly as she slept.

But his words seemed to have no effect. She tossed and turned as if she were desperately trying to escape from something.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes wide and grabbed Mick as if he were the last piece of driftwood in a drowning person’s grasp, pressing his body tightly against hers.

Her rapid breathing sounded in his ear, and although he could have pushed her away, he didn’t.

Instead, he hugged her back.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Mick asked softly.

“I… I’m so scared…” Nancy murmured.

“Don’t be afraid. It’s all over now. I promised you that no one will hurt you again,” he reassured her.

“But I’m still scared… scared that I’ll end up like my mother, dying under mysterious circumstances!”

Nancy trembled as she spoke. “When Clarissa was beating me, my mother tried to stop her, but

Clarissa pushed her off the balcony. And even though Clarissa was the killer, the Schultz family managed to make my mother’s death look like an accident. Clarissa didn’t have to take any responsibility at all! What if one day, I die too, and my death is also made to look like an accident? Just like my mother…”

As she spoke, her body shook violently.

Mick’s eyes darkened. “Your mother was pushed off the balcony by Clarissa?”

“Yes, even though Clarissa was the killer, the Schultz family managed to make my mother’s death look like an accident. Clarissa didn’t have to take any responsibility at all!” Nancy hugged Mick even tighter, her voice filled with fear. “What if one day, I die too, and my death is also made to look like an accident? Just like my mother…”-

As the last words faded away, they were drowned out by sobs.

“No! That day will never come,” Mick said, looking down at Nancy’s tear-streaked face. He gently wiped away her tears with his hand and continued, “I won’t let you get hurt for nothing. This time, Clarissa won’t get away!”

“Really?” she asked, her eyes misty with tears.

“I never lie,” Mick replied. “Now, don’t be afraid anymore. Go back to sleep, I’ll be here with you.”

Nancy hesitated for a moment and said, “Can you sleep with me? I mean, just lie down on the bed with me… I didn’t mean anything else, please don’t mind.”

His eyes suddenly became deep and mysterious.

Realizing her words might have been misunderstood, she quickly added, “I mean, just sleeping together on the bed… Please don’t take it the wrong way.”

After speaking, she quickly let go of his hand, lay back on the bed, and covered her head with the blanket, seeming embarrassed to face him.

After a while, she felt a slight depression next to her, as if someone’s weight was pressing down on her.
