“A day to buy a house?” Valda was surprised for a moment, then realized, “You want to pay for the house in full for me?”
“Not pay for it, since we’ve decided to get married, what’s mine is naturally yours. I’m just buying us a house,” he corrected her.
When he said the word “us,” Valda felt a warm feeling in her heart.
“But… even so, I still need to do leg rehabilitation. Although… it will make it a little easier to walk later on… so… can we get married in a year, please?”
Even if her leg was still lame by then, she still hoped to improve and become a beautiful bride.
As she spoke, her voice became quieter and quieter.
He stared at her for a while, then suddenly hugged her tightly,
“Okay, we’ll agree to get married in a year, Valda. A year is my maximum limit, can’t we wait any longer?”
A year was his limit of patience.
He wanted her to marry him sooner, to become Mrs. Hart, and to bring her further under his wing.
“Okay, just one year,” Valda replied.
A year later, she thought, she would definitely be very happy, happily married to him…
Amber was in the apartment, checking the time. It was almost time for George to bring Simon back.
Sure enough, the doorbell rang shortly after, but when she opened the door, she saw George carrying Simon on his shoulder, fast asleep.
“The child played too much today and fell asleep,” George said.
Amber pursed her lips, wanting to wake her son up.
“Don’t wake him up. Let him sleep a little longer. Where is his room? I’ll put him in bed and let him continue sleeping,” George said.
Amber hesitated. She really didn’t want George to step into her living space, but looking at Simon’s sleeping face, she finally said,
“Follow me.”
George carried Simon on his back and entered the apartment, arriving at the room that Amber had prepared for her son.
The room is not very big, at least much smaller than Simon’s room in the Gregory family’s house.
However, despite being small, it is very cozy and you can tell that
Amber has put a lot of effort into decorating it with care.
George carefully placed his son on the bed.
SimonGrace is still fast asleep and hasn’t woken up yet.
Amber approached and took off the child’s shoes, then covered her son with a small blanket. She then turned to George and said, “Okay, Mr. Gregory, you have returned the child, you can leave now.”
The cold tone and the distant expression made George’s heart sting.
“Amber, no matter what, I am still Simon’s father. Do you have to be so cold towards me?” George said.
“What kind of attitude should I have towards you then, Mr. Gregory?” Amber asked in response, her cold gaze making George feel even more pained in his heart.
“I…I just hope that our relationship can improve a bit, so it will be better for the children,” he said with a slightly hoarse voice.
Under her gaze, he felt a sense of embarrassment at the moment.
It’s as if she could see right through his thoughts and intentions.
Is it really just for the sake of the child? He knows deep down that it’s not just about the child. He just doesn’t want her to be so cold towards him and wants to be close to her again.
“I thought that our current relationship was the result of me trying to ease things,” said Amber coldly.
“George, if it weren’t for Simon,
I wouldn’t even want to look at you again.”
Every time she sees him, it only makes her feel more foolish and silly about her past actions.
Why choose to love George, a man full of suspicion and jealousy, who even though claims to love her, abandoned her when she needed him the most, instead of loving a good man like Herman?
“Do I make you hate me like this?” George approached Amber and said, “I know I made a lot of mistakes before, but I’ve been trying my best to make up for them. Amber, for the sake of our child, won’t you give me a chance?”
“Do you really think it’s worth saying something like that now?”
Amber dodged and said, “Simon is still sleeping, and I don’t want to argue with you here and wake up the child.”
After she finished speaking, she walked straight out of Simon’s room.
George followed Amber outside, but when Amber reached the apartment door and was about to open it to let George leave, he suddenly grabbed her hand that was about to open the door.
“Can you give me a chance? Just one chance! Even if it’s just for the sake of our child!” He stared at her intensely, his eyes filled with pleading.
Once, he thought that in this lifetime, he would never again ask for anyone’s help.
But now, he’s begging again!
All he asks for is another chance from the woman he loves the most in his life.
“George, I am now Herman’s wife. Don’t you think it’s rude to say such things to me?” Amber said sternly, trying hard to pull her hand back.
His five fingers were tightly clasping her hand, refusing to loosen even a bit.
“Is this about Herman? He’s already dead. Besides, his so-called wife has no legal support. Are you really planning to be a widow for a dead man?”
“Dead?” Amber suddenly sneered, “Maybe he’s dead to you, but to me, he’s still alive, always living in my heart. As long as I believe that I am his wife, then I am his wife!”
Suddenly, George felt a chill run through his body. As she spoke those words, her gaze was fixed on him, but it felt as if she was looking at a lifeless body.
Herman is dead, but for her, he is still alive!
And though he is alive, for her, it is as if he is already dead!
“But you used to love me, didn’t you?” he growled, his voice filled with so much resentment!
Yes, it’s true that you were the one I loved before, but just because I loved you doesn’t mean that things can’t change. Some love can grow from nothing, while others can fade away from something.
“So even if it’s gone now, it can come back again! Amber, I can definitely make you fall in love with me again! You are Simon’s mother, and originally, you should have been my wife!” He said urgently.
She suddenly laughed, laughing so hard that tears were about to come out. “George, you said you want me to fall in love with you again? Impossible, it will never happen!”
“Why is it impossible? I can make up for it, I’ll do everything in my power to make it up to you!” He frowned, her smile only made him more uneasy.
She raised the other hand that he didn’t catch. At this moment, that hand wasn’t wearing a glove, and the empty ring finger looked so heart-wrenching.
“It’s like my chopped off finger that can never grow back, I can never fall in love with you again!” She said it with such firmness and determination, and looking at him, her gaze was resolute.
The color drained from his face in an instant, leaving him incredibly pale.
Her fingers… it’s because of him!
Because he made the mistake of believing Louise Mitchell years ago, he let jealousy consume his rationality, and allowed her to suffer in a mental hospital without trying to save her!
All of this is because of him!
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…” His lips trembled slightly as he kept apologizing.
But her gaze remained cold and indifferent.
“So from now on, I hope you won’t say these meaningless words to me again. I am Simon’s mother, but I will never be your wife!
Please leave, you are not welcome here!” She gave him an ultimatum.
“Even for Simon’s sake, don’t you…”
self. I
“I don’t want to lose myself for Simon!” Amber said, “As a mother,
I can sacrifice a lot for my child, but not my marriage and my hope you won’t step into my room again in the future!”
George let go of her hand in a daze, and he became extremely despondent. Even his eyes lost their luster.
Perhaps… he had already lost her completely.
As early as the day when he decided to let her stay in the mental hospital and not ask about her, he had already lost her!
“You’re going to marry Brian?” Camille looked shocked as she visited Valda’s apartment after work and received such explosive news from her friend.
“Mm-hmm.” Valda blushed and stammered, “But… not right away, it’s a year later, a year later for the wedding. I want to use this year to buy a good house, bring my godmother over, and then rehabilitate my legs well, hoping to improve my walking a bit.
Camille looked at her friend, then at the busy figure in the kitchen, “How did you come to this decision?”
“Just… talked to Amber for a bit, and then I happened to have a minor collision while taking a taxi. I was calling Brian at the time, and my phone fell and went black. Brian couldn’t reach me on my phone, so he rushed over to find me. When he hugged me, I suddenly came to my senses.” Valda replied.
It was as if all the entanglements were being unraveled in that moment. She knew she didn’t want to miss this man and regret it in the future!
Even though she and him might face many difficulties together, and many people might ridicule and mock them, she still wanted to try her best to face them.
“It’s really…” Camille laughed, “If I had known, I should have let Amber persuade you earlier. If I see her next time, I really should thank her, otherwise you wouldn’t know how long you would be stuck in this dead end.”
Valda felt a bit embarrassed as she touched her nose.
Camille said seriously, “Valda, no matter what, you deserve to be happy. If you have any difficulties or troubles, even if I can’t solve them, you must tell me. Don’t bear them alone.”
Valda looked at her friend. Camille had been with her through the darkest times since college.
“Camille, thank you,” she said, her eyes turning red.
“What are you thanking me for? It’s awkward to hear you say thank you,” Camille said, looking at her friend’s red eyes. “Okay, don’t cry anymore. If Brian sees you like this, he’ll think I bullied you.”
“He won’t think that. He knows you’re my best friend!” Valda said, then raised her hand and hugged Camille. “Camille, I will be happy, I will definitely be very happy. I am also prepared to face difficulties. Sometimes, difficulties and hardships may be God’s way of making people cherish happiness more.”
When Brian walked out of the kitchen, he saw Valda and
Camille hugging each other. When they heard him coming, they separated, and he saw that her eyes were red.
