This kind of praise was like a word he had heard too much.

But when Nancy said it, he felt it was quite good.

This woman always gives him a sense of novelty and contradiction. At first, he thought she was a very

“cold” person, but later he found out that she blushes easily.

However, just when he thought she was a shy person, sometimes she would behave very boldly.

This kind of contradiction always surrounds her, which makes him even more curious and eager to explore.

Nancy looked at Mick working with his head down, and couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. After all, when she met Mick’s gaze, her heart would beat abnormally fast, and she always felt that his eyes could see through all her thoughts.

But looking at this man in such a straightforward way, she could observe him more carefully.

His facial contours were very distinct, with a high nose bridge, making his face look three-dimensional, which is rare among

Easterners.

Because of his drooping eyelids, his eyelashes appeared prominent.

His sexy thin lips were tinged with a faint rose color… In her mind, a scene of kissing him suddenly flashed by… Ah, it felt so soft.

Thinking of this, she felt her face getting slightly hot again, and quickly shifted her gaze to his hand holding the pen.

His slender and fair fingers holding the pen gave a very aesthetic feeling.

Such hands are definitely a blessing for hand fetishists.

These hands would be attractive when playing the piano or holding a cigarette between the fingers, right?

Just then, the internal phone rang, and the secretary’s voice came from inside, “Mr. Reed, Manager Lanley from the R&D

department wants to see you.”

“Let him in,” Mick said.

Nancy estimated that Mick might have to discuss business with the other party, so she said, “I’ll leave first.”

“No need,” said Mick.

Then, the sound of knocking on the door was heard, and a middle-aged man pushed the door and walked in.

When the other party saw Nancy in the office, he was obviously stunned and hesitated,

“Just say what you need to say,” said Mick.

Manager Lanley’s eyes flashed with surprise, but he didn’t care about Nancy anymore and directly reported the work-related matters.

Nancy listened on the side, and it was about some problems with a new game that was currently being developed.

Nancy also played games herself, and even took a course on game programming for a while, so she understood some of the problems mentioned by Manager Lanley.

Listening to the conversation between Manager Lanley and

Mick about work, Nancy was not bored.

After Manager Lanley finished talking and left the office,

Nancy asked, “Is it okay for me to hear those things just now?”

“Do you think it matters?” Mick asked back.

“Um…the content of your conversation was about an unreleased game, which should be confidential,” Nancy said.

As far as she knew, big companies like Reed Group would try to find out the content of their games in advance, so employees had to sign confidentiality agreements.

However, just now, they were discussing it in front of her as if they had no concerns.

“Yes, it can’t be leaked,” Mick said.

“Aren’t you afraid that I might leak something?” she asked.

“Why should I be afraid?” he casually asked back, “If this information were to be known by the outside world, it’s you who should be afraid. Do you think selling the news about the Reed Group to outsiders will end well for you?”

Nancy shuddered, okay, he was right!

As far as the rumors about the Reed family in Emerald City were concerned, anyone who dared to betray the Reed family would definitely not end well.

“Of course, I won’t leak anything,” Nancy assured stiffly.

“No need to be afraid,” Mick may have noticed her nervousness, stood up and walked over to her, “As long as you don’t cheat me or do anything to betray me, nothing will happen. Even if you get into trouble, I will protect you.”

There are probably not many people in Emerald City who can make Mick say the word “protect.”

If others were to get this promise, they would probably be ecstatic. After all, anyone the Reed family wants to protect can be protected. This is like getting a get-out-of-jail-free card in Emerald City.

But after hearing this, Nancy was more uneasy than relieved.

Betrayal…she shouldn’t do anything to betray Mick, but deception…if one day he found out that her so-

called liking for him was just to use him to help her mother seek justice and bring down the Schultz family, what would he think?

Would that be a betrayal to him?

“What’s wrong, don’t you believe me?” Mick mistook Nancy’s silence for disbelief.

“No, I believe you,” Nancy replied, “It’s just…um, you’re so straightforward in saying you’ll protect me. Aren’t you afraid you said it too early in case I really do something big in the future?”

“Since I said it, there’s nothing to be afraid of,” Mick said, “I said I’ll protect you, so I will.”

“What if in the future…I deceive you, betray you, would you still protect me?” Nancy hesitated and asked.

Mick’s eyes suddenly deepened, “Would you?”

Nancy felt her heart skip a beat, a chill spreading from her spine.

“I asked you, and you’re asking me back…,” she said awkwardly.

Mick’s gaze flickered slightly, “If you do deceive and betray me in the future, I can spare your life, but only once.”

Nancy licked her dry lips, was this like a get-out-of-jail-free card for her?

Even if Mick found out one day that her love for him was a lie, he would still let her go?!

But…if she really fell in love with him before he found out, then it wouldn’t be a lie, right?

As this thought flashed through her mind, she immediately laughed at her own naivety.

Did she really want to fall in love with Mick? If she did, what would become of her?

Mick was only interested in her for the moment, could she really marry into a wealthy family?

And what if she did fall in love with Mick, but he lost interest in her? How would she live the rest of her life?

So the best outcome was to use his current interest in her to bring down the Schultz family and give Clarissa the punishment she deserved, to comfort her mother’s spirit in heaven!

“What are you thinking about?” Mick’s voice rose.

“Ah, I just feel like with you by my side, I could walk sideways through Emerald City,” Nancy said, quickly using vague words to cover up her true feelings.

“If you want to walk sideways, you certainly can,” Mick said. “So, how do you plan on doing it?”

“Ahem!” She almost choked on her own saliva. “I…I was just joking. I don’t really mean it…”

Gurgle!

Suddenly, her stomach made a loud noise.

Nancy stopped talking, feeling embarrassed.

“Hungry?” Mick asked, looking at the time. “It’s about time for dinner. Let’s go.”

L

Nancy picked up her bag from the couch.

Mick noticed that her shoulder bag was much fuller than usual, as if it was stuffed with something.

“What’s in there that’s making it so full?” he asked.

“Oh, it’s a small teddy bear! A colleague from the hotel gave it to me,” Nancy casually mentioned.

“Why did your colleague give you a teddy bear?” Mick asked.

“She accidentally bumped into me earlier, so it’s a gift as an apology,” Nancy explained.

As for whether Irene really did it accidentally or on purpose, Nancy didn’t feel the need to say it in front of Mick.

That night, after Nancy returned home and finished washing up, she casually placed the teddy bear on the dining table cabinet, unable to stop thinking about her conversation with Mick earlier that day.

Right now, Mick is treating her well, but how can she make him more interested in her?

Only when she asks Mick to help her seek justice for her mother, will he agree to it.

In the following days, Nancy still worked at the hotel during the day, and would spend time with Mick after work or on weekends.

Sometimes he would have work to do, and she would quietly play on her phone or games.

If he was in the mood, he would play a game with her.

The games they played gradually shifted from the mobile games she played at the beginning to the new game his company was currently developing.

Because the game has not been released yet, they played it on the company’s internal network.

Nancy even had a special internal network account.

Regarding this, Nancy didn’t know whether Mick really trusted her not to leak the game’s content, or if he thought she didn’t have the guts to do so.

After finishing a game, Nancy stretched her fingers.
