At that time, the old Mr. Hart and the old Mrs. Hart thought that the child was only speaking like this in front of their own family, and would not do anything in front of Valda.

However, it seems that we were thinking too optimistically.

“So, get out of here!” Brian looked at Lexi again and spoke in a cold tone, making it clear that there was no room for argument.

Lexi’s face was pale and she looked at old Mr. Hart and old Mrs.

Hart with pleading eyes. “Uncle and Aunt, I really just said a few words casually. I only mentioned that Miss Theller did a good job saving Grace’s child. I didn’t say much else. I don’t understand why Brian got angry.”

At this point, Lexi is still trying to argue and make excuses.

When Lexi mentioned the name Grace, both Mr. and Mrs. Hart’s expressions changed.

Mr. Hart has been in the business world for many years, while Mrs.

Hart has been the head of the household for just as long. It’s likely that they can both guess what Lexi said, and their expressions turned unpleasant as a result.

The fact that their son couldn’t win Grace’s heart for so many years has been a constant worry for the Hart family. Now that their son has finally fallen in love with Valda, they fear that any further complications could delay his marriage and starting a family for who knows how long.

Mrs. Hart immediately spoke up, “Sister, you better take your Lexi home. I don’t think Lexi should come here again in the future.”

Auntie Sandy was shocked to hear this and said, “Big sister, what do you mean?”

“Alright, show them out,” Mrs. Hart ordered the servant standing nearby.

The servant immediately walked up to Auntie Sandy’s family and gestured to show them out, saying,

“Please.”

“Big sister, we’ve been relatives for so many years. Lexi just said a few words to an outsider. Do you really…”

“Outsider?” Mrs. Hart said coldly, “Valda is my future daughter-in-law, not an outsider. And in the future,

Valda will be the mistress of the Hart family. Since your daughter Lexi doesn’t know how to respect

Valda, there’s no need for her to come here again! You can leave now. You can come back in the future, but your daughter is not welcome! Show them out!”

Mrs. Hart shouted “show them out” for the second time. Auntie

Sandy realized that they were in the wrong and could only grit her teeth and leave with her daughter.

The other relatives in the room understood the Hart family’s importance of Valda and became even more enthusiastic towards her.

Brian looked down at Valda and hesitated, “No matter what Lexi said earlier, don’t take it to heart, okay?”

“Okay,” Valda readily agreed.

But her straightforwardness instead caused a hint of worry to rise in his eyes.

At that moment, the elderly Mrs. Hart approached and said,

“Valda, come here, I want to talk to you for a moment.”

Valda decided to go to the old Mrs. Hart’s place, but Brian grabbed her hand and stopped her from moving forward.

Valda hadn’t even had a chance to speak when the elderly Mrs.

Hart beat her to it. “What’s the matter, are you afraid I’ll eat Valda?

I’m just having a chat with my future daughter-in-law, I promise to return her to you in one piece.”

“Mum.” Brian furrowed his brow slightly and looked deeply at his mother, afraid that she might say something unpleasant to Valda about him being there.

“Okay, I understand. I’ll be just as precious as Valda to you,” said

Mrs. Hart. “Now, please let go. Do you want Valda and me to stay here with you forever?”

Brian reluctantly let go of his hand.

Valda followed the old Mrs. Hart to the backyard of the Hart family. The old Mrs. Hart turned around and looked at Valda kindly, saying, “Earlier, our relatives caused you some trouble.”

“Not much,” Valda quickly replied.

“Valda, you were chosen by Brian, which means you were also chosen by the Hart family, including me and Brian’s father. If you have any grievances, you can talk to us,” said the old Mrs. Hart.

Her voice paused for a moment, as if she was sighing. “Brian loves you very much. I actually thought he didn’t love you that much, but during the year you were missing, I completely understood how much he loves you. I think if you hadn’t returned to Emerald

City, he would have remained unmarried for the rest of his life for you.”

Mrs. Hart, the elderly woman, spoke and walked up to Valda, patting her shoulder. “You’ve had a tough year, and I feel sorry for you. But during this time, Brian has suffered greatly for you.

Valda, as a mother, I only hope that no matter what happens in the future, you and Brian will stay together. If any difficulties arise, our family will work together to solve them. Do you understand?”

Our family…these words also include Valda.

Valda’s eyes became moist.

After her parents passed away, she lost her family. Even though her uncle adopted her, she could never truly become a part of his family.

Does she have a home now?

“Okay,” Valda responded, “I will be with Brian and stay with him forever and ever…”

This is her promise!

She once lost her home, but in the future, she will have a home again, a warm and cozy one!

“Good child,” said Mrs. Hart as she took a step forward and hugged Valda. “From now on, you are not only my daughter-in-law, but also my daughter. If Brian ever mistreats you, you must tell me, okay?”

Valda smiled, feeling the genuine kindness of old Mrs. Hart. “I believe he won’t mistreat me.”

Because she knew how much that man loved her.

After leaving the Hart family, Valda sat in the passenger seat and watched the scenery recede along the way, thinking about everything that had happened at the

Hart family today.

Old Mr. and Mrs. Hart, along with Brian, were told by Lexi to never come back to the Hart family again because of the things she said. This effectively severed their familial relationship.

Is it making a mountain out of a molehill? Actually, they are doing to protect her!

This warmth made her feel heavy in her chest!

Brian looked at Valda sitting silently in the car, and a hint of sadness flickered in his phoenix-like eyes.

The car arrived at the Hart family’s mansion. The two got out of the car and walked into the mansion.

“Is there anything you want to tell me?” Brian asked.

Valda turned to him with a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”

“Like, did my mother talk to you about anything today?” he asked.

“She just told me to always be with you no matter what happens,”

she confessed.

“Really?” he said.

“Of course it’s true,” she said. “Do you think your mother would say anything bad about me? If she did, she wouldn’t have helped me establish my authority in front of those relatives today. Brian, I really like your parents.”

His worries were somewhat relieved. “What about me?”

“I love you,” she said.

He looked slightly moved. “So tell me honestly, are you mad at me today?”

She looked surprised. “Why would I be mad at you?”

“Because… Grace,” he hesitated for a moment, before finally uttering the name.

Grace is someone he used to love, but now he’s afraid she might become an obstacle between them.

He’s afraid Valda might misunderstand and think he doesn’t love her enough.

So when Lexi said something to Valda today about saving Grace’s child or something like that, he felt a sudden panic.

Lexi knows exactly how to stir up trouble, he can almost predict it.

Once, Valda struggled to believe that he truly loved her, wanted to marry her, and that saving Grace’s child had nothing to do with it.

But now, Lexi’s words could potentially stir up a lot of emotions in

Valda.

“Valda, I love you and want to marry you. It has nothing to do with

Grace,” he said hesitantly. “Even though…at first, I started dating you because of Grace, but later on, it wasn’t about her anymore. I truly fell in love with you.”

She blinked her eyes and looked at him as he hurriedly explained.

Is he worried and scared again? Is he afraid that she might misunderstand something?

“Valda, no matter what Lexi said today or what others may say in the future, just trust me, okay? Trust only what I say!” He continued anxiously, “Trust only my words, trust that I love you!”

Valda lifted her hand and gently stroked Brian’s cheek. His cheek felt cold, and the contrast with the warmth of her hand was striking.

“Your face is so cold,” she murmured. Despite the comfortable temperature, it shouldn’t be this cold. Or maybe… is it because of his concern for her?

His body trembled slightly, his thin lips pursed, and the gaze in his phoenix eyes revealed a sense of urgency as Grace waited eagerly for her answer.

The eyes are filled with an incredibly complex mix of urgency, fear, longing, and worry.

How could she still doubt his love for her when he was a man like this? Was it just out of sympathy, pity, or a desire to repay her for saving Grace’s child?

Valda held Brian’s face and stood on her tiptoes to kiss his lips. “I trust you, I trust that you love me! So,

Brian, you don’t need to worry about me misunderstanding anything. Even though I used to be insecure, not very confident, and doubted your feelings, now…I don’t anymore.”

Yes, there is no doubt about his love for her!
