William for me.”
“No problem at all. William came here specifically to comfort Jasper, and I’m grateful,” Grace said.
Meanwhile, on the bed in Jasper’s room, William, who should have been asleep, slowly opened his eyes and looked at Jasper, who was already asleep next to him. His beautiful dark eyes seemed to be thinking about something.
The next day, when Jasper woke up, she found William sleeping next to her and was stunned for a moment.
Although she was still young, she was already aware of the difference between boys and girls. Although she used to sleep with William when she was younger, they had hardly done so in the past three or four years.
“Um…um…” She scratched her head and for a moment didn’t know how to speak, but her face turned slightly red.
William had already woken up by now and looked at Jasper’s embarrassed expression. “Good morning.”
“Good morning!” She quickly replied, blushing. “I’m sorry, I fell asleep hugging you last night.”
William asked in a strange tone, “Why are you saying sorry? Haven’t we often fallen asleep together before?”
“But… but we have grown up now. You are a boy and I am a girl, we cannot sleep together anymore,”
said Jasper.
William paused for a moment and asked, “Don’t you like sleeping with me?”
“No, I didn’t,” Jasper shook her head and said. In fact, she slept quite well last night. It had been a long time since Lawrence disappeared, and she hadn’t slept so well in a while. It felt very comfortable.
“Since there’s no dislike, what’s wrong with it? We’re just sleeping together, like we did when we were kids,” said William. “Anyway, Jasper, no matter when or how old you are, if you want to sleep with me, you don’t have to apologize.”
Jasper looked at William with a dazed expression for a while before asking, “Why?”
“We’re good friends! Jasper is my best friend!” said William, but in his heart, he silently thought –
because she is the most important person to him.
As long as she needs him, he can do whatever she wants him to do, no matter what it is!
After the two children finished washing up and had breakfast, one of them said, “Jasper, didn’t you say that the new amusement park in Emerald City is really fun? I haven’t been there yet. You said you would take me to play together last time, remember?”
Although Jasper didn’t really feel like going to the amusement park, he nodded when he saw William’s hopeful expression and said, “Okay, let’s go to the amusement park.”
She turned her head and looked at Grace, saying, “Mommy, can
“Sure, I’m free today, I’ll take you guys there,” said Grace. Then she caught a glimpse of a triumphant little smile on William’s lips.
She immediately understood that William didn’t really want to go to the amusement park, but rather it was for Jasper. He wanted
Jasper to think about sad things as little as possible, so he suggested going to the amusement park.
Grace went to the amusement park with her two children. Today, there weren’t too many people at the park, which saved them a lot of time waiting in line.
Today, William is more lively than usual. He is often curious and asks Jasper what this and that are. He even makes Jasper his guide, keeping him busy introducing fun places and explaining how to use different facilities. Jasper hardly has any free time.
William and Jasper went shopping together at the amusement park’s stores. They bought some cartoon-themed merchandise such as small aprons, capes, and headbands. William even convinced
Jasper to wear them with him.
After putting them on, the two children looked very cute. Even Grace couldn’t resist taking many photos of them with her phone.
And on Jasper’s face, a smile gradually appeared.
Two children played on many amusement rides.
At noon, Grace went to the restaurant inside the amusement park with her two children to have a meal.
After ordering the meal on her phone, Grace asked her two children to wait for her at the table while she went to pick up the food.
William was flipping through some small brochures that were handed out by others in the amusement park, while asking Jasper, “What else is there to do later? Can you take me to play? I haven’t had enough fun yet.”
“Sure,” Jasper agreed readily, then curiously looked at the small booklets in William’s hands, “What are these?”
“It seems like there are some events organized by the amusement park and some companies outside,”
said William. “Some of these events are happening in the next few days. If there are any fun activities, let’s go together. I rarely get to stay in Emerald City for a whole week.”
William spoke, but did not hear Jasper’s response.
He looked up and saw Jasper holding a flyer, staring at it
On the brochure, there are many cartoon characters holding different instruments and singing and dancing. The bold letters on top say, “A music feast that brings joy to children!”
This is a promotional flyer for a children’s musical.
William glanced at the name of the theater company on the brochure and recognized it as a well-known company that specializes in children’s plays. They have performed in Deer Capital before.
He just wasn’t interested, so he didn’t go see it.
Looking at Jasper’s focused expression, he asked, “Do you want to go see this musical?” The date displayed was the day after tomorrow.
“Um…I want to…” Jasper replied in a low voice.
“If you want to go, then let’s go together. I also want to see the musical!” William said.
But suddenly, Jasper’s eyes turned red. “Before, I told Lawrence that we would go see this musical together!”
Now, the musical is finally starting in Emerald City the day after tomorrow, but Lawrence is nowhere to be found.
William’s eyes dimmed. So this was their promise, he realized.
He felt a sour and uncomfortable feeling in his heart that he couldn’t quite describe.
At this moment, he didn’t realize that he was actually jealous!
He was jealous of Lawrence, jealous that Lawrence could have such an impact on her emotions.
“Tomorrow, I’ll go with you to see the musical. Let’s say it’s for Lawrence, so if you find him later, you can tell him what the musical was about,” said William.
He didn’t want the musical to become a regret in her heart.
Since she had promised to go see it with Lawrence before, he could replace Lawrence and accompany her to see it!
Just then, Grace returned to their seats with the food and saw her daughter’s red eyes. She was a bit puzzled and asked, “What happened?”
After all, it was impossible for the two children to quarrel. Basically, William would always give in to
Jasper. Even if Jasper was being unreasonable, William would probably unconditionally support her and not get angry with her.
So Grace was very puzzled. She had only left for a while, so what could have happened?
Jasper didn’t say anything, but William said, “I want to go see the musical with Jasper, but I don’t know if she wants to.”
“The musical?” Grace was stunned for a moment, then she saw the flyer for the musical in her daughter’s hand.
Then she suddenly remembered that two months ago, when her daughter and Lawrence were still on good terms, they had indeed mentioned that they wanted to go see a musical together.
Because the tickets were difficult to purchase, the daughter specifically asked for her help in buying them.
Later on, the topic of buying tickets was never brought up again because of the conflict that arose between the daughter and
Lawrence.
Right now, Grace said to her daughter, “Jasper, do you want to go see a musical with William?”
“I…” Jasper hesitated for a moment and whispered, “I don’t think we can buy tickets now.”
“If you want to go with William, Mommy will take care of the tickets,” said Grace.
“Jasper, would you like to come with me to see it?” William asked earnestly.
Jasper looked at William for a while and finally nodded, “Okay…
let’s go together to see it.”
William smiled, and Grace gently touched their daughter’s head. “Mommy will go buy tickets, and we’ll all go see a musical together the day after tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Jasper responded.
She will go to see it the day after tomorrow, take notes, and when she finds Lawrence later, she can tell him all about the musical.
And she had a lot, a lot of things she wanted to say to Lawrence.
She wants to say to him – I’m sorry!
If only she hadn’t argued with him back then, and if only she had answered his call at that time.
He lost his family, but she will treat him like family from now on!
In the evening, Jason asked Grace in their room, “Is Jasper going to see the musical with William?”
“Yeah, originally she planned to go see that musical with
Lawrence. I don’t think William is very interested in that musical, but he acted interested just for Jasper’s sake,” said Grace.
Although William tries hard to show his interest in musicals and really wants to go see them, he is only a 10-year-old child after all. Sometimes he can come across as too deliberate, and he hasn’t yet learned how to completely hide his thoughts.
In addition, Grace being a lawyer and having met all kinds of people, she can naturally see through
William’s intentions.
It is precisely because of this observation that one naturally understands the child’s intentions towards
Jasper even more clearly.
Thinking about the jokes she and her husband used to make, Grace really feels that if the two children can really fall in love in the future, having a husband like William who treats her well is also a blessing for Jasper.
“That’s fine, how about the day after tomorrow? I’ll accompany you guys since I’m free anyway,” said
Jason.
“Okay,” Grace responded. “When do you think Jasper can start to lessen the shadow of the Abbott family situation?”
Although Grace never gave up on searching for Lawrence’s whereabouts, deep down she knew the chances of finding him again were very slim.
