his father asked him after some time.

“Not officially no, I’m not currently allowed near any of them, not until after the restraining order is over.”

He answered

“However.”

He went on quickly, seeing his mother and two sisters go to speak.

“I am allowed to text them and in the past few days Marilyn has allowed the boys to start sending photos through to me. It’s why I think she’s no longer angry and just annoyed with me.

“There was no contact at all up until mid??ovember, when the twins took it upon themselves to message me for the first time, and that was what opened up a line of communication between them and I. Admittedly, Marilyn was unhappy about it for a few days. She, however, hasn’t stopped it and this week. I was sent a picture Marilyn herself took and let the boys send through.”

“So a start.”

His mother sighed.

“The other pictures? Are they living well with Marilyn?”

she asked.

He smiled and accessed the photo album he’d created and put all their photos in, handed her the phone.”

Yes, it’s a start. I will be making amends properly. The boys also from my understanding, live well, always have done so. Marilyn’s amnesia only seemed to wipe Marrin and myself’s lives from her. She woke up knowing she was Marilyn Riddley, an author on the rise. Continued to live that life.”

All eyes were again on him.

“Mm, it appears Marrin was already an author when we divorced. It started while we were married, and she never told me about it. Never told anyone.”

He shook his head.

“I dare say that was due to the contract marriage, so we didn’t share absolutely everything with each other.

“I can only think that she kept that part of her life, just for herself, for after the divorce. A career to fall back on, so to speak,”

he smiled

“And she’s done well for herself, that much I can tell you. Not even the amnesia. stopped that part of her life.”

“When will we get to see her again and meet our grandchildren?”

his mother asked him.

“Likely after the new year I imagine. I’ve not yet told the twins of their extended family. I’m just trying to form a bond with them myself at this point. Until that really happens and trust is built with Marilyn herself, I doubt any of you will get to meet them. It will likely be a few months still. It’s a slow process.”

“Well, you’ve only got yourself to blame on that front,”

Veronica muttered.

“I’m aware, that I am completely at fault from the very beginning, to all the interactions with Marilyn herself, even now.”

Calvin nodded.

“I, however, can’t change the past, so I have to deal with the consequences of my own actions.”

“Marilyn?”

his father asked.

“What are your intentions with the twin’s mother?”

“Initially, it will be to get her to trust me, then to like me as a person, and build up to hopefully having her find a way to agree to date me, with the full view of getting back together once we reconnect and get to know each other. I still love her.”

he sighed softly.

“You love Marrin, you mean,”

Veronica stated flatly.

“Marilyn is not going to be Marrin. You do understand that, right? Her life, if she recalls nothing of the two of you, is going to have been very different. They are unlikely to be the same person due to different experiences.”

“I do understand that,”

he nodded

“And I will be trying to get to know Marilyn. You are correct on that, she is nothing like the Marrin that you all know. That soft, gentle??atured woman that you all liked is not what I see in Marilyn. Who is quite upfront and vocal about how she feels about me and my actions.

“Clearly stated she has no reason to trust me, and doesn’t recall me. Stated point blankly she also doesn’t want to,”

he sighed heavily.

“So I have to get Marilyn to want to know me. On that note, she legally changed her name to Marilyn before her accident, so when you do meet her, please address her as Marilyn. She doesn’t like being referred to as Marrin, that much I do know about her.”

“So you’re being busy for Christmas and all of January?”

Veronica mused.

“You already knew back then, when I was in your office, who she was, yes?”

“Yes, but no interactions at that point. I kind of screwed that up myself and nearly got another restraining order issued from her to me. All my own digging into her, saw it as stalking from a distance, and it didn’t go down so well on her end.”

Again he held up a hand to stop the barrage of comments that he knew were coming.

“I’ve got a meeting on the 20th, to discuss meeting the boys for the first time, maybe seeing them for Christmas. I intend to take all of January off to try and build a proper relationship with the boys and start building one with Marilyn herself.”
