My heart broke. I towered over her, so I bent down to her level. I looked dead into her eyes and told her that I didn’t care she was pregnant. I would raise it as if it were my own if that is what she wanted. I just wanted her. I wasn’t going to reject her, and I hoped she wouldn’t reject me. All I wanted was a chance to prove to her what love could be.
I had never imagined myself with a mate. I had always felt like a loner and only intermingled with people when I had to. When Damian asked me to become his Beta, I already knew I would say yes. I had promised him for years if he couldn’t depend on anyone else, I would do it. Little did I know that agreeing to taking the position would lead me to a whole new way of life.
Surprisingly, after I told her that I just wanted a chance, she clung onto me tightly. I just held her closely until we were interrupted by Alpha Maddix. “Buck, Micah, can we go somewhere more private and talk?” he asked. We both agreed and followed him to the common room.
He just wanted to explain to me why Micah was so hesitant to trust men. He explained what he could about the ordeal she went through, and did his best to explain my situation to her. It gave us both a little more understanding. My mate softened her demeanor, and agreed to give me a chance.
She said we would discuss the baby’s situation in private a little later. She still wasn’t sure if she could raise her rapist’s child. I told her I would stand by her, and asked if she would stay with me in the pack house while she was there. If she chose to just stay, we would move her things into the cabin. She agreed, and Maddix asked if we wanted to rejoin the others. We agreed and followed his lead.
Micah went and sat next to Alette, and I leaned against the wall close to her. We all made small talk, and it made me feel good to see our Luna actually laughing. We agreed that after dinner we would play some board games, and just enjoy the company of each other. It definitely felt like a family, more than a pack gathering.
I sat next to my mate during dinner, and I felt her place her hand on my knee. She gave me a bashful smile, and whispered, “I’ll move it if you want me to.” I shook my head and took her hand to my lips. I kissed her knuckles, and placed her hand back where she had put it.
“Are you having fun?” I asked her. She nodded her head and said, “Yes. It feels good to be with all of these crazies again. We always have a fun time. I am getting tired though.” I excused myself from her, and went to speak with Damian and Maddix.
“Congrats on your baby, Maddix. I hope you have a healthy little one who is just like you,” I told him. I heard one of his dads laugh behind me and say, “The world should wish for kids like Maddix was. He was a great baby.” Maddix shook his head and thanked me. I rubbed the back of my neck, and said, “Guys, I’m nervous about sleeping with my mate. What if she wants sex? Is it safe for as far along as she is?”
Maddix couldn’t contain his laughter, and Damian looked confused. “Don’t ask me, I don’t think I have ever been around any other pregnant women,” Damian said. Maddix assured me that as long as I wasn’t rough, it would be fine. Just go by her actions.
My nerves seemed to subside, and I returned to my mate. I asked if she would like to turn in for the night, and she nodded her head. We said goodnight, and went up to our room.
Her bags were already placed in the room, and she went to put her bag on the bed. I took it from her and carried it for her. She took her nightshirt, and went into the bathroom to change. I went into my closet and found a pair of basketball shorts and slipped them on.
When I returned to the room, she was already sitting on the bed. She gasped when she saw me, and I felt self-conscious. “Is something wrong?” I asked her. She shook her head and said, “No, not at all. In fact, everything is very right. You look amazing.”
I smiled, and thanked her. “Micah, it is you that look amazing. You are beautiful. Thank you for giving this big oaf a chance,” I replied.
The rest of the night was perfect. We didn’t do anything but hold one another and talk. I learned so much about her, and we even talked about the baby. I explained again that I wasn’t against her keeping it. I would be beyond happy to raise it, and I meant it. Before she passed out, she whispered “Thank you” into my chest.
There was nothing she needed to thank me for. I would move hell’s fire to make her happy.
*MADDIX POV*
Today is the BBQ, and all our family is here. Alette seemed to be in good spirits, and she started her sessions with Peter earlier that morning. From the reports to mom, it went really well. Mom wasn’t supposed to tell us what was said, but mom did speak to me about it. She felt that, as Alpha and her brother, I should be aware.
