“Zane,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “Please call Zane.”

Nathan frowned, pushing open the doors of the cafeteria.

“Why, Chris? What’s wrong?”

“Just call him, please,” I begged as he seated me down on a chair, kneeling before me.

“Okay, I’m calling him. Calm down. Breathe.”

I couldn’t. I couldn’t calm down, and breathing felt like a chore. My chest was tight. My gaze fixed on the door of the cafeteria, afraid Blake would walk in any second. The image of his red eyes floated in my memory. I balled my fists on my lap, shivering.

Nathan fished out his phone from his pocket, his face full of deep concern. He dialed a number and placed the phone on his ear.

There was passion. There was hunger. A thirst-like he’d craved this for years.

Maybe I was projecting my own onto him. I didn’t know. I didn’t care.

But it was finally happening.

“What happe-“

Zane’s voice.

What was his problem?

Why was he interrupting?

Nathan broke the kiss, and I held back a frustrated groan.

I opened my eyes, all my senses numb as he turned to Zane and said. something.

Zane and Lia were standing behind him, staring down at us.

Lia’s lips were pursed, excitement in her eyes.

Zane looked confused.

Nathan glanced at me again.

He was so beautiful.

“Christine?” he said, cupping my cheek again.

I leaned into his touch.

His jaw ticked. “Where?”

Nathan frowned at me, but I didn’t look at him.

“Outside the washroom.”

He stormed out of the cafeteria at once.

Lia stepped after him, but stopped and turned to me. She knelt beside Nathan, taking my hands in hers.

“Are you okay?” she asked. “Did he do anything?”

I shook my head.

“Are you sure he was there?” Her jaw clenched too.

“I think so,” I replied honestly.

“Don’t worry. I’m right here, alright? He won’t touch you ever again. I promise.” She pulled me into a hug, and I buried my face in her shoulder, closing my eyes. Lia rubbed my back, and Nathan rubbed my arm in reassurance.

He was going to have questions.

But I would figure it out.

She pulled away after a short moment, but stayed on the ground in front of me, holding my hands. She stared at the door, waiting, watching. Zane returned, and shook his head at me.

Pr?teased a breath of relief. Blake was gone.

-LIA’S POV-

We went to a somewhat secluded corner, where others wouldn’t hear us.

“What do you mean you saw him?” Zane asked, glaring at me.

I flinched at his tone.

He looked away. “I’m sorry, love, but this is about your safety. After what he did, how can you-“

“He’s not my mate anymore.”

Zane frowned, meeting my gaze again. “What?”

“He’s not my mate anymore,” I repeated, slower.

“What are you talking about?”

“You told me that when the Goddess decides that two people aren’t meant to be, the bond breaks. That’s what happened to us,” I explained. “I am her daughter, Zane. You really think Selene will let her daughter be mated to someone who forced a mark on her?”

“I… I thought you were supposed to choose yourself,” he said.

“And I did. Over and over again. When my body shut down after he marked me, that was me choosing you.” I pushed my hair away from my shoulder. “Here. See the mark.”

Zane stared at me, hesitating. Then he stepped closer, his fingers brushing down the back of my neck, sending shivers down my body. I leaned into his touch, staring at him. His blue eyes narrowed sightly, and he moved in to take a closer look.

“It’s different,” he whispered, tracing his knuckles over it. Electricity rushed through me, and I grabbed onto his free hand to stay steady.

Zane’s eyes glinted with amusement. “Sorry.”

I smiled back. “Idiot.”

“So you’re telling me, he is out of our lives? For good?”

I shrugged, “Yeah. He has no reason to be here anymore. I told him I’d kill him if I see him again.”

“And he was scared?”

I smirked. “He knows what I am. And I showed him.”

“Showed him what?”

“My eyes turned purple and my hair went silver.”

Zane frowned. “What? Really?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I was so mad. It just happened. There was like a heat in my eyes, and then Blake freaked out really bad, so I glanced in the mirror. I looked like… well, a Goddess’s daughter.”

Zane stared at me for a while, as if trying to gauge whether I was telling the truth.

“That’s… incredible, Lia,” he said softly. “Can you show me?”

I pursed my lips. “I don’t know how. It just happened that day. I’m telling the truth, Zane.”

“I believe you,” he said immediately. “I’m not doubting it happened. I just really want to see it.”

“I want to show you too, but I don’t know how to.”

“That’s okay, love.” He gave a nod. “Would you be open to training?”

“Training?”

“The way freshly turned werewolves do. At my pack house. I could teach you how to harness your power. How to turn at

Chapter will.”

“I could do that?” I asked. “Turn into a full wolf?”

“I think so,” he replied. “I don’t see a reason you couldn’t.”
