“Luna, you can scream at me all you want. I’m not leaving you. I hope you understand, that even though you are feeling lost and alone, you have so many people here to love you so that you aren’t ever alone again. All you have to do is allow it in, and you will feel that safety and comfort,” he told her. He plopped down beside her and just sat with her. I noticed that she leaned her head against his shoulder, and actually allowed herself to cry. She must have dozed off that way, because when the door flung open, she jumped out of her sleep.

“Luna, Gamma, I apologize. I didn’t mean to startle you. We have patched him up the best we could and the bleeding has stopped. We are now facing an issue with the hospital not having enough of his blood type to give him blood,” the doctor said. I walked over to where they were and volunteered to have my blood tested. As did others sitting in the waiting room. My mom, however, was reluctant for me or the girls to donate our blood.

“Mads, any of us who carry Fae blood, need to be careful who we donate to. It’s possible to pass traces of our magic through our blood. I think Damian is an honorable man, but how much does he truly know about us?” she asked. She had a point, but I was still going to donate if I could.

Alette overheard our conversation, and lost her shit. “He is your family now, mother. Would you say the same thing if it were Riley, Lindy, Miles or Simon? What if that was either of our dads? Have you given them your blood before? Or are you just being a hypocritical bitch?” she sneered. I tried to calm her down, and she didn’t budge. She hurt my mother with her words so deeply that mom left the hospital.

Our dad Liam left after her, and dad Loki said, “Alette Lily, that was uncalled-for. You didn’t let her explain before you mouthed off. Fae blood can hurt another species if their inner being rejects it. It is certain death. She isn’t worried about him receiving any of YOUR powers. It’s HIM she is worried about, and your magic hurting him. I understand the duress you have been in, but treating your mother like trash will never happen again. Do I make myself clear?”

She didn’t answer him, so I took her arm and we followed the doctor. About 11 of us tested, and 5 of us were a capable match. Alette included. We each gave blood and the doctor went back to work on Damian.

Alette walked away from us and straight to mom. Still not speaking, she just pulled my mom into an embrace and cried into her shoulder.

*Maddix POV*

“Mom?” I called out to my mother. She looked up from my sister, and stared at me. She slightly shook her head and rested her head back onto Alette’s. Deflated, I turned to walk away. Asteria approached me and took my arm. “It’s OK big brother. Let them deal with this in their own way. Lette isn’t alright in her head and her emotions are the epitome of a train wreck.

I chuckled at her statement, and walked with her to the cafeteria. I thought we could all use some drinks, so I loaded up on some coffees, water and sodas. When we got back to the waiting room, Buck had joined us. He stood to help me and Asteria with the drinks, and a low growl came from Simon.

Buck laughed him off, and said, “Calm down little guy, I have no interest in your mate. I’m just helping her.” Asteria looked as if she took offense, but shook it off. He was just trying to calm Simon down. “Alpha Maddix, may I speak to you in private please?” he asked.

We walked to another part of the waiting room, and Buck started to speak. “What do I do if I don’t trust someone who is supposed to be working closely with Damian? Like really close?” he asked. I studied his face, and for the short time I had known Buck, I saw a seriousness that told me there was something up.

“Can you tell me who? I think that would make all the difference,” I asked. “It’s his brother, Lance. He has been very sneaky the last couple of times he has been here this past month. I think he was working with the Issac brothers. I’ve run him out of Damian’s office several times just this past week,” he explains.

It clicked about what he meant when he mentioned Lance. Lance thought his dad’s business dealings were something they weren’t, or at least that’s what he said. What if he was in on the whole scheme of things?

“Buck, I know this is a sensitive time, but I think we need to speak with my sister and some of the other girls who were at Ross Lake. See if maybe they saw Lance creeping around. We know that he idolized Josh, and Josh was Lawrence’s right hand in the kidnapping of young girls. I think it’s worth a shot,” I said.

Buck agreed, but asked if we could wait a day or two, so he could rest. He said his wolf was healing him pretty well, but with him being so big, he tired easily. I had to laugh, but he didn’t find it humorous. “Laugh it up Alpha, a large, cranky indigenous wolf, is a dangerous weapon,” he said, and started to laugh too. I really liked Buck. He and Alette are going to get along great.

It was about 3 hours before the doctor came back in to give us any information. “Luna?” he called. Alette stood up and moved towards him. I joined her and wrapped my arm over her shoulder. “He is awake, and asking for you, Beta Buck and Alpha Maddix. He wants to see you first though,” he informed us.

Before we could move towards the room, Lance, his brother jumped up and protested. “He is my brother, I should be able to see him first.” Buck turned around and got into his face and said, “Sit down you little piss ant and show some respect. She is his mate, soon to be your Luna. She goes first, and if or when he asks to see you, then you can go in. Now, shut the hell up!”
